The Witch: Subversion isn't a horror movie. Not entirely sure why it was tagged as such. I suppose it is a good movie, but I was expecting spooks. At most, this movie is an action-thriller at best.

Depending on which piece of art or fiction, horror can differ in many other categories.

For some reason, I really like the shakey cam in it.

Because I think there was a significant effort for it to feel as real as it could be.
Part of me still think Carpenter needs to get back into directing, but it also makes me feel sad that because of his aging, he's not gonna do it. I'm glad he's not gonna direct anymore.

I want him to enjoy his retirement but I wish that The Thing's very negative reception (further evidence even critics back then were full of shit) didnt put his career in a coma state for a few years
And it's for the best anyway. Plus, Carpenter was never Scorsese, and it's not a bad thing either. He already has Halloween, Escape from, The Thing, Starman and They Live among other things he's made that are already having strong followings to this day and ranking money from subsequent home video and streaming releases and television airings.

He also dissed the labo so there is that

I dont remember this scene from Cocaine Bear...

This and Jaws 5 Cruel Jaws are the peak of Unauthorized Sequels
I don't mind (most) of Mattei's films, but that one's real lousy. It feels more like a particularly lame turksploitation than something an Italian would make. Joe D'Amato, as per usual, did a better job than Mattei with his Deep Blood, which is still nothing special but at least mostly watchable.

Looking back, I consider The Fly, The Thing and The Blob remakes to be kind of a trilogy of sort. I guess you could call it the "80's horror remake trilogy", made up of remakes that actually are considered as good or above the originals. And also concluded that there is no way these three can be made today without being full of souless CG.

Edit: And they also have exemplary demonstrations on the power of practical effects, especially when tied to body horror.

Some good horror news when it comes to 4k blu rays
Studiocanal is bring Wicker Man to 4k on June 21st, will be a EU only release

Bride/Seed/Curse/Cult of Chucky will all be getting a 4k relase by Shout Factory, they have already put out the Child Play movies and from what I've heard did a great job with them

Evil Dead Rise - 10 out of 10

A new fresh take on the Evil Dead that didn't feel like a stupid boring sequel. I found this movie to be the most realistic Evil Dead yet
all the transgendereds die.
Okay, now I'm really convinced.

So was Danny actually a pooner. Saw Evil Dead with a mate who isn't plugged in to culture wars, and it took him half the film to realise it was meant to be a guy lmao
The older daughter was trans? I never got that impression and I only ran out to take a piss for about 2 minutes shortly after the mom was possessed.

As much as I enjoy supporting Evil Dead stuff, I cant bring myself to watch one that has any of that shit in there. Its nice to hear there isn't much, but politics of any kind in an Evil Dead film, which is more about demons exploring the insides of the human body, feels stupid as fuck.
Come to think of it, it reminds of the situation with Ash vs The Evil Dead, where spergs sperged about the cast list having too many diversoids but if you actually watch there's not really any Current Year/Twitter angle to it. I have to hand it to EDR's publicity department: they made so much noise over that actress's snowflake pronouns that nobody noticed the movie doesn't have any black people.

God, Skinamarink is so fucking overrated its not even funny. And this is coming from someone who watched it twice.
Looks like it got savaged in user reviews. I thought it was neither the best or worst thing I've ever seen, unpopular opinion I know.

Might have been a non binary thing. Whatever the fuck they were wasn't normal and I was glad to see them dead.

Negatives
The movie is a bit thin but entertaining.
I wish the body count was a bit higher.
The cat didn't' get turned into a deadite.
The deadites in this movie seemed weak dunno if it was for the jump scares or playing cat and mouse with the victims.

Positives
The mother was born to play a deadite. Very distinct look. Very good deadite.
A setting other than a cabin in the woods.
sufficient gore with red blood
The Shining Elevator
kids get killed
final girl not a mary sue. she has to grow, develop and get help to defeat the big bad
deadite voltron
woodchipper kill

I really appreciated anyone of questionable or indeterminate gender dies. Just like real life.

The actress is a tranny, apparently. Nothing really shows either way in the film - the manlet proportions aside, haha.
See, I knew nothing about that. I just saw the trailers, saw some good feedback, and dove in.

Its not a bad movie on experimental sense but with people saying its the scariest thing they ever watched just reminds me of how freaking dishonest these people are (or that they simply never watched many horror movies and simply watched this one cuz Tiktok told them to do so)

Ash vs Evil Dead wasn't woke. For instance when Ash would make non PC humor. His main two sidekicks just went with it and didn't act like he was a Nazi reborn.
