I think the phrase was “Bean counters didn’t think a soldier’s life was worth 300 grand.”

Nolan was being an anti-U.S. military liberal cunt when doing that line. As the U.S. military spends easily a good part of a million to several million dollars training each individual service man depending on what MOS they're doing. And to say a million dollar investment isn't worth $300,000 protection.....

I liked the approach in Batman Begins where Lucius Fox is explaining to Bruce Wayne the body armour that goes on to become the Batsuit. "Why didn't we put this into production?" "Because the US govt. didn't think that a US soldier's life was worth a quarter of a million dollars" (I can't remember the specific words / figures)

The gist of it being that we can have somewhat futuristic tech but it's not affordable for mass production. And whilst people will push back at that here there's some truth to it - there's a big jump between prototypes and sustainable mass production. And it is also a serviceable explanation for juxtaposing hero tech with normal life, so long as that explanation isn't pushed to breaking point. I don't think Iron Man 1 and 2 did. I think things like Riri building an iron man suit in her dorm room does, though.
Riri has a Reretarded name.

At this point we just have the Spidey villains, the X-Villains, and the F4. I can't wait for a decade or two of X-Villains rotating in and out.
I'd love to see a Kingpin as Spiderman villain film with a Gang War plot including Rose, Hobgoblin, Daredevil, Hammerhead etc but that's wildly optimistic and will never happen.

And I like Kang as a villain. The really crazy villains with grandiose plans are always my favourites. I still think he's salvageable with a recast.

I just had an idea regarding both @Alexander Thaut 's idea about using Dracula as well as an earlier commenter's idea of using Dr. Strange and Black Panther as the new Tony and Steve. The plot would be a Doctor Strange 3 team up film where Stephen and T'challa have to rescue Clea and Storm from being forced by Dracula to join his harem of brides. It doesn't have to be the biggest multiverse ending shitstorm, just something fresh and unique.

Sometimes I like to browse through Chinese-language forums, and these were from a thread titled "Why are Hollywood movies becoming less and less popular in China?":

There are some funny responses in the thread if you're willing to go through the effort of translating them. Shows that it's not just "angry white men" who feel this way.
I forgot to reply about it, but the "appeal to China" was the ESG of 5 years ago as a way to explain reduction in quality and writing.

The only rumoured recast that might work is the Will Smith one. But thats a long shot in both working and in them actually doing it. And also Smith willing to do it.

Welp, the MCU is already starting the year on a bad foot - Steven Yeun is leaving Thunderbolts.

In fairness, having an Asian Guy play Sentry, a literal Blonde Haired Blue Eyed White Man, didn’t make sense anyway, but still - can anyone here name… literally anyone else attached to Thunderbolts? It’s been said, but it bears repeating that the MCU no longer has Star Power, and is coasting along on sheer inertia at this point.

Pugh, Stan, Weisz, Harbour, Dreyfus. The rest don't matter lol

The "leaked" (nice try, Disney) fight scene between Echo and Daredevil is, hmm hmm, creme de la creme of cringe. He literally strikes her with his batton right in the face and she acts mildly annoyed. And there is a point where he grabs and strikes the side of her knee which feels like should have at least cracked something.

Stop fucking pretending that small petite girls can beat men twice her size.

And I still have no fucking idea who Echo is and why should I care and why Disney even made this and why I cant wait for this to be the next She Hulk level disaster.

She has a prosthetic leg there.

And a prosthetic face too I guess.

Because they found a native deaf amputee woman (with zero acting experience but who cares about that). You vill vatch it and you vill like it, or you're racist/sexist/ableist.

they shouldn't have put all their eggs in this Easter nigger's basket when he was only famous for 3 days. dude came and went in Hollywood relevance faster than anyone I've ever seen. these movies have literally no chance once the nostalgia bait of tobey, andrew, Hugh and deadpool with the foX-men are done. they're going to have to reboot and recast and make shit people want to see again. personally though I just think the genre fatigue has actually set in and they need to go find the next genre to beat into the ground because there's not much milk left in marvel's cow and although I want them to be good Gunn's DC movies are dead on arrival.
secret wars is just going to be a braindead cameofest and after that they're going to really have nothing going forward besides dragging a Spider-Man movie every couple years out and fucking up the X-Men worse than the last guys.

Basically this. People can cope that “it’s not Superhero Fatigue, it’s Bad Movie Fatigue”, and while it's not complete Cope, the movies ARE bad, it ignores the core issue.

Iron Man - the start of all of this, depending on how you view the Edward Norton Hulk movie - came out in 2008. It was the start of a decade of box office dominance that peaked with Endgame. Disney and Marvel caught lightning in a bottle, but like all genres that get this big people are finally moving onto whatever the new hotness is (apparently Video Game movies? would never have called that back in the day…). Disney can try to keep getting blood from a stone, but the MCU, if not the superhero genre as a whole, is cooked.

I’m not saying Superhero movies will go away - Hollywood is too creatively bankrupt - but they’re probably going to wind up like the early 2000’s, few and far between with little homework required - no, I’m not watching 7 different Disney+ series to know who this irrelevant fuckstick is…

Does Hollywood even have star power anymore? There's a massive ongoing generational gap in making new identifiable actors after a lot of 80's-90's actors retired. They tried to use Game of Thrones actors instead but they all bombed and the series ending badly removed them from public consciousness
GoT actors before that show went to shit and killed any hype they had

Walking Dead Actors before that show went to shit and ruined any hype they had

The Rock before he managed to tank all of his goodwill and connections via Black Adam

I’m sensing a pattern here.

I think the greater pattern is Hollywood being extremely conservative with casting new leads and just keep using the same stars for 30 years, which now comes to roost.

Nearly every actor from that era, where people watched movies to see the actor, are already elderly or very near there. Modern Hollywood failed to create new identifiable and "likable" faces to carry them into the future. It doesnt help that unrestricted internet access to a lot of these retards exposed who they really are so a lot of cult of personality shit died off over the last two decades the moment they were allowed to open their mouths.

Like you said, they tried that with GOT actors but it didnt help nearly every project they have been was a bomb so that stardom faded out relatively quick (the awful last two seasons surely didnt help neither).

Long story short, Hollywood really is fucked on that aspect, especially since it seems to have been transfered over to social media (but its not like online personalities tend to work outside of the internet and their niche audience as we have seen many times by now).
The Rock before he managed to tank all of his goodwill and connections via Black Adam

He is the definition of an actor buying into his own hype and wanting to make an entire cinematic universe all about him, and that shockingly not working out.
