I'm glad that Spider-Man arguably has the largest amount of good to great films in regards to capeshit. Even when you have something like Spider-Man 3, its entertainment value at least makes up for its poor story.
Yeah like honestly the worst Spider-Man films that aren't the weird Sony villain movies is Amazing Spider-Man 2 and even that movie has a so bad, it's good quality to it.

I will go to my grave saying Venom in SM3 should have been John Jameson instead of Eddie Brock. The dude playing John already has the GigaChad body to pull of Venom, plus him wanting revenge on Peter for “stealing” his fiancée would’ve been much more interesting than Eddie being upset Peter called out his photoshopped pics (which I know is more comic accurate). Just have John accidentally get infected my the symbiote on one of his outer space voyages, easy peasy!
That requires Raimi caring enough about the idea of Venom to do that and Avi Arad accepting anyone that isn't Eddie Brock to be Venom.

I didn't mind Topher Grace's performance in Spiderman 3, but he definitely didn't have the build for it. I always argued he would've been a better Carnage than Venom with his size, and his performance in Predators cemented my stance on that.

2007 was a bad year for me. I was 12 and Spider-Man 3 and X-Men 3 both came out and sucked. Spider-Man 3 I have came around on. I appreciate it way more now, it's biggest sin is that it followed Spider-Man 2 which even when it came out was obviously one of the best superhero movies ever made. I've probably seen it 200 times. I had only seen 3 twice. once in theaters and once on dvd until like last year where I sat down and watched it 15 years removed to see what I actually think of it. the sandman killed uncle ben shit is still retarded, and venom should have been saved for the next movie. let spidey wear the black suit the whole time and once Harry dies he breaks down over his role in it and gets rid of it, then Venom is Spider-Man 4 that would have been better. in a post mcu world though, spider-man 3 kicks ass. emo peter is much funnier than the whedonisms we get as jokes now.

I said it a long time ago but the only way to get guys my age who checked out of the mcu to see secret wars is Hugh Jackman teamed up with Tobey Maguire and after seeing the deadpool/wolverine trailer I guarantee that is where they're going. and honestly I don't care at this point the universe is DOA and I just want to have fun with these movies again so do whatever faggot cameo fests you want I'm much more excited about that than anything storywise anymore because I don't give a shit anymore.

Look at 'No Way Home'. What was the thing people got most excited for and generated the most buzz? It was the return of the previous Spidermen incarnations, Tobey Maguire in particular. And frankly not without reason - that was the best part of the movie. The interplay between the three Spidermen was fun and the emotions were strongest with the two old timers. I didn't even like the Sony movies but when the Garfield Spiderman saves MJ from dying in the exact same way Gwen Stacy did, wow - hit you right in the chest.

Sidenote, I liked that this movie showed the problem with the Sony movie wasn't Andrew Garfield as he was very likeable and believable in this.

Eddie Brock Venom should have been Brock Lesnar as Eddie, with Paul Heyman voicing the symbiote, and Venom is both talking simultaneously

The perfect filmed version of Peter's origin story. Also feels the most "comic-book" like of the three. Willem Dafoe as the Green Goblin is a highlight.
The Raimi films were adapted right out of the Ditko and Romita comics. Things like the Goblin impaling himself and Spider-Man throwing his suit in the trashcan were lifted straight from the panels.

Raimi's characterization of Peter is far different than how he was in the Ditko and Romita eras. The Ditko era Peter was an especially anger, neurotic guy. I actually can't think of any adaption that gets his personality right.

You are correct. Ditko's Spidey was an angry nerd who could be extremely callous at times. That said, Tobey played him the closest, having actual flaws and making mistakes. As opposed to the goody two shoes from the MCU Spidey or the jock from the Amazing duology.

Most of Far From Home and No Way Home's plots are due to Peter fucking up. Homecoming also has him making mistakes.

Yes, but those mistakes are due to him being too good, too trusting, too virtuous, etc. It's not like him causing his own misfortunes by being callous and spiteful, like it was in early Spider-Man.

