Tried to post this on our discussion on your page, but Null is a nigger and limits wall posts to 1024 characters.
Just watched Hellraiser 2022; not great, not terrible. The plot was ham handed and contrived, the characters one dimensional, and the lore was much more akin to a generic monster/slasher movie. Voight's story was far more compelling and well written - millionaire dabbles in the occult, finds the puzzle box, receives a gift, realizes its not at all what he was hoping for, attempts to save himself by sacrificing others to take his place and gets taken to hell by the cenobites anyway. This was much closer to lore of the (original) movies than what transpired among the rest of the cast.
The main character was alright, shes not a bad actress but the script did her dirty by having her stumble at a breakneck pace through what should've been a far more gradual struggle with voight and the cenobites. Either they wound up cutting a whole bunch of expository scenes or the writers were complete hacks and only focused on writing the final confrontation. The rest of the cast was as one can expect from a modern adaption of a classic; one dimensional mystery meat of many genders and sexual orientations. I'm not against seeing a movie with a diverse cast, but it should feel organic, not like they were trying to check every box on the way to the bottom of the diversity checklist.
We've got:
- A gay nigger (spic?), I couldnt tell and dont care enough to look it up
- A druggie jewess (looked it up)
- A bri'ish soundin' asian with practically no personality
- TWO evil white guys (voight and her boyfriend)
- A gay bbc (bmc?) loving twink
All in all pretty lame set of characters and almost entirely forgetable. Voight and the cenobites really stole the show AFAIC.
I don't really mind tranny pinhead other than they probably could've found a superior actress (with True and Honest XX chromosomes) if they bothered to do so. The new cenobite designs are more interesting than the previous designs and far more fitting of the hellraiser theme. I always thought the original cenobite designs were somewhat incongruent with what they did to their victims. Why bother decking them out head to toe in leather fetish gear when all they're going to do is rip and tear people apart? The flayed, mutilated, and body modified scheme of the new designs is far more fitting, though they should've been made just a little more organic and bloody.
Two of the cenobites (mother and mask) got no screen time, which is a shame considering how much work was put into the concept art and the costume design. Asphyx and the masque should've at least got a kill. Having the weeper show off nothing other than its ability to hold a bitch down and split its arms was also a waste. Considering what Keith Thompson wrote on his art blog, it sounded like they had to cut some sweet weeper scenes. Such a shame. And Gasp? Gasp is a ceno-babe. She could mutilate my scrotum
ALL night long.

I'm hoping they find a soy-free director for the inevitable sequel as well as spend a little more time
fleshing out the supporting characters (so that Leviathan's harvest may be even more bountiful). I'm also looking forward to seeing what Voight can do now that he has the power of Leviathan. No doubt he can be an excellent demonic antagonist, if they give him the chance.
