Digital AIDS sites like Polygon and Kotaku would've cried out in unison with Neogaf. They're the kind of worthless sacks of shit that launch witch hunts when non-black voice actors play black video game characters (and never say a word when the opposite happens). They live for petty garbage like this. That's why I don't necessarily agree that this response was the right thing to do. Those that know better are aware those sites are lost causes. JonTron isn't a rapist. He isn't a murder. He isn't telling people to kill all the Jews. The game isn't branded with his face on it and he's not the star. By throwing a fit over this, Playtonic has made it so that any time someone associated with them says something Kotaku/Polygon/Neogaf/Vice/Gamerghazi disagrees with, the response has to be immediate dismissal.

If a prostitute defending child pornography while working for Nintendo didn't make a single mainstream tabloid, why would this? Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think Yooka Laylee is going to be the next kids sensation. I'm almost certainly giving the mainstream media too much credit, but I'd also like to believe they're sensible enough to know this isn't a story worth running. JonTron isn't a household name and he recorded his minor bit years before saying anything offensive. The game was finished right before this controversy broke. What are the developers supposed to do? Take all the copies back because a minor character in an unrecognizable voice was played by some guy who said some dumb things on the internet?

I hate being "that guy," but for completeness' sake, let's go there.

If Jon had been openly racist against whites, there wouldn't have been any blastback. Not from the press or the outrage factories, at least.

We've all seen how sites like NeoGAF work by now: you're allowed to be openly racist - as long as it's against the right ethnicity.

You want to remove a voice actors from your game? Fine, do it but expect backlash. Behaving like a bunch of braindead monkeys makes it worse. Playtonic and Team17 are one giant lolcow at this point.

Boogie tried that, spoke up, was moderate in tone. Then people shat on him, so he ran away and shut his gob. Now everyone considers him to be spineless, because he's too worried about popularity, or subscribers, or sponsors, or harassment, or losing friends to speak his mind. No one respects anyone who can't at least stand by their opinion.

Considering JonTron's voice work in this is just grunting, much as how stupid it would be to protest because his voice was removed, so too is getting offended over what amounts to JonTron making grunting sounds. Much as his opinions could hurt Playtonic due to association, getting offended over a grunting sound from a YouTube celebrity is just autistic in of itself.
