I watched 2 clips of the film online and lost all interest with the first clip I watched.


The tranny and other sister are already wastes of cinema, the aunt is obnoxious and she and the mother are already rubbing me the wrong way because of how generic they're written. I know its unfair to judge a whole film on a 2 minute clip, so I watched 2 other clips to get a better idea and am kind of surprised that this is doing as well as it is cause it just doesn't feel...like Evil dead much less a film with the score it has.

Its not awful per se, even though the characters feel putrid already from the few scenes I've watched and as I said before, when you don't have Ash as your protagonist you gotta make every character in the script special and unique as much as possible. These aint them. . Its nice to see the films pushing 100 million and all, but damn the writing just felt generic and obnoxious.

Hope the next evil dead film has better writing. I'm laughing at how the family is destroyed because the daughter is a tranny though, its unintentional but hilarious.

Sat through From Black so you don't have to. After almost dropping it after 25 boring, pretentious and dumb minutes, the middle hour actually picked up and was pretty good. I likes the demon quite a bit, I mean the look of it was kind of a del Toro ripoff, but its interactions and motivation were pretty novel, which was good to see. Some good demon summoning ritual stuff happens, and that's always fun. The cop part is pretty useless and just needlessly pads out the movie, even though it is fairly well done. I guess they were trying to ground the movie in reality more with that part.

There are two things that really kill the movie, though. First, Anna Camp, the lead actress is utterly terrible. Not unlikeable like most horror leads these days, just really bad. Like I literally couldn't tell if she was crying or hysterically laughing. Something is just wrong with her acting or her face.

Second, the ending is just utterly retarded. Like the lead goes randomly out of character, and then there's a little event that you're like "wait, what just happened? Ah nevermind, I don't really care." Just like a huge tonal shift and non-sequitur event that left a bad taste in my mouth.

No titties, despite many good opportunities. 2 stars, but only for the middle hour.

You'd be much better off watching A Dark Song, which has essentially the same plot but is done a thousand times more originally (though also has a silly (but at least interesting) ending).

Sorry, something this fucking silly and poorly dubbed is its own source of amusement. The tongue scene at the end of the film always makes me laugh.

The new Evil Dead movies aren't the same type of movies as the Sam Raimi movies. They don't have the horror/comedy elements of the Raimi series. They are more in line with 80's slasher movies. This one in particular. There's only enough plot here to link together the kills. That's not necessarily bad. It flows like an amusement park ride, doesn't overstay it's welcome, doesn't drag.

I had a blast with the first one from 2013, wasn't perfect or the same type of film but the characters felt more serviceable. I don't like how clumsy the dialogue in the new one sounds and I dont like the new characters either. But its ok, I'm sure lots of folks will have a blast with it. I just ain't feeling it at all with this film. Its harsh to judge a film after only seeing 6 minutes of it and all, I know, but all it took for the previous film was a few trailers to pique my interest and hand over my money. Even if you remove the faggotry from this films casting and script, it just doesn't really grab me :/

I really wanted to be interested in this film after keeping track of it, but damn is it just not doing anything for me. I just hope it leads to more Evil Dead in the future. Even without Sam and Bruce theres lots of fun to be had, but it all comes down to the writing and Hollywood writing these days isn't really interesting :/
 

I always think of this amazing scene when the Farms are down for an extended period.
 
Caught a trailer on an old horror movie for a film called Antiviral (2012), which I watched recently. It's almost more of a mystery or thriller movie, but it's got a lot of nice body horror in it. It was a fun one and I'd recommend it. It's got a big message about celebrity worship that they really brick you over the head with in the first twenty minutes, but it definitely evolves into a fun story with some engaging visuals.

That's Brandon Cronenberg's first film. It's pretty good. Very student film at times but give the man a break it was his first movie. His 2nd feature Possessor was even better and it shows the apple does not fall far from the tree.

Funnily enough, Cronenberg's daughter has become a director as well so we might have a Cronenberg dynasty going on.

Oh no shit. I've heard a lot of good things about Possessor. It's on my list but I've been putting it off for a while. I was pleasantly surprised with Antiviral, so I'll definitely have to watch it sooner, rather than later.
 
During the break period, I saw the trailer for another film about the Boogeyman. This one is an adaptation of the Stephen King short story but it seems to have little to do with the source material.

Yeah definitely bump Possessor up your list. The son does Cronenberg a few orders of magnitude better than the father ever did. It's sad that one of the things that can make me actually love (and usually over-rate) a movie is when the characters actually stick to what their characters are at the end of a movie, rather than having some miraculous unexplained and unpredictable revelation that turns them into stupid faggot front-holes.

I absolutely recommend Possessor. Great Psychological Thriller with some of the most satisfying gore I've seen in ages. Just make sure it's the uncut version.
