freedom of speech doesnt protect you from it's consequences

hey maybe you want to live in a safespace, but this is the real world man
Pay more attention mate, we are all familiar with the badly argued and vacuous tumblr slogans you keep mimicking, and on top of that we already have people capping them and linking them from tumblr, so there's no need for you to shit up the thread by writing them out.

show me where an employer isn't allowed to punish/sack/fire etc an employee or contractor for views stated on social media, in england or america

until then shut the fuck up about it somehow being a "tumblr slogan" because i get it man, everything you dislike is tumblr but this is the real world we're talking about it if you write or say stupid shit an employer can deal with you how they want, this is a private company not the fucking government

See, it's pretty obvious what's happening here is that you have your panties in a twist about jontron for some reason, maybe he fucked your mum or something? So you are rejoicing at him getting taken out of the game, claiming that 'freedom of speech doesnt mean freedom from consequences' the same way every dense sjw cunt does when people bitch about freedom of speech they don't like. But you see, as has been pointed out in this thread multiple times, right now the salt is springing from the way playtonic handled letting go of jontron, and people asking them about it. They handled it poorly, and they are copping the backlash, because freedom of speech doesnt mean freedom from consequences hyuk hyuk.

But hey man, I'll get right on that request of yours and show you where it says an employer can't fire someone for their views, but you first sport - point out where I said an employer wasn't allowed to fire someone for their views? Oh what's that, nowhere, fucking no one has said that in this thread?

And the the piece de resistance, "this is a private company, not the government" - as if we needed any more proof that your just a tumblrina parroting the same old dumb and wrong talking points. You, like every other snowflake, have confused freedom of speech, an abstract human right which encompasses every single form of communication, with the first amendment, which protects private citizens from having their speech infringed upon by the government. Don't worry man, I get it, until I actually thought for a single second that xkcd comic you read made sense to me too. But it doesn't apply, and the involvement of the government has absolutely fuck all to do with this issue, except to demonstrate that you think exclusively in tumblr slogans.

Digital AIDS sites like Polygon and Kotaku would've cried out in unison with Neogaf. They're the kind of worthless sacks of shit that launch witch hunts when non-black voice actors play black video game characters (and never say a word when the opposite happens). They live for petty garbage like this. That's why I don't necessarily agree that this response was the right thing to do. Those that know better are aware those sites are lost causes. JonTron isn't a rapist. He isn't a murder. He isn't telling people to kill all the Jews. The game isn't branded with his face on it and he's not the star. By throwing a fit over this, Playtonic has made it so that any time someone associated with them says something Kotaku/Polygon/Neogaf/Vice/Gamerghazi disagrees with, the response has to be immediate dismissal.

Again, new studio with a good chunk of its staff being new or just out of uni with this as their first professional project. They're probably still stupid enough to feel those cesspits have the kind of influence they used to have pre-GG.

I'm going to guess those Steam and Reddit posts are just taking the piss. Besides, you know the immediate response from the type that actually thinks like that is going to be how they're racist for not having more people there in the first place.

As said, the note itself is factually accurate, but there's the stats at play behind it, they recruit most of their staff from the University of Derby, which has an ethnic population of 18,000.

If a prostitute defending child pornography while working for Nintendo didn't make a single mainstream tabloid, why would this? Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think Yooka Laylee is going to be the next kids sensation. I'm almost certainly giving the mainstream media too much credit, but I'd also like to believe they're sensible enough to know this isn't a story worth running. JonTron isn't a household name and he recorded his minor bit years before saying anything offensive. The game was finished right before this controversy broke. What are the developers supposed to do? Take all the copies back because a minor character in an unrecognizable voice was played by some guy who said some dumb things on the internet?

Which would probably have flown Pre-Trump as it did with Alison Rapp. Post-Trump the MSM is looking for anything to beat people over the head with, look at how PewDiePie got Mainstream shitflinging for his pranks on the stupid website where you pay people to hold up whatever sign you want.

