decaf tastes like ass, I hate it. Better to just avoid it entirely and make it a maximum once a month thing, like I already do with takeout food for example.
Just gotta have an actual backbone, which is something I could stand to develop as a general thing.
Surprisingly, I like decaf, but I "need" my caffeine so I don't have decaf.
Maybe, my parents always limited my energy drink consumption to like once a month. I never got why, they said "It's bad for you" but when I asked "why?" they would say "It just... Is.". Either way, they stopped caring now and I just have them whenever. But maybe they were onto something.
A few things I can name off the top of my head are that it can lead to heart/blood pressure issues, kidney issues if you're not drinking enough water, and if you're drinking all sorts of weird flavours I'm pretty sure those aren't good for you for various reasons. Artificial sweeteners aren't great either. As far as I know they can have some negative impact on your gut bacteria and I remember reading at some point that there might be some slightly elevated risk for certain types of cancers related to them? Of course, this all probably depends on a lot of factors like how much you are consuming, what you are consuming. For most healthy adults they're probably "safe enough", but consuming them isn't exactly healthy.
When you're a teen, or even worse a kid, energy drinks are a big no-no since they're dosed for proper adult bodies. A kid's tolerance for caffeine will be lower than an adult. And especially considering how little self control kids have with drinking sweet things, it's easy for them to overdose on the stuff and even die. There have been cases.
Wait is it really that bad? What if I drink one like once a week? I usually dilute it (do NOT judge me) and it lasts 2/3 days... I also take heart medication or blood pressure or whatever (but it's actually for my hair) so I guess I'm going to die?
As others have said, mixing energy drinks and blood pressure medication is a really bad idea. Don't do it.
Well, sometimes I have heart palpitations but it's not every day and they never catch them during exams.
Yeah I would stay away from any energy drinks if I were you.
Just like everything else in life, moderation is key.
Indeed! Although when it comes to artificial sweeteners I do believe they are just straight up bad and should be avoided.
Also when it comes to caffeine, something to keep in mind, iirc it has a half life of 4-8 hours or something, and iirc it can take a whole day to be completely processed and eliminated. So if you're consuming caffeine daily that's something to keep in mind. Have to mind your dose based on your body size and how long it takes to process so you don't end up accumulating more and more caffeine day after day. For adults a safe dosage is under 400-500mg a day. But if you're having say 300mg a day but your body is not processing all of that in a day, you could end up after a few days with more than 500mg in your body.
Caffeine also constricts blood vessels, so if you're having it daily and then quit cold turkey, as the blood vessels in your brain dilate back to their normal size you'll get nasty headaches from it.
