I plan on seeing other niche horror films as well like Black Devil Doll From Hell (2007 since I heard that was the “good one”), Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Demonic Toys, Serbian Film, Guinea Pig, and maybe Haunted Bong(?), and Troll. I want to get through puppet master first because I’m intrigued to see where that goes from the first film.

I never bothered with A Serbian Film. Is there any reason to watch it except to say you have?

I saw that when I was about 5 or 6 years old. My friends' parents were irresponsible as shit lol
I’ve heard extremely (like every spectrum of opinion ranging from good to bad) mixed reactions about A Serbian Film. I wanted to see how i personally feel about it. As for Killer Klowns, it looks like a really fun watch. I dig horror comedies so it’s right up my alley.

I still haven't got over the fact that we'll never have a The Littlest Reich sequel...
I remember arguing with assholes that it shouldn't have ended with a non-ending and sequel bait. Dudes were telling me "There's definitely going to be a sequel. Duh. They wouldn't end it like that if there weren't a sequel." It's a shame because it was easily the best Puppet Master movie aside from not having an ending.

That's Black Devil Doll. It was an homage to the 1984 original. It's... Somewhat passable but the original 1984 film is a sight to behold for fans of so bad it's good cinema. Killer Klowns from Outer Space is fun. Demonic Toys is skipable. You only need to see Guinea Pig: Flower of Flesh and Blood and maybe Mermaid in a Manhole. Haunted Bong is part of the new wave of Full Moon movies where they embrace being bad. I'm not a fan of that. Troll is okay, it depends on your penchant for PG fantasy horror from the 80's.

I thought it was good. But I enjoy nihilistic films.

You won't be disappointed. The film is like an enthusiastic love letter to the genre, and its stuffed to the gills with super creative designs and ideas with really unsettling practical effects. Every time I watch it I end up with a huge smile because the sheer joy just radiates off of it.

I think it’s pretty much the only reason. It’s good at being fucked up, also kind of ott but when it came out, the director was really up his own ass about how the film was actually about growing up during wartime in Serbia and how living in Serbia ‘from birth till death you are fucked’ which was also a very lame, literal explanation as to what it all means. This kind of thing is weird imo when directors who were previously all about the spectacle will begin to spout it, like when late game George Romero started saying that Night was a reaction to the Vietnam war; it certainly may have been, but he only said it after one too many theory students explained his movie to him.

The Serbian Film dudes were out the gate with these excuses about ‘what it all meant’ as opposed to being honest and saying ‘hey! we tried our best to make a pseudo snuff movie—check this out!’ As a pseudo snuff movie, sure? It’s fine. But when it was released people were having these ridiculous postmodernist dicksucks about what it all meant, thanks to the filmmakers priming them for the discussion, and it’s not quite worthy of that.

So I just started Day Shift on a whim and I'm a few minutes in... Stars Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco, it's a vampire flick where the vampires behave more like deadites who know kung fu than they do vampires. A good amount of gore, less CGI than I would have expected, lots and lots of blood, hopefully it's not gonna suck but the first few minutes in, it's definitely looking like it's gonna be enjoyable. Definitely has a Blade feel to it.

Plot as I can tell so far is that Jamie Foxx is a vampire hunter in Miami who uses a pool cleaning business to cleanse the world of vampire and make a few bucks.

I watch that too. I like it. I thought the main villain was cool

I thought it was ok. The acting is, in my opinion, really bad. Which was surprising because I think fox is good most of the time. It’s the directors first movie though so it’s not super surprising (he’s apparently a Hollywood stuntman so this is a weird directorial debut). Unsurprisingly though, the stunts are fucking fantastic, albeit a little gratuitous in both length and shitty metal backing music. Lots of practical effects in both the stunts, makeup, and gunplay which was refreshing for 2022. The humor is super corny and I hate snoop dogg, but it wasn’t woke/preachy and told a nice simple story. If you’re looking to kill an hour and a half there are worse ways to do it.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space is fun.
Just got done watching Killer Klowns from Outer Space and I loved it. It really was one of the most fun, schlocky, over the top movies I've ever seen and it's so cutely designed and charming that I just smiled throughout the film. I hear people call it "so bad it's good", but Idk what to think about that description. Because the film actually had a decent horror comedy plot to it, but it did have hammy acting and really bad car choreography, but I didn't mind, I think good uber serious acting would've made the film worse.

