On the one hand, not having a place anymore to visit the deceased must be a bitch, but on the other, having your remains devoured by a volcano and now being part of the island sounds pretty cool, even a bit romantic.

In the footage you can see the crematorium fuming, it’s a little creepy.
>The lava flow destroyed the island's only crematorium.
>only crematorium

Are you sure there's not another way to dispose of dead bodies on your volcanic island?

I heard, admittedly just rumors, but there's apparently a few 2000°F streams of lava nearby that will take months to cool down. Probably enough for a handful of dead folks, plus a nicely personalized chunk of obsidian with your family's ashes imbedded within.

Guys

Im starting to see some evidence the flank is sliding. I cant do a comprehensive writeup as i am not home till thursday butEarthquakes are intense and i am seeing strange orange puffs during the day on the slope far from the volcano that can only mean the earth is buckling. Wish we could get someone on top of that ridge to survey the ground !!!

She is as violent as ever. Today was the worst day ever in terms of earthwlquakes so more magma is coming.

Also there is activity in the extinct caldera to the north!

what is a sliding flank?
i took rocks for jocks and never heard that one.
Sliding flank is one side of a geologic mass going "Fuck you, unbalanced island, I prefer the ocean floor."

I don't agree that is necessarily what's happening (prefer to wait until actual measurements of the pre-existing fissure has been shown to be growing) but, with the rise in earthquakes and constant new vents arising to the south (which @The golden neckbeard previously predicted) I'd say he probably knows a helluva lot more knowledge in the matter.

would that cause enough water displacement for the theoretical East Coast surfing time?

If the whole western side of the island dropped at once? Yeah, probably... Depends on the simulation math you use. On one hand, the east coast is fucked. On the other, the coastal shelves are technically capable of dissipating the tsunami. Personally, knowing how crazy the past three years have been I'm hedging my bets, and very glad I don't live on the east coast.

There is something like 2 dozen vents on and around the cone now.

Here's a good example of a worst case scenario. Note that most of the death and damage from Mt. St Helen's was caused by the landslide, as the entire North Side of the Mountain Fell away and became a raging torrent of kinetic energy flowing down the valleys. not the erruption itself.

I still suspect that an Atlantic Tsunami would face some pretty sharp barriers to doing much damage to the North American Coast, past the most immediate coastal regions. Between the extended Continental Shelf and the Barrier Islands, the bulk of the energy would be turned back on itself before it made principal landfall. The Hamptons , Cape Cod and similar enclaves of vermin would be wiped out. And possibly Washington DC and Baltimore. But otherwise it would be not unlike a moderate to bad hurricane, just one that hits the entire coastline at once. The Appalachians are not going to become beachfront property.

The seismicity record was broken again yesterday, registering 374 earthquakes in 24 hours. Almost all located at intermediate depths, two of them 9 kilometers from the surface.

There is a volcano in my yard”. The eruption of La Palma added a new emission point last Thursday in the yard of Amanda Melián, a neighbor of Las Manchas neighborhood. "I found out the next day from a message from my cousin," she says.
Her house is the protagonist in the famous photo of Emilio Morenatti, from Associated Press, and that snapshot has been chosen as photo of the year for the American magazine Time. Amanda hasn't liked it at all. "I have only asked for the photos from I Love The World [Canarian company that has been flying drones since the beginning of the eruption attending to neighborhood demands]. Winning an award for the misfortune of others... It can be beautiful and all you want, but it's a disgrace."

The Government of the Canary Islands ignored the scientific report of evacuation prior to the eruption in La Palma. The authorities were alerted in various meetings prior to the volcanic eruption in Cumbre Vieja by members of the Scientific Committee of INVOLCAN about "the urgency of a preventive evacuation of the population near the risk area, in anticipation of the eruption that would occur days later, in order to avoid accidents and human losses".

This is big news and I can assure you that it isn’t having the impact it should. Many residents have lost their most precious possessions because these fucking rtards were unable to warn them in time, there are people who could have died because of them, but they don't give a shit. I feel sorry for the inhabitants of La Palma, because if the situation worsens, I doubt they can count on their government.

I really do not like how this volcano is being minimized. It makes me think of when the crew on the Titanic ignored the ice warnings.

I feel like that east facing part of the island is going to slide into the ocean at any moment. I have never felt strongly about it until recently....ive always been "Oh yeah it could happen..unlikely.."

But now it seems more and more likey looking at every angle of the eruption. Its becoming apparent to me the siesmic acitivity isnt just magma, its the land buckling.
