Anyone here dig the movies of Koji Shiraishi?
I've seen Noroi, Occult, and Shirome. I still find the reveal from the survivor's video at the end a bit silly (considering the effects). However, that might have been the point given where he ends up. I found Shirome to be the weaker of the three but that might be due to me comparing it to Noroi and Occult. It's also been awhile since I seen Shirome so my views may change if I see it again.

Should I just go ahead and check it out just out of curiosity, or is it not even worth that?
If you already have Shudder, I'd recommend watching the first 15 minutes and the last 5-10, if you're curious. I mean I'll tell you, but without the build-up in the movie it'd just seem dumb. When I watched it, I was really optimist and pleased when they showed his power/dealie and really expected the movie to pick up from there and go entertaining places. It does not. It's really, really just a dumb boring slog between there and the end. You need nothing in between.

Shirome had some very cool stuff like the failed exorcism and the wish granting nature of the butterfly god, but the whole teen-idol thing was something I could do without.

When I was recommended Occult the person said "at the end when they put the tape in the vcr, turn off the movie! Do not watch the tape!"

I watched the tape. It might bring the movie as a whole down a peg or two but it is pretty revealing to the nature of the director and definitely foreshadows his future offerings.

Went through all 7 movies in The Blackwell Ghost series. on the weekend. They are strangely fascinating to me and not one of them outstays their welcome. The last movie (for now) does take a very different direction. I'd recommend them.

I watched Jack Be Nimble, a New Zealand horror from the early '90s. Has the tranny Arquette brother in it (before he trooned, obviously). Really not worth watching. I'd never heard of it, so figured I'd check it out. It's a pretty good premise, with a couple flourishes in it that are OK; and the lead chick does a pretty good job. There's some pretty odd choices in it (like having her hook up with a very middle-aged psychic), and it builds up finally to an interesting practical effect in the last 5 minutes (although it's not even a death...and it may have seemed good only relative to the sheer dullness of the rest of the movie).

It's a VERY New Zealand film, that's for sure. Some sites say it has a cult following, but I have no idea why, and I doubt it's true anyway. Or maybe it's localized to NZ.

The characters and story aren't insultingly bad like modern mainstream horror, but they're not great either.

No good deaths, only gore is in the last 5 minutes, no tits.

1.5 stars, better off avoiding it unless you really want to see how NZ was 20-30 years behind the rest of the world in the '90s.

I guess one more tiny reason to watch is to see the worst/dumbest superpower in the world, but you only need to watch the first 15 minutes for theat. Turn it off or skip to the last 10 minutes after that.
This was on my radar because a Vinegar Syndrome partner label released it somewhat recently. It looks visually nice so I’ll still watch it.

I still liked the ending despite how jarring and incongruous it was with everything that proceeded it, or because of it.

I saw three horror movies, two of which were recommended by people ITT. I'll start with the most recent one I watched and go to the last one I watched.

First is Perfect Blue (1997) which I saw from @TVBForever's letterbox list. It was a very unique anime film that I actually really liked. It was effective in being a horror film and a psychological thriller that actually screwed with my mind while I watched it. The final act was pretty good, but given the stuff that happened for most of the movie, I feel I should rewatch it to see if I can understand more of it, but it was worth it. I'd definitely recommend it as well.

Next is You're Next (2011) which @Pitbull Victim recommended, and it was a fun movie. I liked that it felt realistic and how grounded the pain was for everyone. No one shrugged things off, and it actually hurt for everyone involved. It also had some pretty nice kills like the blender for instance.

Then the first film I watched today was The Farm (2018 ) made by a retarded vegan which amounted to "You'd stop eating meat if you were like the animals right" where all the acting was pretty garbage. It clearly was made to promote a message first than make a good movie with how retarded everyone in the film is. I won't go into the logistics of how a fucking human farm would be a terrible business especially when it relies on kidnapping. All the characters are locked up in dog cages yet no one escaped somehow especially when dog cages are fucking weak as hell. Decisions in horror movies don't bother me if there is some reasonable suspension of disbelief, but the characters make the worst decisions ever. Not to mention the film is up its own ass with shallow symbolism by a vegan and the plot essentially happens because they ate meat which was actively encouraged by the "farmers". With the director's history making stuff for PETA, I won't be surprised if this film was also funded by PETA given it fits right up their alley. I wouldn't rant this much about a horror movie if the movie didn't take itself too seriously and was an obvious attempt at promoting an agenda.

