I saw M3GAN since I was bored and the trailer for the movie made me morbidly curious. The movie gave me what expected only with the killer android scenes since they were pretty goofy, but the family drama scenes were a slog and the comedy without the android is painfully cringe. Like it's just a 3/5 for me in terms of just being a rather silly movie, but it's expected of a January release.

Honestly what happen to Full Moon years ago it looked like they cared and made pretty fun B movies. In the last two decades they haven't been trying.
In the last two decades they decided to become like Troma and embrace the camp and intentionally make bad movies. Not that Band was aiming for completely earnest movies but there was an attempt at seriousness with the majority of the productions excluding shit like Ghoulies or Demonic Toys. I think it was that plus Band just stopped caring.

That sucks. I always remember being invest in Puppet Master movie lore. Like I remmber Puppet Masters were the first horror series I got into and wasn't until later did I realize the budget for the series wasn't that big. Sucks to hear that Band stop caring.

How in the fuck did this Japanese sickie get uploaded to Tubi? Makes a good double feature with this one:

Tubi has some wild shit. I stumbled into Dis there and I think they have/had Are We Not Cats? in their library too. The latter not horror, but one of the strangest movies I've seen. Not a great flick, but weird enough to make up for it.
Watched Skinamarink tonight. This movie pissed me off because I wasn't sure what it was going for.
I really liked the trailer, but the whole movie could have been a short that was essentially the trailer with a few extra minutes and had the same effect. I'm usually pretty patient with style over substance arthouse fare but that was a slog. There are only so many views of jaunty interior angles a person can take.

Kid toys can be pretty startling at night though, I'll give it that.

Once again, I liked Skinamarink but I knew it was going to be very divisive.

Here's a new fan-edit I'd recommend:

An edit of the semi-classic 80's slasher The Prowler -featuring legendary Tom Savini gore- cut down to just under 60 minutes. The big problem of the original film is that there's an excessive amount of nothing happening. Every time I'd try to watch it I'd zone out because of how boring it could get and the only thing I'd remember was the double kill in the dorm and the head explosion at the end. Without exaggeration there's 30 minutes of nothing happening; we just see our characters wander around and at one point banter with a fat guy.

The film still has some flaws such as the killer not having a motive to resume his killing spree 35 years later. Even something like Pieces did a better job setting up the motive for the killer. The look of the killer is practical and realistic but not very impressive. This fan-edit does a lot to salvage the film.

The Prowler isn't a good title either. As Joe Bob Briggs was apt to point out on The Last Drive In. The original title Rosemary's Killer is better. But I'm partial to the unofficial title Pitchfork Massacre. I kind of like anything with "massacre" or "splatter" in the title because - aside from the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre- it's surrendering any pretenses as to what the movie is.

The history behind the Pitchfork Massacre title is interesting. This newspaper scan popped up with that title and the movie came and went. I think it played in the deep south. No one knew what happened to it or if it even existed. It turns out the distributor pulled a fast one on the rights holders of The Prowler and retitled it to avoid sending them any money. A fairly common tactic back then.

It's impressive but we're still in the tech demo stage. I'm excited to see what will happen when somebody really does something with this kind of technology.
The most exciting thing to me is the prospect of making movies with this shit. I imagine it would look like those Robert Zemeckis CGI flicks but with better graphics.

Someone makes an actually good Star Wars movie and all the wokescolds come out of the woodwork screaming about how it's not real.

I'm pretty fucking excited about the Friday the 13th reboot Crystal Lake. Also House.

It has
- Bryan Fuller and Sean Cunningham heading it
- A24 behind it
- Peacock, so no worries about cable censoring bullshit or netflix diversity bullshit (I'm sure there's gonna be some, but still)

Could basically be that Psycho prequel, but way fucking gorier and with tits.

I mean, as far as reboots go, that's about as dream team as it gets I think.

Interesting hope it's true

Yeah, apparently it was greenlit in November and they've started working on it, not a pilot but straight to series and they already have plans for four seasons total, and a backup plan whether or not they get the rights situation sorted as far as Jason goes.

I really hope it becomes a thing.

It was covered a while ago. I know there's a thread but I'm hoping it'll be good because of Fuller's involvement. Streaming services have this weird issue with nudity in their shows but I hope that won't be an issue here.

Trailer for Brandon Cronenberg's Infinity Pool:

This opens Friday. I love the premise but the trailer turned me off to it. The trailer is way too generic. I wonder if it's just an issue with a trailer house doing their thing and making a good movie look bad?
