Like they too the original saying and removed anything of value out of it. Besides that I had no idea what the fuck was happening, what are echo's power besides looking ugly and looking sad. She doesn't, she mostly makes no sounds and sometimes kind of whispers the things she's signing.
 
It's funny because Chelsea Detective and the latest season of Bake Off both have actual deaf people in them, and they're both a thousand times more charismatic, entertaining and watchable than this dumb, ugly, unlikeable shit. I mean granted, they're surrounded by much, much, much better talent and producers, but it's still ridiculous how shit she and her show are.

It really sums up the issue hypocrisy in western media. They want their disabled heroine but never to the point it causes actual discomfort for people the same way legit disabled people do. The heroine just speaks in a whisper and I doubt she actually shows her leg stump or walks awkwardly (how the fuck is a heroine supposed to have a modern metal leg, wouldn't MCU technology already allow full cybernetic replacements? Ditto there are Indians but it is the modern spiritual larpers that are probably actually correct in their beliefs because god forbid you imply paganism isn't a retarded savagery.

Not to defend it, but she rarely whispers, I can only remember a couple instances, and it's in emotional moments so it's kind of like she's screaming whatever she's signing. And they do show the stump, just not bare, she's wearing a sock thing over it. And she does walk awkward for a little while after her prosthetic leg breaks and her tinkering grandpa makes her a temporary one.

It does, but it's expensive. Like, sure there's Winter Soldier's arm, and in the now canonized Defenders shows, Misty Knight gets her cyber arm after she gets amputated, but it's like a multi million dollars prototype given to her by Iron Fist, who's not quite as rich as Stark but still a billionaire who owns a huge tech company.
Kingpin is rich but not rich enough to give her a cyber leg back when they were in good terms, and during the show she's running around solo and getting her shit repaired by her small town pawn shop owner grandpa. Not quite gonna have Wakanda tech in there.
Plus they want to keep the prosthetics reasonably realistic so the cripples can feel represented. "I, too, have a leg like that, I too can be an ornery unlikeable psycho bitch".

I call bullshit, it's been what, 20 years canonically since the first Iron Man suit and somehow having mechanical limbs is still top line tech? Not to mention that Kingpin should definitely be rich enough to afford a million dollar robot arms considering he is apparently rich enough to run for mayor. It's not Tony Soprano scamming the USA government for pennies here.

Disney is bleeding favoritism FAST. People are constantly celebrating their Ls and even their simps are starting to reach a point where they much rather stay quiet than to pointlessly defend something even they deep down know its garbage.

An example of this is the movie "Wish" and how it flopped. Now, I wont get into the specifics as to why but many say this is a flop that Disney deserved to suffer through. The biggest defenders of "Wish" is that its "not so bad" or "just ok", I dont see people saying this is their finest not even for the standards of the current era. Doesnt help that their constant butchering of many beloved properties, near inhumane working conditions, getting involved in petty politics with fucking Florida are all building up a cultural resentment towards this company.

Disney Plus's numbers are concerningly low despite their large library, implying people much rather either pirate the content, find it somewhere else or just not watch it at all.

There is a reason why people are loving humiliate and tear Mickey Mouse apart now that he is "technically" public domain now. Its, in a way, their "fuck you" to Disney for all I mentioned and much more (didnt even mention their ludicrous prices for their parks).

Every golden egg laying franchise Disney had they either strangled to death or over worked it to the point it can no longer generated any enthusiasm. And it's not even just a Disney problem it's a media in general problem. Look at all of the major IP franchise films that bombed last year. Only Mario, Barbie, FNAF, John Wick, and Saw X did alright for the preestablished IP movies are concerned. And you know what? It has been a long time coming. I'm glad Transformers, Fast X, and all the Disney Bombs. I hope we can get rid of the centralized movie industry that is Hollywood one day.
 
I watched Echo tonight. It was not good. Maybe a little better than Secret Invasion but only because it doesn't actively try to ruin established characters like Nick Fury.

If they needed to make an Echo series (they did not) I think they probably should've just made it about Maya trying to escape New York after seemingly offing the Kingpin, a sort of Warriors type narrative. Make it a full on action show and lean into Maya being an anti-hero criminal.

