This is like the third time I have seen Channing Tatum in a cameo and assumed it was some actor I've never seen before. He looks like a mannequin. If I passed by five exact clones of Channing Tatum at the grocery store, I probably wouldn't even notice that the Matrix was glitching.
For some reason I thought it was Chris Evans again until he started talking. They don't look all that similar when you put them side by side, but they both have very generic Hollywood pretty boy faces.

Channing Tatum tweeting earlier that he FINALLY got to play a character he loves got me a bit moved. He's truly a fan of Gambit. Gambit's fan sites and groups are happy with him and feel pleased he did the role justice.

Re: Pascal
The reason Pascal's a thing is due to Oberyn. When he started his career, he was "generic white dude who could pass for any race" because he might be white, but ethnically Spanish, which is a rare mix. He was in Buffy, Law and Order, and others and he's always been nothing but "generic dude".

He aged well when he turned 40 and Oberyn's a tan dude, so that added to him looking exotic, but aside from that, the role was good and the character was good. And people see him as "brown cool actor" despite he is not brown. He's absolutely way whiter than Jessica Alba, who was also mixed Spanish.

I finally got the wife to catch the part where he puts on the mask. She's been into Xmen since the early 90s in the comics, the old cartoon, the vs games, etc.
She was more "oh. that's nice" at the mask but laughed out loud hard at LIEFELD'S JUST FEET

Channing Tatum was excellent as Gambit. Thick-ass Cajun accent as it should be.

Pity he couldn't be in a better movie.
RDJ may have perfectly played Tony Stark ... But we all know that the closest thing we have to a IRL Tony Stark is Elon Musk. At least he's trying to innovate without telling us plebs that we have to lower our quality of life ...
Nah the closest to an IRL Tony Stark was John McAfee. Elon is a charisma void.

also had Zombie Deadpool's Head shown up in previous movies? tbh I never saw them so I dunno, but one of the few Deadpool comics I've read had him as a wisecracking sidekick so I got who he was

So, back to the topic of the news from Comic Con ... RDJ as Victor Von Doom is actually a great casting choice on paper. Because he has spent so much time as Iron Man, people forget what a talented and versatile actor he actually is.

This casting choice is soiled because RDJ is Iron Man. Had he never been Iron Man, then I think this casting choice would receive unanimous excitement ... Or would it? RDJ as Iron Man basically created the MCU, and it was RDJ's comeback role after a decade or so of his very public substance abuse issues. So ... Yeah, I don't know how you can cast him as another MCU character. It's a bizarre choice that reeks of desperation.

The only way they can make this work, IMO, is to completely make Doom all CGI and have RDJ provide just voicework that doesn't sound like him at all.
I hope what they do is go super comic book with how it’s RDJ as Doom. That something set up in that new Fantastic Four movie or whatever comes before, has Victor taking over the dead body of Tony Stark and basically reanimating him but with Victors mind inside. Either that or it’s a Tony from another Universe because this multiverse nonsense won’t go away. But having Doom take Tony’s body is such a retarded comic book twist that it’s the only one I will accept. Plus it gives you that moment near the end of the movie where Tony’s mind over powers Doom and he comes out and saves the DEIVengers.

Something someone pointed out to me is how much of the humor relies on being obsessive about the "behind the scenes" deals with Fox and Disney and all the rumors and other bullshit. I went with a friend who just watched the films and never know about Fox or
Tatum put a lot of effort into making Gambit dressed like the cartoon character version, work pretty good.
honestly between the look and accent and fighting, its obvious
Had he never been Iron Man, then I think this casting choice would receive unanimous excitement
probably not, because outside of Iron Man. RDJ is mainly known for being Mel Gibson's buddy. And who knows what shitty films and especially social media hot takes we missed out on because of him being part of the MCU. From what the gossip has said, he's not exactly a fan of modern social media and wokeness. No way in hell he'd be able to weasel out of "you can't be a democrat" as easily without the mouse there to help him avoid bad press the last dozen years. Of course like you also said, the MCU only exists because of him. He pretty much carried the MCU on his back for the first two phases. barely anyone watched the non-RDJ phase one movies when they came out and same thing with phase two outside of GOTG and Winter Soldier. the entire franchise would have crashed and burned without RDJ there to be the "face" of the universe for about half a decade before they started making box office hits outside of him. Isn't he in almost half the films too in the entire thanos saga? FFS Spiderman might as well have been Iron Man's sidekick for how much those films revolve around him

But this is all bullshit because we know even if they say he's not
, all the downfall shit that happened before Logan hasn't happened yet
you sure? i guess because Deadpool is Canadian and its all about the kids fucking off to Canada i guess i assumed all that shit did happen in those 6 years between the last film and this one, and we just never hear about all that because its in another country.
That was definitely a case where the main cast kinda carried those movies.
Really wish The Thing showed up, that guy was as obsessed with playing him as Ryan was with Deadpool. he'd probably do it for free, just like Kelsey straight up sat in the makeup chair for hours for a 5 second cameo because he enjoys the role.

it's a damn shame they never got to film this, even if it was with Urban instead of Kelly

No, costume designers Graham Churchyard and Mayes C. Rubeo put a lot of work into that.
Let's give the proper people some credit.

I’m admittedly ambivalent about RDJ as Doom, but that’s mostly because Doom is someone who demands a classically trained actor and my number one choice for the role, just saying Fuck It and casting Christopher Lee, is unfortunately dead. Lord knows he could’ve carried the movies solo if he had to…

I’m willing to give RDJ a chance, if only to see Reddit try and justify it if he just plays Tony Stark with an accent.

Wouldn't it be easier to side-step the whole accent thing like they did in Valkyrie (with Tom Cruise even redubbing all his lines)? Season 2 of the 90s FF toon did that, as did the Incredible Hulk:
