One of the worst Indy 500 races of all time. And one of the worst seasons in history as well. Zero excitement.

Kyle Larson is such a joke. Especially after everything he's said this last month. Two absolutely boneheaded mistakes, one that took Simpson and Robb out of the race.

I'm a little more bothered by the thumbs up.

Anyway, more penalties, more penalties and now we've got Detroit. Herta on pole, that should be funny.

Road America: Tons of crashes, tons of fun battles, pushing and shoving, drivers sending it, drivers beefing, strategy battles...and Palou wins on fuel mileage again. Sigh.

Yeah. The winner being the only thing you can fault about the race is not that bad. Also Santino and the beer post race, amazing.

It looks like we're about to lose another oval. Iowa ticket sales are hideous.

NASCAR's predatory shit makes me MATI and I like watching NASCAR. They had a track that they were doing nothing with, Indy and Hy-Vee promptly showed up and drew big crowds, then NASCAR promptly started their own race off that publicity, stole Hy-Vee, messed up the track with their paving and PJ1, and then gloat about it. Gateway's resisted due to being independently owned, but the NASCAR event is still sucking the crowds away from Indy. Milwaukee? Wouldn't be surprised if NASCAR starts sniffing around if it keeps drawing crowds. There are no ovals left that they can race on because they're all owned by ISC or SMI who will charge ridiculous rental fees and then not promote the race, or are Pocono, which they've stated they're never going back to. Michigan being the second-most-important race on the calendar for years and built specifically for that purpose? Who cares, amirite? Let's run that 90 degree Detroit meme circuit instead! Fantastic ratings on a TV network that's one of NASCAR's partners? NASCAR doesn't care because they get better ratings. Roger can't even use his ownership of Indy as leverage to force NASCAR to give him another oval for cheap, because if he does NASCAR will just pack up and go to IRP.

Even the lawsuit isn't going to stop this. The courts look like they're leaning toward letting NASCAR keep its monopoly, and even then they're not going to be forced to sell tracks.

What's the point of watching this series if it's just going to turn into F1.5 like Champ Car and Super Formula?

The actual racing is pretty good and it's a good place for people who have their ladder careers on holding pattern to be at. Still, having the series seen as a viable step up to F1 would be beneficial for the series.

This race sucks ass.
This season has been truly awful. Roger Penske's leadership is just embarrassing and incompetent. The small amount of hardcore fans are also delusional thinking that this series will survive another decade at this rate.

The series is nearly down to one manufacturer. NASCAR will be at four in all three of its series in a few years. They are getting to the point where the Indy 500 is the only thing that matters and nothing else draws any viewers or attention.

Just how Tony George wanted it except in a 'no no not like that' kind of way. Thankfully it's starting to look like Honda will stick around but... Though I am a big Indycar fan I think the usual predditor and Racer commentariat isn't quite pessimistic enough. Indycar should be positioned well for the future of racing, but it isn't. NASCAR should suffer from the fact that the cars they strive to look like aren't sold anymore, most notably in Chevy's case where it's just a Chevy that vaguely looks like the Camaro they used to sell. But they don't. Purpose designed racing cars should be hotter now. But not in Indycar's case. Cities appear to be vying to be the next street race for Cup. That's Indycar's domain, if they're no longer the go-to when a city government wants a downtown street race, that's bad. Ovals don't want them - half because of turnouts like first Iowa (and I supsect today's race too) but also because all the ovals are owned by NASCAR and 'company that owes their whole existence to NASCAR'. (And a couple of other reasons that would piss off mainstream Indycar fans if I said them...) F1's incredible rise in the US should lift all open wheel boats but it ain't. Only hope is: "Unlike past people running the sport, Doug Boles is not in fact retarded, give him a few years."

Iowa itself annoys me. For all the fact that it was propped up as a vanity project by a DTS-obsessed CEO of Hy-Vee, there's still the fact that it did okay and then NASCAR went 'thanks for doing our market research, we'll give it a Cup date right next to your race weekend and do an absolute abortion of a 'repave' that fucks with your cars'. Sure that might not have been their actual intent but it's what happened.

Anyway, for all that the start was meh and the end was a LITTLE gimped by the ability to pass at Iowa yesterday didn't really suck, especially towards the end. Scotty Mac's tear through the field was something to watch.

If today's a Palou romp that'll blow. I appreciate a historically great season as much as any real fan but I don't hold the delusion that it's going to keep normies tuned in. At least when Zanardi romped in CART, guy was hilarious to watch.

Chadgarden fucked over by an ill-timed pit stop when the yellow comes out for Andretti spaghetti as he's in the pits. He drives all the way to the front just on pure speed again, and then Grug blows a tire while he and Lil Dave are in the pits. Guess who benefits? Alex fucking Palou. I'm tired of this.
