'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked in possible hate crime
By Sandra Gonzalez, CNN

Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

Nope, back in the frying pan you go, Jessie.
I'm not optimistic, but I hope they absolutely fuck him up the ass. Couldn't happen to a better man. I could see serious insubordination and police failing from CPD if he doesn't face consequences of at least criminal conviction and lengthy house arrest on a fed charge.

Why the fuck would you give a shit about investigating anything in Chicago as a cop right now, when even something as high profile as this proves you putting your life, career, and reputation on the line doesn't amount to anything. It was a perfect case to prosecute to send a message to not waste resources of an overburdened police force. Morale has to be absolute shit there. If I was a cop there, I wouldn't bother investigating anything except rapes and murders. Why bother?

I think the fallout from that faggot is going to cause a lot of pain for a lot of people. And what did he say? It was one of the worst times of his life and he just wants to get back to work. The guy should be ashamed to look anyone in the eye ever again, IMO.

People like Kim Foxx are actually a big reason for that. Unless it is rape or murder, if you are identified as underprivileged their offices can simply decide not to prosecute. And then there is nothing the police can do, because that is actually the prosecutors' call.

It's a huge problem when ideologues get anywhere with decision-making power. As soon as they get in, decisions start being made based on personal biases. Unless you can prove outright quid pro quo corruption, which is very difficult, there is nothing that can be done.

Looks like the CPD union are asking the feds to try, at least. But it is a pretty sad state of affairs. Watched some video of Foxx today. She's dumb as a fucking post.

Everyone like Foxx is either dumb as a post who got there by ticking off the correct thought boxes, or smart people like Hillary Clinton who know how to fake it when needed.

Kamala Harris, for example, falls on the latter end.

Reminder that chicago has the mayor runoff election in a week or so. The option are a black woman married to a white guy or a black woman married to another black woman. I wouldn't be surprised if both of them made calls to foxx and asked for this to be dropped.

I mean, it is technically incorrect to say that Kim Foxx made the decision.

She delegated that to Joe Magats... who she probably knew would make decisions should would make anyway.

That's how people like Foxx get away with controversial decisions, simply say they're not the ones whose name appears on it. Can't call them on it then!

Not necessarily. There is one kind of "justice" that can befall anyone should they piss off their fellow man sufficiently enough, but polite society has gotten better at putting a lid on it and discouraging people from doing it. For now. This is why it's important to have the guilty (especially the blatantly guilty) face consequences, so that law and order can prevail and keep people and their primal urge for extra-judicial actions in check. Sure one obscene miscarriage of justice isn't going to make everything boil over; but if it happens too often and in such plain view of everyone then that changes.

The justice system exists solely because we're what SJWs think we aren't: animals. Society keeps us in line with rules and regulations because it provides us comfort. The Justice system assures us if we've been wronged, the guilty will be punished. The justice system is there to prevent us from going out and seeking revenge. The problem is when the justice system is so shot through with corruption that being comfortable and people wronging us are being viewed as no longer being punished, we resort to our own revenge. Or that the system is so weak it doesn't serve to protect you or anyone.

Corruption for the wealthy and famous has been viewed as inevitable for some time. The only shocking thing about this is all happening out in the open. There's 0 reason for that record to be sealed. That's proof alone of his guilt. If you can't air the evidence in the open, you're guilty of something. There's a very very very small chance he flipped on his lawyer, who is a co-conspirator in the Avenetti nonsense. So in return for a little information they got the whole thing to go away. Again, dubious.

I think the fallout from that faggot is going to cause a lot of pain for a lot of people. And what did he say? It was one of the worst times of his life and he just wants to get back to work. The guy should be ashamed to look anyone in the eye ever again, IMO.

The out-of-touch celebrities will tout him as a hero and give him the victimhood he desires because in their mind, this clears him of all suspicion. For the rest of the country, for the CPD, yeah, nah. Everyone with a fucking brain knows what happened here. The wheels were greased, politicians got involved, people were paid, favors were exchanged. To me, its shocking they did it on such a scale and out in the open. To make 16 felony counts disappear without a trial just doesn't happen without something going on in the background.

The only silver lining is that nobody is going to trust hate crimes anymore. Everyone is going to doubt them. Especially when they involve celebrities. And black people especially.

There's actually two: pissing off other rich people with better connections than you.

See: Martin Shkreli, Bernie Madoff for examples.

Well, that's the general rule. Don't rob other rich people. Just rob a lot of poor and the public. You'll never be punished.

I kinda quibble with this. They think we're all animals, look at how they talk about the need to teach truckers how to code, or how to teach men not to rape.

It's why they do the Twitter mob shaming thing, they figure if they yell at the dog enough, the dog will slink off.

It's her office, Foxx was already criticized for keeping it in office after the recusal, and is part of the investigation against her. Despite this the Smollet case is not mentioned once on her Wikipedia article. It's typical whitewashing as usual for the admins.

Well yeah, it is fundamentally dishonest to act as if Foxx had no input in the decision.

