At least they're both worthy this time, RE4 only less so because it set the franchise on the wrong path, but as a game it's great.
Ok I was about to complain for picking gen 1 games instead of either my favourite games Gold/Silver/Crystal or one of the gen 4 trios that are considered the absolute peak of the series (Platinum/Explorers of sky/Gen 2 remakes) but I have one argument to present for gen 1 games:Pokemon red and blue
I'm not mad, I support Resi. Kind of had a feeling it would win tbh.At least they're both worthy this time, RE4 only less so because it set the franchise on the wrong party, but as a game it's great.
It's 3luv me 4 discs
Majora's Mask feels to me the same way Resident Evil 3 feels in comparison to Resident Evil 2. Definitely the same series and same people but it just feels like a quick and dirty sequel.None of these I feel too strongly over.
Portal I was a little surprised to see.
Portal gun is cool and all, but it isn't too unique a concept.
Granted neither is pokemon.
The execution is good though of both though...
Majora's mask I think is a great side piece for a zelda, but is it really a GOAT?
im voting portal because its fucking peakTypical Zelda fags. I'm voting Portal because fuck you Nintendies.
I'd argue it was the other way round. FF7 is only remembered for its music and characters; in terms of gameplay all it really did was take the old formula into the third dimension.RE4 had its days, but the influence of FF7 seems to be eternal. For better or worse.
Gen 2 is better but gen 1 is more iconic and still really good, so I think it belongs here.Ok I was about to complain for picking gen 1 games instead of either my favourite games Gold/Silver/Crystal or one of the gen 4 trios that are considered the absolute peak of the series (Platinum/Explorers of sky/Gen 2 remakes)
I love that shit actually lolFuck trade evolutions, fuck event giveaway pokemons and fuck version exclusivity.
Same, I figured it'd win. I love FF7 too, even if it ain't my favorite FF (FFX).I'm not mad, I support Resi. Kind of had a feeling it would win tbh.
Love me og ff7
That's actually a pretty good point. I would lean towards for worse, however.I'd argue it was the other way round. FF7 is only remembered for its music and characters; in terms of gameplay all it really did was take the old formula into the third dimension.
RE4 defined the third-person shooter formula the same way Mario 64 did for 3D platformers (still for better or worse).
Of course you like it, you have a pink triangle.I love that shit actually lol
I hate the idea of popularity > genuine quality, especially in a "best game ever" thingy. I agreed that there's merit in saying gen 1 deserves to be on top due to its unique status, but i disagree on giving popularity a value.Gen 2 is better but gen 1 is more iconic and still really good, so I think it belongs here.

It depends, but I generally agree. If you're a zoomer you won't get it, but Pokemania directly contributed to how fun it was to be into the franchise as a whole at the time when we were kids. It's different than, like, Sonic being popular, its popularity didn't directly contribute to how fun it was to play like it did for Pokemon.I hate the idea of popularity > genuine quality, especially in a "best game ever" thingy. Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden (60 votes) vs. Halo 3 (179 votes)
I tend to give at least a small bonus for historical significance, but for a "best of" list how it feels (or would feel, in the case of a dead multiplayer game) to play today takes top priority. When I assess the historical significance of an artwork, I ask myself one question: how does this affect me, personally?
One can argue that the humor is quite dated (very "2012 le epic that just happened"), but Portal was a revolutionary puzzle game and Portal 2 is an excellent refinement. It gets my vote over the brother of the most overrated game of all time. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask [2000] vs. Portal 2 [2011]
I imagine a certain someoneMetal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (158 votes) vs. Sonic 3 & Knuckles (63 votes)
