Captain Marvel is another example of Marvel's woke bullshit fucking them over. I've never seen the movie myself but everything I know about it paints a bad picture. Carol is nothing like her comic counterpart, to the point where she basically doesn't have a personality at all because they confused "boring" with "stoic". Then they juiced up her power level so much that they can't use her outside of her movies because she's invincible. It meant a lot to the writers to have a woman be the strongest Avenger, to the point where it hurts the rest of the universe. They made a whole movie to hype up a glorified cameo in Endgame.
It is really bad. She's an unlikeable WHORE who keeps making dumbass girlboss faces at the camera. In general the movie is just bullshit, nothing happens in it.

Wasn't Brie "stinks like rotten cheese" Larson the most hated celeb in the MCU due to her socio-political dumbfuckery? I remember laughing in the theater when she got KO'ed by Thanos in Endgame. So much for being "all-powerful."

Something notable in her movie is the arc she goes through. Most of the Marvel movies and many genre movies in particular, have the arc of the hero starting strong, facing defeat due to some flaw, achieving victory through over coming that flaw. In the first Thor movie he learns humility, in the first Iron Man he is humbled at the start and his arc is about facing up to the consequences of his flaws and paying for them through his sacrifice. Ant Man has a man who chose the easy path even though he knew it was wrong and is learning not to. Dr. Strange is arrogant and above people and when his status / self-image is taken away from him he drives away his partner, his fortune, his reputation because he can't live without his self-image. Only when he reaches absolute rock bottom and accepts that he's a small part of something larger, does he learn how to re-build and become who he is meant to be. As the Ancient One finally makes him see: "It's not about you."

Even the ensemble movie Avengers has this arc of them failing because they keep trampling on each other's strengths and fighting each other until finally they work out how to be a team and defeat Loki.

Captain Marvel? She was powerful and perfect all along and her arc is learning not to listen to other people who say she isn't.

I'm not saying self-confidence is a bad message to place in your movie. But I couldn't help but notice this is what they chose for her.

Natasha had a better film than Carol although that's mainly due to Florence Pugh actually acting. Florence, Lewis, and Julia carried Thunderbolts imo.

I was never sold on Carol's whole girlboss thing. And teehee see how 90s it is there's a blockbuster and No Doubt and Garbage because it's the 90s! See how she shows that motorcycle dude how strang independent wamen she is?

It was odd how she shows up in Endgame for like ten minutes then is gone for the entire film except the last act where she is a bulldyke. I heard various rumors, most common being that the Russo fags didn't think she'd be as popular as she got, same with T'Challa (?) but.......it doesn't really add up.

Then she returns for The Marvels which.....is so bad you can't even make a drinking game out of it.

The F4 movie promotion had the opposite intended effect on me leading up to release. I decided I'd see it or Superman in theaters since they both came out around the same time and decided the latter. Superman also had some bad promotion (mainly Gunn saying stupid shit), but F4 was so much worse I went with Superman. And Superman was okay. Not good, probably will never watch it again, but it was perfectly okay capeshit to spend 2 hours shoveling popcorn down my mouth and interested me enough to see what happens next in the DCU.

The lead up to this movie on the other hand,
>Oh shit they're in a different universe that looks kinda cool with the future 60's vibe and it ignores the main universe garbage. Oh shit Galactus that could be neat.
Fast forward a couple months...
>Pascal says stupid shit, the guy playing Johnny says some REALLY stupid shit about being a feminist now, apparently IW is gonna be the protagonist which I don't necessarily mind if written well but all the girl boss stuff in the MCU leads me to believe it won't
Second trailer comes out and it totally killed any interest in this shit. The dumb, ashamed of comics "No I won't say Clobbering Time" Thing "joke" sealed the deal. I try to be cautiously optimistic but I'm 90% sure the next two Avengers movies are gonna try to be carried hard by cameos. They learned the wrong lessons from Deadpool & Wolverine and No Way Home. MAYBE the next Spiderman might be okay but this shit is determined to fail now. Hell, I still haven't even pirated Brave New World or Thunderbolts and I was interested in how they both might turn out since I like Captain America movies and Bucky. I posted in the DC thread it seems like Gunn keeps shooting himself in the foot but the MCU seems determined to keep blowing their head off with a shotgun.

