Ordered this dress off shein(obv this is the shein pic lol) , tried it on but it's way too short in the back. Would you ladies think this would look dumb with some Capri leggings? Or would super opaque black tights do?

Leggings would mirror the solid black on the arms; I think that's a good bet.

I'm after things that hide bra lines, and generally smooth out my shape but don't take ages to get in/out of or threaten my circulation. I'm in the uk
Maybe old fashioned but makes a HUGE difference - you need a slip! A dress type slip makes a massive difference under dresses. It stops them riding up, covers underwear lines and makes the dress hang better. I had a Quick Look on the M and S website and there are loads. Most of theirs are polyamide which I was wary about but actually they’re OK, and I say that as someone firmly against nylon, and very much in the hot flash era of her life. If you’ve got the money, you can go for silk, who h is way nicer. Just search for silk slip
The other thing which is a bit weird is a body stocking. I’d have put these down in the kinky undies category until I wore one under a dress and realised they can sometimes be practical. They also have just top half bodies as well.
But slips are the main thing. You can get cami style for tops, full dresses of any length and skirts of any length too. I’m a convert

This is a good thing to remember in general.

Some of the Ways of the Ancients are silly and superstitious and we have better options now. Other times, they got it right a couple hundred years ago and no tinkering has been needed since.

I'm getting into doing my nails for some self-care, and just... How the fuck do you manicure your dominant hand? Like, I can get everything clean on my left hand, but my right hand...looks like shit.

How do I do this with my opposite hand lmfao

Damn right. I’m beginning to think they were right about the need for vests as well, it’s freezing.
My gran used to tell me about when they were so poor they’d stuff their shoes and clothes with newspaper to keep warm. My grandad was still trying to come to grips with women wearing trousers …

I found this deal, after needing to replace a black skater skirt that I had for ten years or so. Probably closer to eleven.
The fabric should be stretchy, according to the listing. Hopefully I can get another 10+ years out of it.
I don’t have a problem paying more for key pieces that are versatile like this one is. I can pair it over leggings this winter as well.

Practice, use an orange stick or clean up brush, or use liquid vinyl latex (duh sorry) around your nail. It'll peel right off. Try to get it as close to your nail as possible. You'll probably still have to clean up a little depending on how messy you are lmao.

My collection is at about 40 polishes now so I've been playing with automotive color shift flakes in suspension base, and mixing what I have to make new shades - got some tiny bottles and mixing beads too. I've also been playing with magnetics but my patience wears thin to do much more than velvetize it. I love the glass bead effect but just can't seem to get it right :(

eta: I can sperg all day about polishes, application, best top coat, and how to top-coat chonky glitters without a glitter grabber so please feel free to tag me in any nail-related discussions!

Keep your hands flat to the table when you paint them. I like wide brushes because then your motion only really needs to be a bit of up and down work because the brush can span the width of most of your nails with a bit of pressure.

People are building spinning magnetic rigs for it on Reddit. I think magnet strength plays a big role too (iirc non gel requires a stronger magnet)

I have a really deep C-curve so I have to kinda twirl my brush to get the sidewalls near the tips and move my finger side-to-side to see exactly where I'm laying my polish.

I bought that 5D print factory contraption off Etsy and experimented with the different heights and spin speed. I even put my 30 lb. horseshoe over it but alas, I end up just velvetizing it anyway. I don't use gels; I got some Supwee very fine particulate magnetic (color name: "Blue" lmao, but it flashes emerald to purple to blue) off of Amazon. It's pretty spectacular in velvet effect so I'm happy.

I've been fucking with my new flakie frankenpolish and I love it so much. Looks even better than Mooncat's iconic Dragon Scales if I put a scattered holo topper on it. It's definitely gonna be my vacation manicure. Photo does not do it proper justice.

eta: the pigment of these flakies makes my suspension base turn like a jelly gray, performance seems unaffected. As luck would have it I was able to score the last of these flakes on Etsy:

... which seem way less transparent and iridescent than the automotive flakes I got from Didspade. I'll mix my next batch on the mat using clear nail polish to compare. It'd be nice not to have to use a coat of black underneath.

Anyone know any drugstore/inexpensive moisturizers that will work over snail mucin? I use La Roche Posay’s day time barrier moisturizer during the day under my makeup and I really like it. So I went and bought the night time one and it pills on my skin even when there’s nothing on my skin. My skin isn’t oily at all either (which is why I need a super good moisturizer, something for super dry skin).

Vests are a godsend. They’re great for hiking and other outdoor activities when a coat or sweatshirt is too warm but it’s too cold for just a long tee. They’re also great for skiing in colder temps when you need just one more layer under your coat but don’t want bulky sleeves.

They make some with a bazillion pockets so you can carry some or all of your gear packed around your torso instead of in a (big) backpack.

Newspaper stuffing - makes sense. A related woods survival tip: if you unexpectedly have to spend the night in the woods, packing dry leaves around yourself can help you keep warm.

Hate to tell you this but practice practice practice. lol. If you do your own nails often enough, your non-dominant hand will get better at it.

Until then, though, here's some options:
-Liquid latex. Stuff smells horrible, but if you put this around your nails before you paint them, then you can just peel the mess off when you're done painting.

-Get some nail art brushes so you can dip them in acetone/nail polish remover to clean around the nails in the event of a messy application.

-As others have stated, paint your nails on a flat surface.

Seconded! Slips are a must for me when wearing dresses or skirts.

I’ve just realised vest is another thing that doesn’t translate … a vest in England is like a sleeveless t shirt. A singlet maybe you call them? Or is that Aussies? It’s underwear.
We call the sleeveless jacket things a waistcoat if it’s smart and maybe a body warmer if it’s fleecy.

Found this really cute dark grey ruffle dress at Hot Topic during boxing day, got it for a discount too since they were doing their yearly BUY ONE GET ONE 50% deal. Any coord ideas? I got it with black and red striped gloves too. It has no sleeves, so I was thinking of wearing a white blouse beneath.

I think a white blouse sounds like a good idea! Might give a sort of vintage vibe. Especially if you pair it with mary janes or loafers 🤔 Could vary it with a black blouse too! Do you want to incorporate the striped gloves? Maybe you could match the red stripes with red leggings which has been very on trend lately (and always imo)

relpic for the vibe I'm thinking. Maybe I'm way of 😅

That actually looks SO cute, the red and black palette with a winter backdrop is sooooo good! I just need red leggings and a jacket that isn't so poofy and oversized that it'll overtake the dress itself.

Back to this thread again, but my older brother's birthday is coming up soon and I want to pretty myself up for it! I know he's probably gonna be like "ohhh I just wanna stay home with the family" but not me! I might try my hand at wearing makeup for once, I just wanna look good! What do you think?

I bought some jeans in tk maxx at Christmas and they’re a really good fit for my shape. They’re ’curve appeal’ high waist skinny jeans (ironic as I have no curves..) and they don’t seem to be a brand I can find in Europe.
Does anyone know if these are an American brand, and if so where sells them? Or any similar fit brands? I’m so over the current trend for ride fit everything and these jeans are perfection
