This need to show how good you are by doing something really grates me. All he had to say was "my views still haven't changed" but noooooo, he had to talk about it being a torture and how most people wouldn't watch 5 seasons of a show they don't like.
You know, Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein, had the same problem with her husband. The original version of the book was very easy to read and felt truly like a story by a man telling someone what happened in his life. Then, her husband wrote a second version of the book that was filled to the brim with purple prose. He had that writer thing where they overcomplicate things and stretch everything and make books unreadable. Just showing how many words he knows and how much better writer he is than his wife (he really isn't). I think Jello is a lot like that man, just a pretentious prick that takes fifty words to say things you can say with ten.

And then there are times when it's obvious he WANTS to say something, but realizes that doing so would get him in trouble
No "It looks interesting, maybe I'll check it out later", and no "It looks stupid. Horror movies are stupid, I'm so cool, etc"
He knows he can get away being an asshole about Adventure Time because it was made by a heartless, soulless studio, so he can claim to be "smart" or "different" about not liking it big name slop, and people would support him. That is the thing about polygamous intimacy. Eventually, you find out that you like one more than the others. Chemistry, interests, anything really. I doubt that anyone would choose Jello as their one-and-only when there are far more pleasant options.

In media, whenever a writer wants to quickly establish that two characters love each other, but are too lazy to write the relationship from the beginning, they just have them act awkward, blush, or say/think mushy stuff about the other person. It's especially prevalent in LGBTQ relationships where they want to establish a character as gay as fast as they can, so they have them act nervous around people of the same gender, and call it a day. It's a very flat portrayal of "Love" that boils it down to acting mushy and wanting to have sex.