The thing is that Brie Larson is a good actress when she has to do emotional scenes. Take her performance in Room or even the scene in Captain Marvel where she's struggling to comprehend the fact that everything she knows is a lie. It's just that she doesn't really pull off roles where she has to be a spunky wisecracker, the kind of character people know Captain Marvel as.

There was a period where I lived a short walk from a cinema that served pizza, subs, and beer. My job at the time regularly entailed working for weeks until being told the bean counters wanted me to take a few days off. Part of my unwinding routine was to walk to the cinema and laugh at whatever tentpole slop they were showing. One such occasion happened to be the first Larson Captain Marvel film:

I remember finding it odd that I was the only person in the theater, and laughing at how her arc was deciding she was already the best; that a girlboss doesn't have to listen to people, and that she defeated the invading space fleet by ramming her head through it like Goku. I also found it ridiculous that the Skrulls invading Earth were retconned as non-villains purely because they were diasporic immigrants (take THAT, Mr. President!).

My takeaway was that Brie Larson is autistic, and wears a halloween costume like an autistic. After that, I never took her seriously. I'm also charmed by her occasional flashings of butt plugs, and acknowledgement that the public hates her:

What's everyone's predictions for the Fantastic 4 film? Im predicting the film is going to be middling to somewhat bad, not terrible and a complete lost cause but the trailer and leaks have done favors for me

I'm sure it'll break even, but it has an uphill battle going for it - maybe not so much competition wise, I don't know what else is coming out around it, but mostly off of the Fantastic Four not really being anyone's favorite team and the fact that every other F4 movie has either been bad or didn't come out. Them going straight for Galactus when he's legitimately someone they could build a phase around is also a knock against it.

Of course, break even assumes Disney didn't massively overspend making this one. Which looking at Capeshit budgets, I'm not optimistic on.

I bet it was overspent on as released budgets on previous marvel films thanks to disclosure laws film in the UK for tax reasons. Also I know what to expect given that Sue Storm is the one front and center on the poster with Reed Richards on the side. Im not expecting this film to crack a 500 million, id be seriously surprised with that. Not to mention one of the main promotions is with Little Caesars, not a good look.

I think it is gonna be bad and I am not even gonna go with Silver Karen, Invisible Woman Girlbossing across the screen or Pedro being the reason I think that way (None of it helps)

Trailer with Ben being on the street..and the Deli Owner saying "HEY SAY ITS CLOBBERING TIME" and Ben being "I don't say that...stupid fucking cartoon" is enough for me to instantly think that the people who wrote this hate comic books. I am so fucking tired of the "ISN'T IT SILLY HE HAS THIS CATCH PHRASE" Irony Poisoned shit that Western writing still can't fucking get over.

The F4 movie was mid. God damn these writers have their characters become stupid just to create conflict.

For example, why did Reed have to say, "Oh, Galactus wants the baby," to the press? Would Reed, the smartest man on Earth, really say that? Fuck no, it's to create conflict, of course, and all it does is to have Sue have her "moment" with the protestors.

I was almost invested at the ending when Johnny was about to sacrifice himself. But of course, they pussied out and had the Silver Surfer sacrifice herself instead because we just have to have a happy ending. If they had any balls they would've had the Silver Surfer ready to sacrifice herself, but Johnny says what he says, and pushes her out of the way and delivers the blow to Galactus.

Have Sue come back to know that Johnny is gone, and have her lash out at the Silver Surfer, who doesn't know what to say, and runs off. Everything has to be a goddamn happy ending these days (yes, Viktor comes and steals the baby in the post-credits, but I don't count that). Have Johnny come back in the Avengers, or something, but man, the ending sucked.
