I can't imagine that everyone who suffers from it is living as a Boglim in a filthy trailer... right?
Can we stop with the Clint Bad Dad? That's where this always turns. The man loved his son more than any of us might ever realize, even if he was weak and didn't instill Josh with everything he needed. Josh ended up in a trailer (that wasn't filthy when he moved in) because A-Logs and NAL got him thrown out of his apartments. Reddit literally went after him and his jobs - excepting the one that he quit as a dishwasher, several years before. They got him kicked out of bars he used to frequent for company. I don't remember what kind of fit he had, but got himself banned from Albertsons- the one viable store that he would no longer ride bike to go get groceries from because Clint and Tannis brought him a car package at least bi-weekly in the early days. It's when he'd do his cooking videos and waste a week's worth of food for one abhorrent meal.
Josh was diagnosed with a learning disability early, poor eyesight, bad lungs, and the problem of both sets of his parents genes. Usually a kid grows out of ODD, or turns into a murderer. Josh, well, he still fought doing things he didn't want to do, but the worst he did was kill a bug and a lizard, despite the fact he had audible hallucinations. That shit's scary in retrospect.
I can't imagine the pain he went through with people fucking with him 24/7. I had some bad neighbors who went out of the way to be obnoxious, but that didn't even last 2 years. Still, I lost plenty of sleep, had to put cameras and locks on the house that I never expected, et al. This happened to Josh daily, for years.
He curled up as an alcoholic hermit because it was safe. He could still goon to chaturbate (or OF, I don't remember), get drunk as hell, and make the day go by faster when he was passed out and not embracing it. He learned from those around him that it's safer to just cut off yourself from the world than it is to allow yourself to be hurt by it.
Clint mentioned that some guy was tormenting Josh for his clothing coming out of a bathroom. I mean, he looked goofy- but the poor guy couldn't get a break- but he still kept being Josh.
We failed Josh in many, many ways. Were he not an adult and technically capable of taking care of himself (he was during the Stephanie arc), he probably would have done well in a strongly structured environment.
