So without knowing the limitations of the MCUs version of the Infinity Gauntlet I'd just like to point out that Tony Starks a complete piece of shit that fucked up trillions of lives in the universe just to make sure his stupid made up daughter got to stay around instead of just using the power to just rewind time and make Thor not miss Thanos's fucking head or some shit lol.
It’s less of a limitation and more what was happening behind the scenes.
You are right that if they had an omnipotent wish granting device they could find thousands of better solutions.
But, in the real world, I am betting most of the actors they had their roles “killed“ already wanted out. They had been at it for a decade already for one.
For fans, Marvel movies were great. Easy to consume, and Fun. But actors want to do “serious“ roles and try to go for awards (Golden Globes and Oscars.) And in the case of Robert Downey Jr, it probably was that, and the fact he was getting too expensive.
Being in the MCU was a guaranteed check, but it also must have hurt their egos. Even Robert Downey Jr said the Oppenheimer movie was the best movie he has ever been, and he wasn’t even the star of it. He literally only played a joyless politician. The exact opposite of Tony Stark. Granted he was good, but it’s very telling he didn’t pick any MCU movie.
Keep in mind most actors are not comic book nerds. Henry Cavill is truly an exception. Most of them secretly agree with Scorsese that the MCU is not cinema, and they probably see Marvel as kiddie/ nerd stuff. They feel like clowns entertaining children.
I guarantee most of them would rather be doing a serious World War 2 period piece than putting on spandex, and waving their hands at a green screen. They would rather be at snobbish galas than in comic cons.
Point is, there Was truly not other outcome than what we got.
