I was there. I don't think they mandate more than 1 - but Race Control kept saying they had some schedule control by the TV crew so that's one factor. Another was how two cars dropped out during the formation lap. They're usually very snappy about getting it going - the TV slots now are pretty tight since it's expensive network time.
 
We're finally escaping the Palouwinslol part of the schedule...just to get another Penskewinslol 500. *sigh*
 
Herta with the 180 Tubkiller Hoop Grind in qualifying. That's one of the scarier ones I've seen in a while.

Impressive that he actually managed to avoid the bump zone today, but he's doing a fantastic job of fumbling the F1 seat that has his name on it.

Marcus Armstrong also with a huge hit in practice, had to bring out the backup car and is in bump territory. I swear, every time that guy looks fast, something stupid happens (either his fault or not). Guy is snakebitten.

Prema somehow put their rookie in the top 6 after having a tractor all weekend which is crazy. It's even crazier considering that their experienced driver went out there and was mediocre. I desperately wanted Theo to get that 2nd Prema seat, but Robby might really be the talent he was hyped as being.
 
Schwartzman is actually impressing me both with being fast - in ways that F1 ladder guys usually aren't at IMS - and also his attitude. He's like... happy to be here which is nice to see.

Listening to Armstrong at the presser. He's also a little tougher than I thought.

Usually when the press talks about the 'drama of 500 qualifying' it's a little overhyped but today delivered. Daly's last minute run was pretty epic even if he fucked it up just a little. I also love how they don't hesitate to yank you off stage with a hook mid-run if you're not going to make it late in the day.
 
TBF Shwartzman got his near-ensured Ferrari seat screwed over by geopolitics so he has no other option but to keep his head down and let the talent do the work.

His runs through the field so far this year have been impressive but I didn't expect this with zero oval experience.

Doubt he'll do that well in the race - experience matters more here, but for the team and him this is just huge.
 
Power and Newgarden sent to the back of the grid for the parts violations. Scotty Mac's wrecked car was examined and it was legal.

Holy shit, Roger just went nuclear. Tim Cindric, who everyone expected would take over the team after Roger retired, just got fired. He had to do something drastic, honestly. The optics of the team owned by the owner of the series getting caught cheating twice in two consecutive seasons, and the possibility that they've been cheating this whole time and management has turned a blind eye...yeah, they had to go, otherwise the series credibility would be in the dirt. Every other driver and team in the paddock is accusing them of being blatant cheats (even though most of them are probably cheating themselves).

My favorite driver already had his first 500 win tarnished because of the red flag controversy, and now his second one is tarnished because cheating. I'm just sad, honestly. Josef hasn't done anything to deserve the hate he gets, but now he's slapped with the cheater tag and probably will be until the end of time.

Austin Cindric's NASCAR career is probably on life support now, with Daddy being gone, he doesn't have the performance to justify staying at a top team.

I've been saying 'watch out Austin' for days now. This is truly big, and we'll have to see where all the players go from here. My coworker thinks Cindric will get snapped up by another team, I think he's too radioactive for now.

I hate to say it but Josef 100% lost me with that push to pass news conference, and not because of the crying.

Scott McLaughlin is out on the pace lap. Swerved into the wall while warming his tires.