But, nah, instead we get a lot of pointless Native American mysticism crap that goes nowhere and some hamfisted shit about emotional trauma. The pacing, the editing, and ending in particular is just awful, so much so that I assume the show was secretly cancelled at some point but then they realized they already had it half-way done, so they just edited together what they had and shot a few extra scenes for the finale. Seriously, Maya's whole character arc about getting over the loss of her parents is solved by the ghost of her mom popping up and going "i heal u" and thus Maya is healed. The final showdown with the Kingpin is in a barn with a fight scene and editing so bad that it reminds of the end of Masters of the Universe wherein the movie ran out of budget so they had to quickly make do with what little they had.

Ending aside, the Kingpin is... fine. More like his Netflix counterpart than he was in Hawkeye, although I'm a big fan of Vincent D'Onofrio, so I might just be going easy on his character here. The Daredevil scene isn't bad, in fact (save for the final episode) most of the action scenes are decent. Speaking of Daredevil, that scene was so obviously included just so they could use him in the marketing.

The lead actress that plays Maya, Alaqua Cox, really isn't fit for the lead. She has zero experience outside of this role and it shows, with her mostly being stone faced 99% of the time.

Like I said earlier, all MCU technology is proprietary to the extreme. If Stark Industries doesn't want generic knock-offs for cheap, no one gets to have it ever. Only the government is allowed to make their agents cyborgs, but little Josie in the Children's Ward is just going to have to settle for visits from Tony Stark... instead of new legs.

EDIT: Huh, a smart writer (so we know it isn't happening) could recontextualize Tony Stark into the real villain, actually. It was his hoarding of technology and support for the US government to dox superheroes that created a Deus Ex world where the only legal cyborgs and other meta humans allowed have to work for the US government. All for the sake of virtue signaling that Stark was the one brave hero to dox himself. And because the governments of the world are routinely subverted by Hydra or Black Widows or whomever else, the average life of the MCU citizen is actually terrible relative to the magic technology the government possesses.

You know, this is interesting to think about. Movies are one of the last bastions of a monoculture in society nowadays, so running your IP to the ground through cinema seems to be the key to killing it, or all but, in general. Superheroes are now decidedly uncool when it comes to youth. I wonder if they'll finally, if at a snail's pace, go back to being the domain of geeks only once more.

Also, why the fuck is there an European in there? Looks like he could be a Spaniard, but how the fuck is he there almost 300 years before Columbus? Not even if he was a Viking would that work, because they were there (and it was in Canada, at that, not Alabama) like 200 years before the time of this scene.

I know fuck all about this show, because I do not give the slightest of shits, and so I can only go on your description since I haven't seen any of the show.

But what you wrote sounds like a blend of the Cahokia mounds across the river from modern St. Louis, and Moundsville from northern Alabama, all smushed together. 1200AD would be about the right time period for the height of Cahokia city. I think the smaller Moundsville (how creative...) was founded a bit later than that.

I would even hazard a guess that the European you mention is meant to be a Knights Templar, as there's a lot of old conspiracy/alt-hist theories about the Templar knights supposedly visiting Cahokia around the 1200's, and maybe even wiping out the Mississippian culture from disease, to then stick around and eventually become the Masons and secretly run the early USA.

I don't know what sport you're talking about, but at Cahokia they played a disc-rolling game called Chunkey, apparently. They'd gamble heavily on who could throw a spear nearest the disc whenever it stopped rolling. The game originated in Cahokia, but spread to many other areas, including the Cherokee and Choctaws.

They chose her simply because she checked all of their diversity boxes. They didn't have any Injun or disabled characters in the MCU so they dug up this literal who and gave her a shitty show for some Blackrock/ESG money.

Probably because medical tech is not his and his company's forte or specialization. Since he's a heterosexual white guy with barely if any vibranium in his or company's possession. Funnily enough, they actually did premiere a brand-new Native American hero like a week or two before Echo dropped. She's not a deep character or anything, but she was much more entertaining on the whole.

Man. If only they had a Native American character missing a leg within Marvel comics that's been in three different cartoons over the last thirty years and could be another bridge to introduce mutants into the MCU.

I'm gonna be honest, given that Echo's real name is Maya Lopez, I don't associate her with injuns.

If anything, I'd think we'd have seen Red Wolf get adapted to the MCU since he's had his time in the sun in the past decade. Forge would also have been a fine addition. Maybe Thunderhawk/bird or whatever that guy's name is.

Hell, bring in Shaman from Alpha Flight. Want a Z-lister? There's American Eagle and Black Crow who've been Cap adjacent characters.

Want disabled characters that happen to be minorities? You can literally toss The New Warrior's Silhouette onto a thing.