As I've said repeatedly, what they've done is dumb but I can at least see the panicked logic behind it all. Both studios together barely constitute 100 people and those in charge of the social media and marketing wing are basically the same person. Most of the founders are middle managers from Rareware who probably wouldn't have realised what a tightrope the Sharper Brothers walked along for all those years. Which is a shame.

How does the BBC get away with running job applications that in no uncertain terms request that if you're white, male, or the dreaded combination of the two, that you need not apply?

Because the street doesn't run both ways yet, and the BBC basically is a law unto itself which doesn't so much need reform as actively purging.

They weren't employment positions but training/internship positions. Also the Equality Act has two sections that allow for protection characteristics (age, disability, race, sex, etc.) can be taken into account during recruitment if it's proportionate to reducing under-representation of that characteristic. They probably have a good argument for it not being proportionate but tribunals are expensive.

Not sure about England, but in America.

Brandenburg v.Ohio
Facts of the case

Brandenburg, a leader in the Ku Klux Klan, made a speech at a Klan rally and was later convicted under an Ohio criminal syndicalism law. The law made illegal advocating "crime, sabotage, violence, or unlawful methods of terrorism as a means of accomplishing industrial or political reform," as well as assembling "with any society, group, or assemblage of persons formed to teach or advocate the doctrines of criminal syndicalism."

Conclusion
The Court's Per Curiam opinion held that the Ohio law violated Brandenburg's right to free speech. The Court used a two-pronged test to evaluate speech acts: (1) speech can be prohibited if it is "directed at inciting or producing imminent lawless action" and (2) it is "likely to incite or produce such action." The criminal syndicalism act made illegal the advocacy and teaching of doctrines while ignoring whether or not that advocacy and teaching would actually incite imminent lawless action. The failure to make this distinction rendered the law overly broad and in violation of the Constitution.

It doesn't take long enough to know your history. Even if you're a plain racist, your right to spread 'hate speech' is still protected. It doesn't mean you can incite violence to a particular group. Not once had Jontron promoted violence against a person of color nor discriminated anyone in public. Even if he meant any of what he said, he still hadn't advocated violence whatsoever which is illegal.

I used to rather like Spinosauruskin, but he's been going further and further off the rails recently. He'll turn into another hbomberguy if he's not careful:

It's a shame that Yooka-Laylee became the battleground for an autistic slapfight between NeoGAF and 4chan. While this is at least somewhat deserved for disrespecting their customers and siding with the chronically offended, it hurts to have the spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie tainted this way. It's easy to think of the company as a singular "they", but as far as I can tell most of this is the fault of one or two dangerhairs at the bottom of the food chain who couldn't pass up a chance to show those dang dirty GamerGoobers who is boss. I feel for the RareWare veterans who just want to make good video games.

Then again, this whole mess is fucking delicious and I can't wait to see how much worse it can get.

Could've saved that $96,000 if they hadn't caved in to a whiny minority that wants a witch hunt against Jon.

Seriously, who would've noticed his grunts if Playtonic kept him in? Neogaf might've bitched and moaned, but who cares?

Well, here's to hoping a Hat in Time doesn't going down this path.

But seeing how the game's developer Jonas Karlaev has had trouble with SJWs in the past, I have hope.

It seems like that figure has fluctuated a lot since the games been in development, so i think we should wait a little while to make any conclusions.

We're unlikely to ever get a real figure from this. Not unless Playtonic and Team 17 release figures at least.

It's interesting to note by the way that almost all of the fuck-ups in this scandal have been at the hands of Team 17 - the publisher - and not Playtonic itself. Team 17's the one responsible for modding the Steam Forum and its staff are also the ones who were openly shit-talking both Jon and the backers on Twitter before they stealthmoded.

Just went to the JonTron subreddit, it is currently an extension of the politics subreddit, with "punch le nazis roflmao" and all.
