They're slowly making the passport card a federal ID. You already need it for domestic flights. They don't tell you this for some reason but the reason why is that illegals primarily use air travel to sneak in and around the country.
Do you get fingerprinted if you want a new passport issued? That's what they do with passports AND personal IDs in Europe now. It fucking sucks.
I don't think so, I wasn't asked for mine but I already had prints with DOS. Wouldn't be surprised if they added that in the future.
It's from frontier times, Americans are or were pro-minimalism for bureaucracy and anti federal overreach, A lot of our forms of taxation were also minimalistic and didn't need a bloated apparatus to successfully tax people since it would automatically be generated towards the government via key purchases like liquor tax with caveats such as income tax only being implemented for times of war to help prop up long term military efforts. It's only during FDR's time that everything got fucked up and the collective addictive poison of welfare policies going into full swing that needed a complete overhaul expansion of bureaus and more and more forms of permanent taxes, even during FDR's time the concept of a national ID was going to far so the loop-hole was peoples social security ID from the gibsmedat programs which ironically kept demanding every one to stop using it as an ID.
People don't want to be in a government database but between social security and the new driver's license (REAL ID) they have accomplished this.

no, you can't do shit without two forms of id, one photo and one extra. like theoretically if you're amish and you're raised from birth off-grid and are born in a manger and keep your money as cash in your pillow and never interact with broader society you can be undocumented but a legal valid american who has broken no laws, unless you're male and turn 18 then you're legally obligated to enlist in the draft.
Funny that you'd say that because I'm trying to find a way to make myself ineligible for the draft. I'm in eastern Europe (not Ukraine) and I'm very blackpilled about the war. I wouldn't put it past my government to introduce slavery when the US freezes its proxy war in an attempt to prolong it ad infinitum.

If you have a Passport and "Proof of Address" you can do most financial services.
I've met some true and honest no-SSN-having off-the-grid hillbillies. While I envy their ability to live free from government and coporate scrutiny, their lifestyle has all the downsides you would expect. Wouldn't choose it myself.
