Yeah, I don’t understand why bob’s insane delusions about some grand conspiracy against their family are so consistently ignored around here. I would argue that Chris’s father telling him that seemingly the entire world is out to get him basically his entire life is as big of a contributing factor to the narcissism as anything else.

To a slow-in-the-mind, how different is the idea that some guy in England is selling knockoff merch of your OC from the idea that the school board is somehow preventing your family from moving away from the district for some mysterious reason?

Bob is honestly an incredibly fascinating character but the farms seems to give him a huge pass because he held down a respectable job, (and, probably also because his socially conservative views,) but he’s as much of a Chandler family member as Chris and Barb. In Chris’s telling a of the godbear incident, it always seems like Bob was nearly as taken by the “revelation “ as Chris, which is incredibly funny. A random troll mashed buttons on a ‘ghetto voice’ soundboard in a prank call and Bob immediately believes it’s an actual person and becomes incredibly racist. He trusted his very stupid son to save their house from an imaginary health department threat entirely on his own. Bob has so many premium lolcow moments, arguably more than Barb, but they’re so often ignored
On the one hand I agree with you. On the other hand, Bob grew up in a different time and was well into his later years when the Internet became ubiquitous. Let's combine that with the literal fact that the internet has been gangstalking Chris for decades. In that context it's easy to see why he would think the world was out to get his family. In my opinion anyway. I don't think Bob was a great guy or a saint or anything, but to me it absolutely makes sense why Bob would think "the world" was out to get him.

Who among us *wouldn't* become a narcissist if a huge group of people became obsessed with the minutiae of every single thing we did every day?

Perhaps Chris will get into his Serial Killer phase when he get out?
He will be mad & insane enaugh by then...
Chris is way too lazy to be a serial killer. It would have to be a situation in which half dead people repeatedly fell into his lap and even then he’d stress sigh and procrastinate. He’s been a selfish horny shit with poor impulse control for decades and only just now became a rapist.

Maybe he could loser his way into a spree kill. Maybe. Mostly it would seem like too much effort.

Not to mention his need for immediate validation and gratification. He can't keep his evil deeds to himself so the police would have stepped in before his behavior gets to that point... come to think of it they did.

i think after jail he'd likely be homeless. There's a chance he might be able to go into some kind of group home, half-way house or some kind of adult special needs program. But with that being said there is a chance prison might actually help him. For once in his life he has no safe space, no one to coddle him, only people who will tell him to toughen up and grow some balls. He'll likely get a job in prison cuz there's nothing else to do. so maybe, just maybe he'll be able to get a job after prison and support himself. I seriously doubt it, like less than 0.05% chance but maybe he'll come out better.

How ironic that instead of healing his moms dementia, he heals himself. Truly a miracle.

Can't blame him, have you really expected some 80-y.o. realizing that someone could call him and play voiceclips?

He trusted his very stupid son to save their house from an imaginary health department threat entirely on his own.
Again, he probably thought that the internet is a series of tubes. Also, the threat was more than real, but sadly Health Department chose to shit itself and leave Bakers alone.

But yeah, otherwise Bob was as crazy as Barb. Like I've said, it takes an equally crazy person to live with another crazy person and be ok with it.

Bob was interested in Computers, there is a picture of him reading a C programming book in some of the Christmas pictures and networking has been a thing in computing for a long time so he knew technically what the internet was, What he was was ignorant of internet culture and exactly what Chris was doing online at the time and how that was impacting him and the family as a whole.

I think Bob knew the Health Department threat wasn't serious he was doing it to try and shock Chris with the worst kind of punishment, it's like telling a kid who wont behave in the lead up to Christmas you'll call Santa and tell him not to come if they don't stop acting up.

No, since he thought there is a way to delete something from the internet. It has nothing to do with culture.

Doesn't seem so. I mean, when Bob caught him jerking off, he told him "I am cutting that thing down" and that was it, but at that recording he looked genuinely pissed. He knew they shouldn't live that way.

Not really people think you can delete stuff all the time from the internet, Bob's experience with computers was more of a desktop environment where he thought it would be as simple as Right Click and Delete, he was aware of what the internet was as a concept but he didn't use it much if at all and thought it was more like what he was used to.

Bob's experience of computers was more akin to a solo experience, he never socialised online like Chris tried to what he did was likely email and look up things he was interested in. He had no idea that there was a internet subculture or one that would be interested in his son the way it was and it was a bit of a culture shock for him, there are people significantly younger than Bob and Barb who don't get it who are almost technically illiterate other than stabbing there fingers at a touch screen and Bob seemed to have a genuine interest in the Technology.

Oh I'm not saying he wasn't pissed at Chris, he really was and he was more than pissed at Barb both he and Chris (in his case it was a more passive aggressive moan at her being a Pack Rat) but there was little he could do he was what in his 70's when that video was filmed he knew he was nearing the end and just wanted what he could get of a quiet life to listen to music in his room (that looked to be the cleanest area of the house by a long way) and the horde Chris had invited into his home who by that point had already sent Pizza's and other things to the house he was genuinely annoyed at Chris and he was trying to get him to delete something (a reasonable course of action from his understanding) and he took his frustrations out harsher than usual on Chris and used the biggest threat he could summon up to do it.

Yes, actually, I can blame an eighty year old man for not knowing that you can record audio and play it back. And yes I can blame him for not being able to wrap his head around a one sentence summary of what the internet is.

These aren’t that out of the ordinary for an eighty year old man in the early 2000s, but you can’t really simultaneously give him all this credit for being a respectable engineer