Overall, Perfect Blue, and You're Next are pretty great movies, though Perfect Blue is probably one of the best films I've probably seen this year. The Farm is complete shit.

Aw shucks man.

Won some tickets to an early screening of Evil Dead Rise, so I'll say if its shit or not when the movie starts in a week. If its the former, I hope its still good entertainment ala Demons/Demons 2. I can post spoilers here afterwards, I think.

With that out of the way: I've seen Occhiali Neri/Black Glasses (2022). A giallo thriller film by Dario. Basically a mystery under an eclipse of whos killing the call girls, and even the MC is one such hunted prostitute. An incident made her blind, leading her to adopt a service dog and a kid. I really like the synth music used in tense situations. The climax with the dog was nice. The movie is good, though it has some problems where I can't see shit because of low light. If I really have to give it a rating: 6/10.

Congrats, man.

Let us know man rather it's good or not.

That sounds like a challenge to freak you out and force you to watch shit like Martyrs and A Serbian Film.
My girlfriend is extremely squeamish, she hates any amount of sexual violence, SVU can be too much for her at times, so the other night, she's reading a top ten list of something and hasn't said a word to me for an hour, hits me with
"What's a serbian film?"
A part of me wants to make her watch it. Suffer with me.

If you're going to do it then bring the lube...

So I went to see The Outwaters last night, and it's weird. It starts off kind of slow with way too many scenes about these four people preparing to go shoot a music video in the desert. Then it gets progressively weirder, and about halfway through it turns into Event Horizon. Nothing makes a hell of a lot of sense, but it is pretty gory. The scenes where the lighting consists only of a flashlight are annoying. It's better than Skinamarink in the sense that things are actually happening and you're not just listening to people whisper while cartoons play in the background. I'm not sorry I watched it, but it's a not a particularly coherent movie.
I watched this last night and I kind of enjoyed it. I think the "all hell breaks loose" part of the film started well but was too long and repetitive and I started to get a bit bored. Could have done with some editing. Good ending though.

When I was re-watching Slaughter High it occurred to me that Joe Bob Briggs has covered the Dick Randal slasher trilogy which includes: Slaughter High (Monstervision airing), Pieces (Last Drive-In airing), and Don't Open Till Christmas (Last Drive-In). Which I thought was neat. So it inspired me to check out one of the last films Dick Randal produced called Living Doll.

All Dick Randal productions have some similar aesthetic qualities in that they're all massively OTT, have a lot of random titty shots, make almost no sense at all, and have unapologetic extreme gore in the style of Hershel Gordon Lewis if he had access to competent makeup men. This is the same guy who produced The Clones of Bruce Lee FFS.

So, Living Doll (1990 or 89) is an interesting if very neglected entry into the necrophilia sub-genre. Usually whenever this sub-genre comes up in casual conversation it revolves around: Nekromantik 1 and 2, Aftermath, and... Maybe Kissed (which is pigshit)? And mentioning movies with necrophilia like Visitor Q, Lucker: The Necrophagus, Love Me Deadly, or more recently The Neon Demon.

Living Doll has a decent concept that eerily predates Aftermath where a morgue attendant falls in love with a corpse. Instead of raping the body right then and there, the guy digs up the body to be with it which combines elements with the Joe D'Amato flick Beyond the Darkness AKA Buio Omega (which has only allusions to necrophilia). Good body makeup on the corpse in this one. Unfortunately not much else goes on other than the guy hanging out with his corpse girlfriend. Making it more of a psychology horror film. You don't really get any killing or anything until the last 15 minutes.

A slightly weaker effort from the depraved mind of Dick Randal but I'd still recommend this especially if you like Nekromantik or Buio Omega. I'd give this a 7/10 personally.

I liked it despite the shitty 1st act but I think the director is gay which gives new context for the ending...

If anything I think it would've been Tony Spilotro's homage to Fulci. Although the timing is way off, so maybe vice-versa (ayooo).

Although if anything, they're all homages to the OG press gang:

Don't ruin my fun.

Jeeze.
Honestly you might be right. From what I understand, Spilotro's vising of the mick either pre-dated or was unrelated to the Vegas shenanigans, so Scorsese could've cherry picked it to put in the script. It's not like there was a shortage of violent events directly related to the Ant's Vegas escapades. You know how them eye-talians like to stick together.
