Shameful nintendrones the fuck you mean MGS3 lost to bing bing wahoo?
MGS3 losing to BING BING WAHOO legitimate makes me hate Nintoddlers with a firey passion.
As someone that hates Nintendo, its hard to explain how much of a leap in tech and gaming Mario 64 was. You had to be there to experience it.
If you look at it now, its just a basic bitch 3D platformer, but at the time it was a complete revolution - it set the blueprint to all other 3D platformer games to come for years and years.

No other time in gaming history were we making more innovation than the late 1990s when devs were experimenting with 3D. Everyone was dogshit at it. To give you a frame of reference, the games that were competing with Super Mario 64 were Crash Bandicoot, Gex, Bubsy 3D and Croc. Watch gameplay of ANY of the competition side by side and it's not even fucking close.

I'm not just talking about graphics either - The freedom of movement of Mario, the camera controls (yes, believe it or not, the camera was GREAT for the time), the amount of content and finally, it was just fun to play. Nintendo completely cracked the formula of how to make a good 3D game. Then 1 year after they made the same miracle happen with Ocarina of Time. You can hate Nintendo all you want (trust me, I do, especially with the recent shit that is going on), but its hard to deny their influence in gaming.

That's not to say that MGS3 was bad, on the contrary, it was insanely good. But I would argue it didn't revolutionized much - it was just a very well crafted game when Kojima was probably at his highest point. It came at the (arguably) golden age of gaming when we had a ton of choice for good games.

Anyway, this competition is always a meme because its hard to equate some games that changed the course of gaming forever versus games that were just very good and fun to play. Its hard to evaluate these side by side. If we go by this metric, then Pong has to be the best game ever because we wouldn't have the gaming industry without it.

Also you don't have to hate me because I don't vote on this thread, I think this competition is idiotic without pairing games up per categories. This is just a boomer popularity contest.