Most of the situations he gets into in Homecoming are due to him being arrogant and trying to prove himself to Tony. In Far From Home, him giving Mysterio the glasses is in part due to trusting him but also because he's trying to avoid the responsibility that comes with Tony's gift. No Way Home's entire plot hinges on him wanting to take an easy way out and essentially mind rape all of humanity.

yeah spider-man was a fuckin' dumb kid asshole. that's why he worked and was relatable from the jump. no movie has gotten that part down. but at least the raimi trilogy he feels like a real person I don't think the later movies did anything like that. the first two are pretty cool because they feel like close adaptations of the story in the early comics down to the point you could take those movies and change the setting from 2001 and 2004 to 1965 and nothing changes

So much this. It's classic mary sue writing- their only mistake is being too good of a person.

Garfield Spidey's line about how he stopped pulling his punches for a while made me want a third movie with him where we see that character arc.

I absolutely hated The Amazing Spider-Man movies but in retrospect MCU spidey made me reevaluate them like masterpieces because those 3 movies are fucking terrible and don't get Spider-Man at all. TASM movies are funny to me though because I took this girl to see the second one when it came out, and the whole movie she kept basically being like ya guys think I'll fuck em on the first date and I won't, and I was like god damn it not only did that movie suck ass but she's terrible too. anyways when I took her home she said 'aren't you going to come in and fuck me' and I thought wow what a lying whore oh well. anyways years go by and I never talked to her again but a buddy of mine from my hometown ended up dating this girl and I went to their house once and she had a HUGE poster of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on their wall and I could not stop laughing once I saw it. when they broke up I asked him about it and he was like dude I already know she had a weird thing when it came to you lol. what a shitty movie though.

i've maybe said this in this thread before but my big problem with every spider-man after tobey is he's supposed to be a fucking nerd. like he's a guy who you look at and instinctively want to beat the living fuck out of him because he's such a faggot. he's the guy who is delusional jerking off to the prom queen thinking (correctly) that he'll marry that whore one day but walks into school every day thinking today is my day but ends up shoved in a fuckin toilet. andrew garfield looked and acted like an antisocial pothead and the problem with holland is he's not a weird nerd he's fucking autistic and until the 3rd movie his life is awesome. spider-man is so cool because his life FUCKING SUCKS, he's treated like shit by everyone. has a shit job where his boss wants him to look like a piece of shit, his girlfriend is a fucking used up whore, his best friend fucking hates him, he can't even pay his fuckin' rent but he still gets up every day and does the right thing. he's a hero despite everything in the world but his sweet old lady aunt being against him.

holland's spidey gets hand outs from tony fucking stark, is dating the hot negress, has a fat friend who worships the ground he walks on, and has no real problems. aunt may and him don't even seem fucking poor in the first couple movies what the fuck. he is just some faggot wish fulfillment shit. spider-man is supposed to be wish fulfillment. BUT FOR REAL PEOPLE who's lives are fucking awful. Peter Parker is the distillment of all the rage you feel because your job sucks, your woman sucks, your life sucks, you're fucking broke, people step on you all goddamn day, but if you had super powers, you'd still choose to do the right thing BECAUSE ITS THE RIGHT THING TO DO. Peter Parker vents his frustration by being spider-man, he's a weird faggot but as spider-man he beats the shit out of bad guys, he is funny, he's everything he is not in his day to day real life. he's a fucking bad ass dude. he pulls hot chicks, he beats the living fuck out of people, he is liked. he puts on the mask and becomes what he in his deluded ignorance thinks flash thompson is actually like.

Naivety is a weakness. It's something Holland's Spider-Man definitely suffered from.
In the real world yes, in 99% of media it's basically a defence of having a mary sue. Especially as it's not something a character can actually evolve over and overcome, as it requires him/her to have less of a good trait.

Tobey Spiderman was an asshole, tried to use his powers for a selfish reason and wants to quit, already making him an infinitely better character than his MCU counterpart.

Yeah, I was about to say, that was the main thematic arc of SM2 (2004). Peter coming to terms with the fact that being a superhero is *gasp* not a fix-all for your problems! You have to actually sacrifice your dreams for the sake of helping others. Hell, Aunt May (best character, BTW) outright says as much.
Aunt May said:
Everybody loves a hero. People line up for them…cheer them…scream their names. And years later, they’ll tell how they stood in the rain for hours just to get a glimpse of the one who taught them to hold on a second longer. I believe there’s a hero in all of us that keeps us honest, gives us strength, makes us noble, and finally allows us to die with pride, even though sometimes we have to be steady and give up the thing we want the most – even our dreams.

They've been hinting at reducing output, but it's basically confirmed now.
