All discussion of the candidates, updates and results should go here

For example- here's a video of Ted Cruz vying for world domination.

Also Hilary Clinton is a crook and nobody should have sex with her.

Discuss

Arizona and Utah start voting in a few hours. Cruz should have a relatively easy time in Utah, so Arizona is the one to watch. If Cruz (and Kasich, lol) can hold Trump below 45% or so, the likelihood of no one reaching 1,237 delegates increases.

Apparently more than half of the votes in Arizona have already been cast as they have early voting. This is not good for Cruz as much of the votes were cast while Rubio was still in the race.

KatsuKitty: GOP Front Runner Donald Trump told the annual AIPAC convention that he will stand with Israel if elected President and even told them that his daughter is "about to have a beautiful Jewish baby."

This election isn't really the brightest of elections. But it's probably perhaps the most memorable yet.

It was an AIPAC speech. He'll turn back on it faster than you can say "to the gas chamber, go!"

Look at his strongest supporters if you want proof of that.

Due a reduction of polling places in Arizona's most populous county (they had 200 in 2012, and 60 today), hundreds of people are still waiting in line to vote more than two and a half hours after polls closed. There were lots of reports of people waiting anywhere from half an hour to three hours to vote. Local and national press are calling it a mess, and I can't help but agree.

Regardless of the people still in line, the state has already been called:

The funny thing is if Trump actually wins the general election, maybe it will finally kill the belief some people still hold that the president really has any power compared to the ineffectual, policy stalling, bloated half-corpse that is Congress.

I may detest Donald Trump with a passion, but I do believe that his policies won't really happen because Congress will not really allow them. However, I do believe Congress should have term limits so they actually get things done rather than argue over identity politics.

Even without legislatorial cooperation, the US Presidency is an extremely powerful position. Particularly on foreign policy matters.

This goes further still the less said President cares about either policy or ethical restraint, which applies to both Hillary and Trump in equal measure.

Trump doesn't care even remotely about policy. He only cares about himself. He'll pull the same maneuvers Clinton did in the 90s, stealing talking points from both sides at once, and flanking his opposition by calling for a more extreme version of whatever's on their mind at the moment. Trump'll never once back an unpopular measure, and always go with what's easy no matter how nasty the bill in front of him is. Only instead of using political correctness as a means of deflection, he's using people's disgust with political correctness as a means of deflection.

Not that it will change any time soon. I don't think anyone except Independents would ever be willing to legislate some of their power away.

Regarding congress I remember a little while back before the primaries hearing Party Republican Guy on NPR talking about their long-term plans being to aim harder at congress since they're reliably able to regularly win seats compared to winning the White House, and that strengthening congress and weakening the presidency was big on their to-do list.

This is actually one of the reasons I flat-out refuse to vote for Trump and Clinton. Trump's definitely going to go be just like Clinton.

Disagree. Largely because term limits aren't in the Constitution, so doing that would be unconstitutional.

Also, because look at California. They instituted term limits for their legislature.

Guess what happened? The legislature is now full of newbies who don't know jack-shit, and they get led around by the nose by paid lobbyists who literally hand them pre-written bills to sign, and then they do it.

And because California is literally a one-party state (Democrats), there is no real review of any of this shit.

California now has corporations writing their preferences directly into law and part of the reason for that is term limits.

to me that kind of suggests lobbyists are the problem

not entirely, of course. you need lobbyists to keep in touch with domestic and business needs. but being able to legally throw thousands at individual lawmakers sounds like a really convoluted way to bribe assholes.

Wanna know what Hillary and Trump have in common? Congress won't likey bothy. :p

Can you think of anybody who was even a partly plausible Presidential candidate this year who Congress would like? I guess Rubio or Kasich, and that's leaning heavily on the partly side of partly plausible.
