The last time a documentary did well was when you're dealing with the likes of Michael Moore propaganda like Sicko and Fahrenheit 9/11. Or, an Inconvenient Truth.

The fact that it lost to a non-political documentary that didn't even receive a big marketing push just slams the nail in the coffin of not just capeshit but the movie market in general. I think we might be seeing the end of 200+ million blockbusters at least for a very long time.

With Madame Web, it's the problem. I never thought I'd see the day where I'd think respecting source material is the problem. But when you adapt something haphazardly, and do so respecting the MODERN comics stories that are garbage, you get current day cape films.

Imagine an actual comic based on the Claremont Spider-woman stories? Or imagine a wholly original take? Anything is better this garbled mess. And it's not limited to Sony. Marvels in the same boat.

There are millions of wannabe actors who would give their left nut to appear in an MCU film. Case in point: Kumail Nanjiani, who destroyed his body with steroids for the chance to play a minor side character in The Eternals. Superhero films are the only kind of films bringing in audiences anymore. No aspiring actor would give up the exposure and prestige that comes from appearing in one because they might get overshadowed by their costar.

Rhodes and Banner were recast in the beginning of the MCU when contracts were being rolled out for a cinematic universe. With that said, Thunderbolt was recast with Harrison Ford with William Hurt. So there should really be no reason to not simply recast unless things are that bad.
