I watched two horrors last night, and one was The Girl Next Door. It wasn’t that good.
Yeah it was fucked up, yeah it was kinda disturbing, but it didn’t have enough substance to make me get really interested in the story or characters. I know it was based off a real story, which is really really fucked up, but it could have been done better and was not worth the watch.
The second was Something Strange About The Johnsons and it was actually really well done. It’s like thirty minutes, so I won’t spoil it, but the concept of flipping the more common take on familial sexual abuse on its head was really interesting. It somehow made it more jarring to the viewer and made us think about how the father must have been absolutely terrified and ashamed because of what his son was doing to him. I would recommend it if you want some really weird, really quick horror that deals with a subject I have seen less than a half dozen times.

Offseason (2021). Lovecraft? More like BORECRAFT. I thought it had a lot of potential, but ultimately it fell flat on its face. The main character is called Aldrich (GET IT??) and has to go back home to fix a problem with her mother's grave right before a storm is about to close a small, island inhabited by very weird people. Clearly takes cues from In the Mouth of Madness at some points, without actually devolving into actual madness. Just go watch ITMOM instead. What a fucking slog to go through. Which is a shame, because the cast is some A-listers of Indie movies. Had much higher hope for that piece of shit than I should have. Avoid at all cost. 3/10.

Guess I'll put that on my watchlist to see how bad it is.

Next ‘Saw’ Movie Set for Halloween 2023 Release With Kevin Greutert Directing! [Exclusive]

Darren Bousman’s rebootSpiral: From the Book of Saw pulled in $40 million worldwide last year, reviving the franchise and paving the way for more sequels. Another brand new Saw movie is indeed in the works, with Bloody Disgusting exclusively learning that Kevin Greutert will be directing the next installment. And it’s set for release on October 27, 2023!

Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures re-team for the next installment of the billion-dollar franchise.

The untitled film will be the TENTH installment in the Saw franchise.

Like Bousman, Kevin Greutert is no stranger to the Saw franchise. Greutert directed both Saw VI in 2009 and later Saw: The Final Chapter in 2010, along with the horror movies Jessabelle in 2014 and Jackals more recently in 2017. He also edited Saw I through V and Jigsaw.

While Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures are keeping the plot and characters under wraps at this time, we’re told fans can be assured that the new film will capture their hearts – and other body parts – with all-new twisted, ingenious traps and a new mystery to solve.

Franchise producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules said, “We have been listening to what the fans have been asking for and are hard at work planning a movie that Saw aficionados and horror fans alike will love. And part of that is giving the reins to Kevin Greutert, director of Saw VI, which is still one of the fans’ favorites in the entire series.

“More details will be revealed soon.”

Stay tuned for more on Saw 10 as we learn it.

No no no, you don't get it, it's not 'So bad it's good', it's not 'so bad it's one of the worst things ever put on celluloid how could someone think this was a good idea?', it's '... holy shit why am I still watching this' bad.

The movie literally ends with the main character breaking the fourth wall looking at the camera with a smug smile, as in 'lmao I can't believe you paid to watch this'

Don't make yourself go through this unless it's in the background while you clean or some shit

I'm either cautiously excited or depressed, depending whether it will tie in with Spiral or ignore it entirely as it should, and just focus on starting a new chapter in the Saw franchise.

Fuck the haters, I like to love all 8 movies in the franchise.

Not worth it, it's the dull type of bad. However will say it isn't badly shot and did remind me of silent hill a little but even that doesn't make it worth a watch.
That's the worst part. There are a lot of great looking shots in it. Most of the actors are really good. The places they chose to film in are creepy enough. It looks fantastic. It just... never becomes good. Or scary. Or interesting. Or insane. Or anything.

It's so fucking weird because it seemingly had all the ingredients to make a great movie but the story absolutely shits the bed, and for something that's alludes to Lovecraft and insanity-inducing demons and what not... there's just nothing happening. No insane creature, no gore, no death, no imagery, just... nothing. Except one guy who's caught in a living fishing net, I guess?

It's just. Fuck that movie.

That's Black Devil Doll. It was an homage to the 1984 original. It's... Somewhat passable but the original 1984 film is a sight to behold for fans of so bad it's good cinema.
I saw the original 1984 film yesterday (actually right after I watched Killer Klowns) and I want to say it's the worst film I've ever seen in my life with Manos: The Hands of Fate cutting it close, but I feel like I'd be a-logging it because it's a VHS home movies project made by bored blacks who wanted to try their hand at directing a film using a budget of nothing. What do you expect? The only reason it beats out Manos for me is that at least I could see what was going on in Manos and I could hear the dialogue. Black Devil Doll From Hell I can't see the film because of shitty camera quality and I can't hear anything going on in the film because the bad soundtrack overpowers and muffles the dialogue in the film so whatever characterization I can glean from the film is impossible if I can't hear what's going on. But again it's a VHS home movie, what do I expect? But that's just how I feel. It feels like I'm judging a kid's finger paint project in kindergarten in contrast to higher art from bigger studios.

Black Devil Doll from Hell came out in 1984. Who would have thought that year would be worse than Orwell ever predicted.

On the subject of horror comedies, Club Dread is an underrated gem next to the other films from Broken Lizard. The late Bill Paxton looks to be having fun in his supporting role, there is a clever use of subverting expectations and misdirection when trying to figure out who the killer is, and the final act just goes balls-to-the-wall insanity with the "killer just doesn't die" trope.

I never liked it or any of the Broken Lizard movies aside from the first Super Troopers.

every time you write an essay explaining that a movie is total shit and nobody should watch it:

I'm watching Day Shift. Pretty fun vampire film. I like Jamie Foxx. Dave Franco is tolerable. I'd recommend it if you enjoy more light hearted modern vamp flicks.

This has a release date for October 25th. This is the only thing I give a fuck about that Netflix has been involved in since Kill the Irishman.

When I heard about that I was wondering if it was an adaptation of those Russian vampire movies. Night Watch and Day Watch.
I saw one of those. I think it was Night Watch. It was the first film in the series. I walked out of the theater 20 minutes in and got a refund.

I haven't seen either of them in so long I can't remember if I disliked them or not.

Club Dread is fucking fantastic.
Definitely, Club Dredd is an underrated gem.
