LiS was one of the most astroturfed games in history, so 4000 sounds too low. It was just the right game at the right moment.
LiS came out when Telltale made episodic games popular. It didn't come out that long after The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, both much better games. There were a ton of these shitty episodic games, many of which never were finished because people got tired of the gimmick.

The only remotely good bits in LiS were the game mechanics Dontnod pulled from Remember Me.

The reason that episodic games died is that having them come on schedule turned up to be near impossible for modern developers, especially when it wasn't a walking sim/puzzle but actually had gameplay. This made people mock the episodic idea so companies stopped using it.

HOWEVER, episodic games are now just Early Access as some horrific amalgamation of the episodic release schedule while having the option to fallback on being glorified beta.

+ your choices mattering somewhat.

Devs made the hospital visit with Kate purely because players wanted to see more of her.

Meanwhile TWD Season 2, the character you saved from dying is dying anyways and only has like 3 lines.

I stopped in TWD Season 1 for that reason.

The game pretends to have a lot of branching pathways where you think that if you did something differently, you could save some other people. But no, those characters die no matter what you do and the game is really just a walking simulator with some QTE.

wouldnt say its a walking sim with qtes until about the season 2 era of the games since this still has puzzle elements but puzzles in the style of how telltale had been doing them around the time of back to the future and jurassic park (pre twd telltale). this game is what made them stagnate as their leadership tried to keep doing exactly what season 1 did but more expensive each time. source i was witnessing this first hand as i played their games over the years until they went bankrupt

The best one was Life is Strange 2, it's so bad it's good and no lesbians.

I didn't like LiS. I didn't like the gameplay, didn't like the mechanics, and I didn't find the lesbian love interest compelling or worth saving.

Good opportunity for me to ask for some clarification as I've never played any Life Is Strange game, just aware a few plot points. The big player choice everyone talks about regarding the first game is whether to save Chloe or the town, but from my vague understanding, it's also up to the player as to whether Max lezzes out with Chloe. Is that correct? Does the sequel Double Exposure then mandate Max's relationship with Chloe and/or her lesbian status? If it hasn't been dictated already, I'm mildly curious as to whether this new game is going to let you play Max straight (as in heterosexual) or if lesbian drama is going to be mandatory.