Some people might claim that it's not technically horror, but I highly recommend Jackass Forever. I want to see anyone claim that they didn't feel more fear and horror watching Steve-o having a queen bee and hundreds of bees latching on his cock and ball as they have most horror movies they've seen in the last 5 years.

It's also real fucking hilarious. 10/10

I mean yeah sure whatever it's not horror at all but I don't see how everyone posting here wouldn't enjoy the shit out of it.

A little movie night happened so we started with The Church, Templars, weird shit, dream-like sequences, but for me personally it took a bit too long to get to the meat of it all. It kinda lacks the punch, certainly when seeing it has Dario Argento and Soavi at spear-heading this project. Still enjoyable, however.

Dashcam. Oh boy. I thought this was going to be your run of the mill found footage shlock, and it is absolutely found footage shlock but there is something so very sick and disturbing about it. It's fast-paced, a bit too much maybe at the moment and it perfectly utilises the low budget tools it has at its disposal. I really enjoyed this one. Sadly the horror is not the main reason why the movie is being discussed, it's the main character. Probably the most unlikeable character in the history of modern horror. She certainly is interesting to say the least. Mostly, she's just a cunt.

After this one we needed a bit of a palate cleanser, so City of the Living Dead got another play. Fulci being Fulci in the best of ways, time to watch the entire Gates of Hell trilogy again in the coming days.

Yeah Day Shift overall it was just a nice, comfy horror movie with more than enough gore. I like Franco and Fox, good chemistry, watch that shit along a plate of nachos and a few beers, you're in for a good time. You won't remember it six weeks from now, but wgas about that? 8/10
Not to be a dick but "you won't remember it six weeks from now" really doesn't seem to fit with an 8/10 rating, sounds more like 5 or 6 out of 10 with that line.

I've been meaning to watch that. You convinced me. I mean, I don't believe that the main character can be that unlikeable, because I've watched They/Them.

You are entirely right, the same way that Jackass Forever isn't an actual 10/10 who deserves to be alongside the Casablancas of history. You're also entirely wrong, in the sense that it's entirely possible for a movie to be fun and reach that kind of glow when you're watching it, but as time goes by you retroactively downrate it when looked through an objective lens.

It's a really fun movie while watching it. I really meant that 8 yesterday. Today? I'd probably rate it a 7. It wasn't perfect, but I really had a good time watching it. Ask me two weeks from now, I'd say 'Yeah it was nothing special, 6/10'. Ask me two months after that, and I'll go 'Uh, let me google the name I don't remember watching tha- oh yeah, yeah, that, I guess it was alright'

It's like being on a trip with your family on the West Coast and you get your first taste of In-N-Out. It might blow your mind at how good it was, and you'll rave about it on the moment/for the next few days, but at the end of the day it's still just a fast-food joint.

I had no idea they were making a sequel, that's dope! I love the juxtaposition of sadistic gruesome violence and goofy 80s teen hijinks in the first one. It's very unique.
My instinct is that everything new is automatically bad but I actually want to give this one a shot. The only thing I really know about is from skimming an article about a casting call that says "topless nudity required" for a couple of roles, so at least they know what the sports fans want.

I'm watching Puppet Master right now and if anyone here is a fan of this film, can anyone tell me why? I'm not really understanding why people like this movie, it's been kind of meh so far.
The thing is, people like the puppets, and you just have to deal with them being the movies they're in. Still, the original one is hardly anyone's favorite. I'm a little partial to PM2 but Guy Rolfe completely carries the ones he's in (3-5). The franchise somehow managed to have a long fall after that, despite not being perched all that high in the first place. The reboot is much better than any of the mainline ones honestly.

I have to give a shout-out to the Action Lab comic series, which attempts the thankless task of making sense out of Puppet Master continuity and continuing the story.

Yeah she was incredibly obnoxious. Also really enjoyed it, kinda felt like something pulled out of the VHS series, and given a bit more space to breath. The last third or so is just hilariously OTT, but totes a really solid FF horror.

Looking fwd to the next VHS too!

So I watched Choose or Die and it's... meh. It's not terrible. It's not even bad. It's just not quite... very good. The concept itself is really good: video game prompt forces you to choose between two horrible options, or you die. The gore is definitely nice and far more practical than cgi which is a relief. Somehow, though, they managed to make it feel a bit goofy with a 'Are You Afraid of the Dark' kind of way more than it should.

I'd say it's still worth a watch, but not a priority. It's a tentative 7/10, erring on the 6.5/10 side depending on your tastes. It's nothing remarkable, but it's short enough and the gore is definitely what makes it more than watchable.
