'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked in possible hate crime

“Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

Man, the CPD is pissed. I don't blame them a bit, but holy Christ why did they think that just shoving this under the rug and locking the door behind them was ever going to work. This case was way too high-profile for that, people were going to notice.

Because cocaine damages the part of your brain that lets you learn from your mistakes, so the Democrat machine thinks that if something worked for them back in the seventies or whatever there's absolutely no reason they can't keep doing it forever.

This is just another example in the long string of high profile cases that have ended up being completely botched by the legal system. Brock Turner, Freddie Gray, Ethan Couch, Casey Anthony, OJ Simpson, Rodney King, etc. Shit like this has been happening for a long time. The only difference here is that we actually have politicians and the police themselves speaking out about how blatantly corrupt this is.

And it's for that reason that I don't think Jussie's getting away with it that easily. I have a feeling that the FBI is going to at least try to do something.

Idk man, Brock Turner did serve jail time and is on the sex offender registry list for life for what amounts to basically drunken foreplay during which one of the two wasted, horny spergs passed out (yes, I know this is controversial but I rest my case).

In comparison, Jussie Smollett gets jack shit for a way less debatable crime with no extenuating circumstances.

She was unconscious, was covered in abrasions, had dry blood on her hands and elbows, and there was evidence of both physical and penetrative trauma. And they were behind a dumpster.

That's not drunken foreplay.

We have an indication, but not a guarantee, that Empire will keep him on. But I do have to say that there's no way he'd be turned away from porn. His notoriety would make him more attractive to them, not less.

But he won't be doing porn any time soon - it seems his current job is happy to have him back. And despite how his co-workers may feel about how he dealt with the whole situation, or the fake anthrax that he mailed to their offices, it's apparently more important to support the person who tried to inflame race relations, because he was doing it from 'the right side of history'.

Actually he wasn't even convicted of rape.

But my point is, what happened between the two was both were very drunk, there is disagreement on whether there was consent, both too drunk to reliably remember, and the dude is charged with sexual assault.

Turner and the woman had attended the same party that night and were intoxicated; Turner’s blood-alcohol level was double the legal limit at the time, and the woman’s was three times the legal limit. Turner admitted to engaging in sexual contact with the woman, but said she had given consent. The victim testified that she had no memory of the assault, and in her statement last week said she loses sleep “when I think about the way it could have gone if the two guys had never come.”

On the other hand, a famous person named Amy Schumer bragged about the time she, while not drunk off her ass, was fooling around with a dude who was drunk off his ass. During the fooling around, during which she gleefully reported he was unable to perform, he ended up passing out. Schumer then bragged about shoving a dildo up his ass.

And yet, one is a sexual predator for life, and one gets to keep not being funny and being smug and annoying. The only difference is the genders. Neither case involved a penis going into a vagina either, something people don't seem to be able to remember about the Brock Turner case.

To be honest, just going off what I can find, I tend to think Brock Turner's story is probably false. He deserved to get in serious trouble.

Why isn't amy schumer in any trouble though?

And here's Jussie, not in any trouble after this massive hoax, and who seriously thinks if some white dudes had just happened to be on one of those cameras, he would have said "Oh shit I don't want to get anyone in trouble, sorry, I made the whole thing up"? Bullshit, he would have run with it and the media would have joined him in destroying those two theoretical white dudes.
