I know I keep saying this, but everytime someone science-y says the volcano's activity is slowing down this thing says "Kiss my ash!" and revvs up.

Edit - I just saw the words "majestic spewing" in the chat of one of the livestreams. I need to find a way to work that into every conversation I have for the rest of my life.

Looks like the lava hit a cemetery. Hope the dead people are okay.
A drone has captured the reburial:

On the one hand, not having a place anymore to visit the deceased must be a bitch, but on the other, having your remains devoured by a volcano and now being part of the island sounds pretty cool, even a bit romantic.

In the footage you can see the crematorium fuming, it’s a little creepy.

And it was the only cemetary that featured a crematorium! Whatever will they do now?
Well...I mean... 🌋 if they really wanted to...

Wind is blowing from the north to the south again, that might help a bit with the air quality. Some blue smoke earlier though, so probably more lava and sulfur fumes.

Day 71:

Bushcraft Bear is saying there is another lava flow (He streamed on a Sunday, he usually takes Sundays off)
There is a new Lavastream on the northside of the volcano! Live report. La Palma, Eruption. - 28/11/2001

Included for the thumbnail only:

Also, the text-to-speech went off while I was posting, there was an earthquake of note enough to set off the text-to-speech.

New vents, more lava, constant earthquakes... I'm exhausted just watching this thing I can't imagine the hell the people living there are going through.

I wonder.. with all this lava, that picture from The Simpsons where it looks like the southwest part of the island is missing? Maybe the northwest part just got bigger instead.

Evening Bushcraft

Also some Geology Hub reports on some other interesting non la Palma events. Is Turkey gonna assplode?

A magnitude 5 earthquake was registered this morning, the first of "pure" intensity V. Quoting the article:
In a first automatic reading, the National Geographic Institute counted two almost simultaneous seismic movements of magnitude 4.8, but, as IGN seismologist Itahiza Domínguez told Efe, one of them has been an error in reading the automatic system. A reading of two earthquakes that has been corrected, so that one of them has been eliminated and the other has been revised to magnitude 5, at 8 hours, 35 minutes and 7 seconds in the municipality of Mazo and 35 kilometers deep.

A new lava river overflows in the northern part of the volcano and threatens the town of La Laguna. The director of PEVOLCA has indicated that this lava flow will have to be monitored, but it is hoped that it will end up merging with another lava flow that circulates outside the town.

Scientists indicate that this eruption could be the longest in the last 500 years. Ten weeks after the eruption began, no short-term cessation is expected. This Saturday the volcanic activity has increased again and a new mouth has appeared, followed by explosions on the slope of Cumbre Vieja.

Well, you know, technically you just build above it and you've got yourself one heck of a basement and foundation system already there...
