I really cannot stand the contrived stupidity of the set-up to the eventual disaster. It kills the movie from the start, at least 28 Days waited until near the end to crush and burn.
I don't think it's contrived. We've seen just how quickly one fuck up can doom everyone.

Really?

The entire 'second outbreak' is one series of contrivances and outright stupidity by the governments and people.

I mean first of all, if you have a potential asymptomatic carrier of a highly virulent super virus that just recently killed millions of people then said carrier is going to be in a BS4 Level isolation pod or area under more guard and surveillance than your average nuke plant. We already have existing protocols for virulent strains that don't cause super ultra mega rabies, and there is no reason that they would have been used at a minimum. Also the fact that the lead engineer/maintenance guy is married to said carrier should have at the very least had his access revoked, like what the fuck.

Secondly, when dealing with a highly infectious strain that rapidly causes psychotic violence it also seems like the last thing you'd want to do is take a bunch of people out of their apartments with food and supplies where they might be able to hide and avoid the Rage Infected and instead cram them all together in a warehouse with no food or toilets where they all become infected in under a minute if a single subject gets inside.

They didn't even have the decency to have the carrier's transport truck blow a tire and lose containment right next to the county fair or something, bare minimum Sharknado level writing.

And COVID happened because some lab animals got out there. It's really not that far-fetched.

Normally I like you, but are you serious? A relatively benign respiratory virus with a days long incubation period escaping out of a Chinese run biolab (not know for their sterile processes) is not the same as an ultra-lethal mega-rabies virus that turns humans into super-psychos in under 30 seconds and is also known to be responsible for million(s) of deaths.

Get real.

You seem knowledgeable about this. Did such procedures exist in 2006-7?

There is no doubt. There's been tons of development since the 40's regarding biosafety for research and medicine (and warfare). The official classifications and certification for the levels (1, 2, 3, and 4) were set up in the 1980's in the US and then the UK shortly after. Following 9/11, concerns about anthrax and bioterrorism brought these protocols into the limelight, and many were updated and improved.

I'm not as familiar with the UK protocols and SOP but they can't be very dissimilar to what I know about the US and USAMRIID based procedures.

Next ‘Saw’ Movie Set for Halloween 2023 Release With Kevin Greutert Directing! [Exclusive]

Darren Bousman’s rebootSpiral: From the Book of Saw pulled in $40 million worldwide last year, reviving the franchise and paving the way for more sequels. Another brand new Saw movie is indeed in the works, with Bloody Disgusting exclusively learning that Kevin Greutert will be directing the next installment. And it’s set for release on October 27, 2023!

Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures re-team for the next installment of the billion-dollar franchise.

The untitled film will be the TENTH installment in the Saw franchise.

Like Bousman, Kevin Greutert is no stranger to the Saw franchise. Greutert directed both Saw VI in 2009 and later Saw: The Final Chapter in 2010, along with the horror movies Jessabelle in 2014 and Jackals more recently in 2017. He also edited Saw I through V and Jigsaw.

While Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures are keeping the plot and characters under wraps at this time, we’re told fans can be assured that the new film will capture their hearts – and other body parts – with all-new twisted, ingenious traps and a new mystery to solve.

Franchise producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules said, “We have been listening to what the fans have been asking for and are hard at work planning a movie that Saw aficionados and horror fans alike will love. And part of that is giving the reins to Kevin Greutert, director of Saw VI, which is still one of the fans’ favorites in the entire series.

“More details will be revealed soon.”

Stay tuned for more on Saw 10 as we learn it.

I am cautiously optimistic about this. If there is no Tobin Bell and this gets just up its own ass like Spiral, this movie will fucking suck.

I've never seen any of the Purge movies because they all looked relentlessly stupid. Should I maintain that train of thought?

The first movie is an average home invasion thriller. The all crime is legal for 24 hours thing is kind of stupid and doesn't make a lot of sense. I think the sequels double down on the dumb premise and hamfisted political commentary. I guess they're cheap to make, which is why they keep making them, but they're not very good at all.

That's why I prefer the first Purge over all the others, at least it's not filled with obnoxious politics. Though I do love me some Frank Grillo.

Spiral? You mean the movie that was shelved and never came out and we agreed it was for the best and we'd never talk about it again?

Can we go a day without an argument, please? My point is that fuck ups in government and in labs is more common than you would expect. I am not saying COVID is the same exact thing as a zombie rage virus. FFS.

I agree. Let's talk about some recommendations for classic zombie horror comedies. Can someone recommend me any?

Thats why I brought up the tired canard of a transport truck crashing and breaking containment - that is at least a plausible chain of events. The corporate espionage angle of Jurassic Park is a plausible chain of event. These circumstances were such that it seemed the government/military wanted the carrier to infect everyone, which would be an interesting twist. Sadly all we got was lazy and bad writing that couldn't come up with an interesting or logical way to create an infection crisis except 'the military is dumb and we want it.'

So I watched Orphan first kill today.

I found it not that bad. The twist in the middle of the movie I did not expect

I do find it interesting how the movie isn't clear if your post to sympathize with Ester or not. Since the beginning makes it clear she is indeed derange. The later parts are when you see the sympathy parts when she has to fight against the evil mother and son. But the ending for me at least in my opinion kind of implies that even through the mother and son were evil bastards. Ester is no Saint either. And similar to the first movie I have a feeling she didn't actually love Allen similar to John in the first one and it was more of a obsession than anything else. Since she doesn't seem all to sad when he dies at the end

I might have to check out Oprhan: First Kill sometime this evening (or possibly next week at the latest).

I'm brave enough to recommend obvious movies everyone has seen: Return of the Living Dead, Shaun of the Dead, Dead Alive/Brain Damage.

Those are movies I've already watched. Shaun of the Dead is absolutely one of my favorite comedies.
