The only recent movie where I thought it made sense to turn the villain into a(n anti-)hero so to speak was Don't Breathe 2, because at the end of the day while the blind guy absolutely did something evil (kidnapping and forced pregnancy (no rape though)), he was not evil per se. Went crazy because of grief and PTSD, but only took revenge on the people who were drunk driving and killed his daughter. As far as him killing the home intruders, fuck them, they were home intruding on a blind guy they deserved to be killed. DB2 was about trying to repair what he fucked up in the original Don't Breathe.
Ok that makes since and works especially since our main characters in the first movie were planning to rob him so I don't blame him for wanting to murder them. Like you said the movie never implies that he had murdered or hurt anyone else besides the main characters and the woman responsible for his daughter's death.

Also it was made clear he had untreated PSTD. It makes more sense than the Babysister's main villain suddenly now good in the second movie.

Not only that, but as far as I remember, the whole reason why Cindy is there and she's reluctant to leave is because she agreed to get pregnant that way. He basically told her 'You robbed me of my daughter, you either give me a new child (though I won't rape you) or I kill you in revenge)'

Fucked up? Absolutely. Evil? Sure. Rape? No.

Yeah for Babysitter 2 to work, it needs a major retcon of the first movie

He wasn't about to rape, he was about to redo the turkey baster thing; again, because he blamed her for killing cindy who was pregnant with his child... unless I forgot that part of the movie.
Okay, someone is about to shove one of those squirting dildos into your ass and give you the Monkey Pox (or worse) but their plans are thwarted then I guess it wasn't attempted rape of your butthole.

Rape implies a sexual component. Just because someone forces something into an orifice against your will doesn't automatically make it rape. See: Gaddafi's death. I don't think anyone's gonna claim that they did that for sexual kicks. It was purely sadism in their case. In his case, purely utilitarian because he wants her to get pregnant.

I mean, I've already said that it's something clearly evil. As far as the protagonist, if she hadn't been in the middle of trying to rob and then kill a blind old man, only to have the girl who was pregnant with his child to get killed in the process, she wouldn't have found herself in that position.

That doesn't justify him trying to do that evil shit to her, but she was an evil piece of shit as well.

Also, before Internet Boomer Criminal can write his thesis on his redefinition of rape (going full Bill Clinton "It depends on how you define 'is'") I did finish Day Shift. I thought it was okay. It's over long, Dave Franco didn't add anything to it and overall I compare it unfavorably to John Carpenter's Vampires. My advice is just watch John Carpenter's Vampires instead:

One thing I didn't like about Day Shift is that all the vampires knew kung fu shit and were spinning around while our heroes (including even Dave Franco) didn't struggle too badly to put them down. There was struggle, there was back and forth but it became too unrealistic if that makes any sense. Compare and contrast to JC's Vampire's where it took several merc's to deal with just one vampire who isn't doing kung fu shit all the time. Then you get to the motel scene (still need to find this uncut footage one day) where the head vampire just annihilates all of them except James Woods.

INB4 "Bruno! What about Blade!" It made sense in Blade because Blade was a half breed and trained. Plus a majority of the vampires he fought weren't doing elaborate Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon bullshit except for the elite vampires he fights towards the end.

And as I typed this out he defends rape:

It's not the same thing. Gadaffi getting a pipe up his ass was more humiliation but you could argue it's still sexual. The rape scene in American History X wasn't for the rapists to get off, it was a show of power and it was still rape. The blind dude was about to force woman to become pregnant and bear that child. That is 100% rape. It is confirmed. Double stamped. Triple stamped. No erasies.

Not unless you want me to bring some chicks in here for their point of view.

Gadaffi was humiliation and torture, there was nothing sexual there.

Do you know how we know that the rape scene was sexual? Because all rape is about a show of power. Oh, and the guys were hard and came in his ass. It's not like they were 100% straight men who had to pop viagra and look at pictures of naked chicks while fucking him to stop themselves from gagging, they enjoyed fucking him up the ass.

The blind dude wanted a child, and the reason we know it's not sexual it's because he goes out of his way to not do it the natural way.

I don't know why 'Yeah, it's definitely evil' is not enough for you, PearlClutchei

Forcing a turkey baster with old jizz and pubes in to someone to get her pregnant is a show of power and can be seen as rape. I could say it's more humiliating with the turkey baster. That's like artificial incrimination and he's treating her as nothing but cattle to breed. That's a big show of power there, and that's all I have to say about that.

To avoid a multipage derail about this, please all those who want to discuss turkey baster insemination, post in the turkey baster insemination thread, not this one. Especially if you're coming because of PearlClutchei's LADIES ASSEMBLE call in supporters.
I thought the female perspective would be important. Jeeze. It's not like we're debating the Schwarzenegger flick Junior and need to know what chick's think about a man getting pregnant.

I loathe horror ARGS and paranormal shit. I want some actual horror. Some crimes, some shit that isnt fabricated to be included as "horror", but just the monstrosity of acts itself is considered horror.

The horror chicks have spoken and have ratified my opinion. I am Rodney Dangerfield in the comic masterpiece Back To School summoning Kurt Vonnegut to help with my essay. Internet Boomer Criminal loses. You lost the war. Here's you fucking turkey baster of jizz with a hair in it for ya':

IWC lost.gif

Suck it. And I say that literally.

What an epic post.

That's a stretch. Tons of not Mainstream movies did both.
And Cannes loves arthouse films

I'd say it's different, simply because of the fact that everyone that year knew it about. It was 'that movie with the rape scene in it'. It made a fuck ton of noise at the time. Yeah sure nowadays it's definitely more obscure, but it's been like 20 years since it was out. When it did come out, few movies got as much coverage. That definitely qualifies it as 'mainstream' to me.
