I'm 100% in, I'm a fan of zines and make both my own and contribute to others', do some comic work professionally, do demented crayon drawings while slightly drunk, etc...
It will be very helpful to have a set theme in mind but it doesn't have to be a very specific one, it can be something simple that helps contributors narrow down their idea.

I'd also agree that we should have a No-AI policy, even if you're not the best artist you can still make something fun. You can say it's "subversive outsider art" or something like that
Ive juggled with themes like "terminally online" "unnecessary lessons learned by internet idiots" but more generally I am thinking stories that revolve around things in the forum culture or internet weirdness that literally couldn't or wouldn't be published anywhere else, from making fun of internet subculture groups to biographical shorts of a lolcow arc, to just plain avant garde weirdness. There is an anthology called Now that I dig, and even though it can be extremely transgressive, it is still extremely in the safe liberal zeitgeist. I want a farms version of Now.

Yea, no AI is crucial, I am not gonna put tens of hours into something that someone else is just gonna do prompts for. Pick up a pencil, nerds!

I am not an artist (experience with JP TL and QC/PR for weeb animoonga though), but my bf is a former illustrator who's been published before with works in Edward Gorey/Crumb influences to children's books all the way to takes on illuminated manuscripts and ukiyo-e. I shall ask if he'd be willing to contribute a few pages of something under a pseudonym. He only draws for fun now so this might catch his eye.

ETA: He's interested! Will decide once the guidelines are in place.

Ah okay, I wasn't certain if this was intentionally set to be complete at the immediate turn of the year.
I've suggested 3 months from now for scripts and 8 months (minimum) from now for art. Again, @liam dees hasn't been active since 2:30 so I don't know where he's standing on all my guidelines and submission call, but I've written em all out. I've done a ton of anthology work so it's all second nature to me and I understand the pitfalls and burnout of projects like these.

If anyone has questions about craft or anything, feel free to ask me here.

Comic dimensions are a 2:3 ratio, I work at 10" by 15" and then shrink it down 67%. I would suggest a similar approach digital or traditional.

Character design examples. My hit designs are both Mutt-san and the Kiwi-tan revamp.

Bro has college or whatever, different time zone too so i’d wait it out
It was Saturday yesterday so I stayed up till 2am watching YouTube then knocked out until 1 hour ago lmao, sorry for the late responses fellas.

I'm gonna be working on the Open Call 2025 thread now. Answering just a few more questions before I go off to do that.

Is Pixel Art OK?
Yes. Any style is fine as long as you did it yourself and it looks cool.

I'm setting the schedule to start from December 2025 till May 2026 with the anthology's release being on June 2026, as a Summer Issue. The pending title of this anthology will be "KiwiComicJam Anthology: Adventures of A Kiwi". Hopefully this schedule is amenable to more of you guys.

Wow that's cool, an artist inspired by Crumb... Say, does he know of Johnny Ryan and Peter Bagge?

Ok that was a bit off topic, but yeah I am really surprised by all of the enthusiastic responses. I am really confident now that this Comic Jam could be a success! Thank you all for pitching in - I'll see you in the Official Comic Jam thread, as well as on Community Features. (I was debating whether to put this thread there yesterday - guess it paid off!)

Yep, we good. I dont keep track of other farmers daily schedules, but you go radio silent on a weekend midday I start thinking you're a jeet, ykwim? Jk

Logos are looking fun btw
I'm not a Jeet, I'm a chink, which is still terrible lol.
