Even minus the twist ending where -surprise- no one actually died, it's still very mid.
I wasn't going to "spoil" that although I guess it's more of a fair warning that might spare people some disappointment. The premise means they can't even show any kills, so it's not much of a guilty pleasure.

I can't give it any credit for "doing something different" either, since it's pretty generic otherwise. It even has an unironic cat scare, with an offscreen stagehand throwing a cat at the actor's head. Nowhere but in horror movies do cats leap directly at strangers' heads. While meowing. Or at least a guy saying "meow" is foleyed in. Overall, it's a worse version of Ten Little Niggers, and it doesn't even have a slur in the title.

Slipped my mind that Slaughter High had an April Fool's connection or I'd have put that on instead for sure. It's a favorite.

April Fool's Day is a dumb, goofy movie, but it has vintage Deborah Foreman in it, so it's still absolutely worth watching in my book.
I watched it yesterday because my friend really enjoys it and wanted me to give a reassessment of it.
Overall, I enjoyed it a bit more than the first time. The twist still doesn't do much for me but the cast is fun. Honestly, a slasher doesn't really need to have amazing kills or anything if the character banter is enjoyable to me. It was nice to see Amy Steel and Biff from Back to the Future in another role.
It was interesting how it had a very obviously lesbian character in a slasher for the time and was mostly chill about it.

But honestly, it's nothing compared to Waxwork. The other Deborah Foreman film. Watched this right afterwards and HOLY SHIT.
Can't believe I slept on this one for so long. It starts as a killer wax museum movie with the dude from Gremlins being a literal cuckold until it builds up enough Fate/staynight-esque lore involving a plot to unite all the important evil figures throughout history (that somehow includes zombies and an alien) because they're needed to destroy the world... or something.
If you told me this film was going to end with a sword fight with the Marquis De Sade starting it, I would have called your bluff.
Greatest movie ever made.

I do need to give Slaughter High and Killer Party another watch though. I remember liking Slaughter High, but it also suffers from a bullshit ending like April Fools' Day. It's insane all three of these were made the same year as April Fools Day and the other two had to change their titles when the big budget one was announced.

I can't remember where I saw that on streaming a few years ago but I very much enjoyed it, and the ending with the Marquis De Sade was just so much fun.

Yeah, especially the fact that Zach Galligan almost loses his girl to him because Foreman's literally just too kinky.
I also love that 80s' look so many movies from that time had. I kind of admire how so many standalone horror movies back then decided to have deep lore even if they were 90 minute monster movies. Kind of reminds me of how epic-in-scope Demon Knight was when I first watched it. Also the movies' tounge is firmly in cheek and is always just having fun. I really want to watch the sequel now.

aw yeah I got a copy of 1978 coming down, but it's raw Spanish at the moment
it's the movie that starts out as the light-hearted adventures of people torturing commies, but SOMETHING GOES HORRIBLY WRONG

I think I might be able to get some manner of machine translation going good enough, but if anybody knows about cool sub groups to get bleeding edge captions or subs like how J-Drama communities are (or were) batshit
the name makes it insufferably challenging to search through normal means

It almost happened with Dinosaurs Attack (based on the trading cards) but the studio went with Mars Attacks instead.
I'll be honest, I could go either way with that. I do like Mars Attacks, I know it didn't follow the cards story 100%, but having giant insects and then going to Mars to kick ass would be a bit too weird and people didn't like the toned down version we got, but I have no idea how people would deal with time traveling dinosaurs that are controlled by Satansaurs.

The body horror possablilties with Dinosaurs attacks would be so much fun, like the guy that got merged with a T rex.

There's always Carnosaur and sequels. Dinosaur Exorcist. Tammy and the T-Rex.

Also The Rule of Jenny Pen has Geoffrey Rush and John Lithgow, who are certainly dinosaurs. Hey-yo. Tip your waitresses, I'll be here all week.

I heard VLC had an AI translator thing.
yeah I'm not sure what's the current hotness but I've MTL-if-ied things once or twice so I know it _can_ be done, I think my chromebook said something about it but I haven't really tried yet
hanks, any help is great!

Hot take:
The original my Bloody Valentine is pretty fucking mid without the gore added back in. It's got some good atmosphere and I enjoy the naturalistic acting from it that's in a lot early 80s slashers. But I honestly prefer the remake because it didn't take itself seriously and is way more exploitive and fun.
Also...
TOTAL MIDGET DEATH!