If you know your boss wants something done, them recusing themselves from the decision will not stop you from pleasing your boss.

I'm just saying that this is how partisan bureaucracies work, and it is an insult to everyone's intelligence that they pretend otherwise. Kind of shows how seriously they take their constituents.

And this shows that the system needs a massive reset. What do they think will happen? This will be forgotten? That now some scumfuck won't be emboldened by the leniency (like the justice system has done for almost half a century) and hurt some other innocent? Some old lady being victimized daily will have any faith that she is legally protected and call for help, and instead just gives up defeated , and continues to get victimized? I think I'm getting old and from a different age, but back in the seventies, the left held the exact opposite view of how to approach things.

I think you're right. It will be revenge rather than a solution. And I think it's because they think they understand how people work, paradoxically because they DON'T know how people work. They expect the power to make people slaves, but it will make people lash out. And what a waste. All they have to do is exactly the opposite of what they are doing to improve things.

I can't say I know anything, but I was becoming politically aware in the late sixties/early seventies as a kid. I don't think we've been in a powderkeg like we are today. It honestly wouldn't surprise me that Jussie Smollett was the spark that leads to massive amounts of suffering and blood. I don't get how these corrupt fuckers are not restrained. Foxx needs an investigation. Voters are clearly not up to correcting it at that level of government, so hmmm... the feds? Not optimistic.

Yep. It kills rape allegations as well.

I get the feeling I'm probably a bit younger than you, but even I feel like this. I honestly can't remember the last time a news story has made me legitimately angry, but the more I think about this forced abortion of Justice I can't help myself. I'm not retarded, I know that corruption is everywhere and quite standard.

But to be so fucking blatant about it? To show so much disrespect for people that you think they're going to buy this horseshit? Felate a Saguaro cactus you fucks, that's not how this fucking country works. You have to at the least keep up appearances to keep people in line and they think that this is going to just...what? Not backfire? I honestly don't understand if they get how dangerous things like this can be. If I, or someone else, was the more radical sort of person how would I interpret this? I keep asking if they want to create racists because if they do. I feel like I'm plotting out some crazy conspiracy in my head where they're trying to create the racists they say already exist so they can then fight them, not realizing how insane that is.

Well, what are the people going to do about it?

Not vote D? In Chicago? Please. When you're the only game in town...

Also, of course they want to create racists. If racists did not exist, what could certain NGOs fundraise on? What could politicians rabblerouse about? And on and on and on.

It's the reason that when Rs finally had the power to kill Obamacare, they refused. Success is not rewarded in politics, because people ask "What have you done for me lately?"

It's nice to know some kid can be stuck in a county jail for days for minor domestic but some dude mailing literal chemical mail threats and faking racial assault can walk away to make a political party look good.
There is still a chance the FBI could press charges over the mail threat.

One of the real bitches of this whole thing is that (and some of you may remember) there were people at the Chicago Police Department who were saying mere hours after the first charges were filed that they were worried Smollett was going to get a slap on the wrist. Their concerns were validated and I imagine now you've got some major dissension in the ranks.

The cynical part of my brain wants me to ask this question to you guys: you think it was also revenge for Trump? Or was this sort of decision in the works and therefore inevitable long before all of that news broke?

I think the Democratic shot-callers decided they couldn't have a smudge like this becoming common parlance that would taint their narrative and so once it became clear he set everything up a call was made and orders were given to bury it.

Now it's just a matter of whether or not the back half of the story reached sufficient penetration in the public consciousness. If so it won't matter that they buried it, at least for their purposes.

I'm not optimistic, though.

Dear God, this is so infuriating.

Wonder if the public would be fine with Brock Turner (remember that white Stanford swimmer that raped a girl after a night out behind some dumpsters?) were to be let out for 10k and 20 hours of community service?
And then with Stanford university tweeting out “see you soon ;)” with a screenshot of the charges being dropped.

Like, holy shit the double standards.

And (perhaps unpopular opinion) I have more sympathy for that Brock Turner guy than I do for Jussie Smollet. If anyone should get dicked in prison, it’s that latter smug, lying cunt that made up the hoax, consciously and with full knowledge of the follow-up.

Brock Turner also was guilty of the most borderline case of "rape" that is possible. Him and a girl, drunk off their asses, start fooling around in an alleyway. During this, she passes out. He claims not to have realized she had passed out.

There's a good reason the judge gave him a very light sentence, because the charges were bullshit from day 1.

EDIT: Just to play up the double standard angle a bit, going off the Brock Turner thing, that disgusting creature Amy Schumer went on a talk show and told a funny story about how one time she was fooling around with a dude who was really really drunk, and couldn't get it up, and then he passed out, so she shoved a dildo up his ass. She told this story on national television. The audience and host laughed and clapped. Somehow, charges have not been filed.

It is simply an unstated assumption that a woman cannot do anything sexually inappropriate to a man.

Pretty much all of the corporate mandatory sexual harassment training materials I have seen are about the guy being in the wrong if both parties are drunk.
