One of the things I look at when we're gonna start hiring is I like to say we're gonna just Show us what you can do, we'll pay you for the day and we'll put you under. A waiver. So you can't sue us. I'd rather have that than people just bold faced lie to me about what they can and can't do.
Also, people who have really long resumes, I just put in the trash because most of the time it's bullshit.
But when I was still looking for jobs, when the most annoying things is people kept giving me job offers for things. That I really somewhat was qualified for, but were way out of my field. One of them was a job offer for an account manager at a marketing firm, but it was like. An hour and a half away from my house. And I don't know why I couldn't just do that job remotely.

>accept offer from company for $5-6 pay raise and experience in the industry
>offers from jobs I applied to 2-3 months ago roll in
>still during my last two weeks at my old job
>take the interviews
>get offers to fly out to tour facility during first two weeks at new job

I am going to rat fuck/ snake bite these people. I feel bad, but there is that appeal of almost six figures even if I have to move cross country at a Fortune 500.

One of them I am actually trying to see if I want to take it as it’s a crappy shift, but it’s a big company.

I moved from 70K up to 140K. By switching companies. Once.
I am in STEM so it’s basically getting in an industry where for national or state security foreigners can’t take jobs. Surprisingly it’s actually not as competitive, the hours suck but the resume looks good. Foreigners really do ruin shit though.

Once you can get a QC job in biology or chemistry or materials at a midsized company, you basically start your actual career. Typically you can actually start not being poor after like 2 years.

Are cover letters even necessary for job applications anymore now that applications are online based? I just don't want to create more work for me if I do not have to just to be rejected. What career path require cover letters on top of resumes?

In my experience it depends on the job, flipping burgers or data entry doesnt really require any. But if you don't have the experience they're looking for or the job is a bit more involved it helps. Application portals tend to have a(n optional) space where you can upload a cover letters.

I use a chatbot to generate one based on my application and the job I am applying to. I then edit it down.

Entry to mid level jobs are so so, higher level yes because boomers will actually sometimes read them.

Should i put my current employer on my resume or just tank the gap?
Ive been working here for a couple of months but im not meshing well with the way they do things and ive never silently hunted for jobs before.
If i just didnt include it at all it’d be a 6 month gap but im in tech so that’s normal now and the amount of insane fuckery in the job industry spooks me. Like with my luck id start applying for a new trend of “industry snitching” to emerge.

Do A/B testing with your applications and report back.

What’s A/B testing?
Send out half your resumes with the new job, half without, and compare results.

Another example of A/B testing would be something like having one resume that has your name be something like "Bobby Soandso" and another as "Robert Soandso" and see if you hear back more often as "Bobby" vs "Robert".

I've never used cover letters whatsoever in my entire career. Especially in carpentry, we don't even really write things down. Let's do measurements.

I've never used cover letters in my entire professional career, and I'm Gen-X. Typically if an employer wants a cover letter, it will say so in the advertisement, but I'll concede that it could vary from industry to industry.

my boss is starting to fuck me over and says im not doing enough at work, even though he's not assigning me anything to do even when i explicitly tell him "i don't have enough to do please give me more". going to start spitting out resumes on indeed for any remote IT position because i never ever want to sit in an office again. or maybe i'll just go full degen and start getting good at options trading.

Per cover letters, if the job requires a college degree, you'll want one. If it doesn't, you'd be better off with a firm handshake and matching the politics of the hiring manager.

This works btw. This is how I got my current job. I didn't hear a response for 2 weeks and I emailed the person responsible (now my boss) for any updates.
Never give up, kiwis.
I've had the "two weeks" game and then they say they've picked someone else.
Indeed is pretty shit too. I've had times where I would apply for Indeed and the interviewer wouldn't even expect me because I guess they don't check if someone has set up a schedule through there.
The best thing when doing Indeed is to actually look up what company is hiring. If they can't tell you the name of the company or a location, don't bother, it's a scam or some other bullshit.

just find a recruiter and work with them. if you don't get their 20% salary fee yourself in your 2nd year at the company, or it otherwise sucks, cut and run to a job not trying to fuck you.
I've had terrible luck with employment agencies. There was one where I straight up told them my qualifications and then for a period of over maybe a year they texted me twice about potential opportunities, one of which was loading Christmas trees for $15 an hour in a town an hour away. One day only, limited spots. No thanks.
