I loved Mixtape, especially the Jersh experience playing it. People have been acting like it's somehow a corruption that it was funded by a rich nepo-baby as an own, but the rich patronizing the arts has been a grand tradition in art so I don't see why video games should be different. These same critics probably also reflexively hate corporation-funded mass appeal slop for the opposite reason. Unironically, this was a passion project, it had some cool attention to detail, and it delivered on being a character driven walking sim. The mc was definitely music-autist coded and reminded me of the kid from Almost Famous. Still, I appreciated it as a music enjoyer. I have 2 other points:

It's appreciation of brevity reminded me of Kanye in 2018 where he had his entire label push out short albums mostly produced by Kanye and they released on a weekly schedule. This was the era of Kids See Ghost (Kanye & Kid Cudi), Ye, Pusha-T's Daytona, Teyana Taylor's KTSE, and Nas' Nasir. They all embraced schizo Kanye's short songs and 7 song forumla and generally benefitted from it. It wasn't perfect for all of them but Kids See Ghost is a personal 10/10.

A separate point I had was that the creators really obviously wanted a Swans song in the game but couldn't get it, but I doubt they could fit it in. They mention Swans when the main character's mixtape gets buck broken, and also with the Joy Division- Atmosphere song being included as a nucleation point for post-rock. Longtime MATI enjoyers will know Swans from Lunacy being mentioned (they were big on /mu/ in 2012 following the release of The Seer (great study album, btw)). This is all to say that my favorite post-rock and Swans album is Love of Life.
It's an unpopular opinion, but I'm right /mu/ can suck my dick. It's the quintessential post-rock album and it's front to back bangers. You should listen to it if you liked the Joy Division song.
