Is wolf Creek the horror movie starring one of the old guys from the walking dead? Think it was Dale, anyway

I've been rewatching Holliston, the horror themed sitcom by Adam Green that ran for two seasons in 2012 and its sad seeing it never got a new season. Seeing so many horror greats was a nice treat and I never knew I needed Kane Hodder to call someone a bitch until now.

Does anyone else have any fondness for that run of late 90s and 2000s run of studio horror movies that placed great emphasis on set design and generally eye popping visuals?

It started with the remake of House On Haunted Hill, followed by the remake of Thirteen Ghosts, often, but not always, they were remakes of 1950s movies and were often, but not always by the same production company, this one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Castle_Entertainment

But not always like I said, as I would include Fear Dot Com as part of this cycle, which was a different studio, but the same director as the House on Haunted Hill remake.

Out of the ones I've seen I'd maybe only go to bat for the House on Haunted Hill remake being actually a good movie, although Thirteen Ghosts was weirdly likable, though not great, Ghost Ship is pretty bad, but still has those cool sets.

It arguably ended with the remake of House of Wax, which I haven't seen or maybe Orphan from 2009, which I have seen and thought was pretty good.

All of these movies, even if they're not great, are at least interesting given the emphasis on set design and visuals, which I feel like is what studio horror has been missing for a long time, especially that ten year later fucking awful trend of "found footage" movies ala Paranormal Activity.

I want to mention that I saw House on haunted Hill in theaters when I had just turned 10, I was maybe too young, it scared the shit out of me but I had a great time, probably one of the things that made me the horror fan I am today.

Wolf Creek is a great fucking series, Mick is awesome, WC2 is better than the first because of how batshit insane it is (first one is a bit more generic) but I haven't watched the TV show, how is it?

Well, they released the final trailer for NOPE a few weeks ago and it looks like it is actually aliens, so bonus.

Downside is they completely changed the mood of the film for this trailer.

Now I have less hope because they pretty clearly have no idea how to promote the film, which is a bad sign.

God fucking damn I'm so fucking tired of seeing that fucking trailer in front of every fucking movie I fucking watch in the fucking theater. Fuck.

Without exaggeration, every single movie I have seen in the theater has had the fucking NOPE trailer. That includes: Evil Dead 40th anniversary release, Jackass Forever, The Cursed, The Northman and Crimes of the Future. Now, when I go back this week to watch the 40th anniversary release of The Thing and The Black Phone I'm probably going to see it again, and again. Fuck that.

Yeah it's a pretty shitty trailer. Completely ruined any sort of suspense or mystery from the first, which I thought was quite good. Now it seems more like they're aiming for a scifi buddy comedy.

Also I'm sorry for your loss.

This is the worst trailer I've ever seen for a film. Like regardless of it's quality, this trailer has three different moods that can't decide between it being a scary movie, a comedy movie, or a blockbuster.

Yeah they completely fucked it. Like I said before, if your massive marketing campaign has no clue how to market the film, that doesn't bode well for the film itself. I'm saying this as a general optimist. Maybe it'll end up having a mood similar to Signs, which I'd find satisfactory enough, but it looks like they decided to show all the most exciting shots from the film in one trailer this time around too. Another bad sign.

Yep. They were angry that their headcanon wasn't actually canon and the child eating monster wasn't pro-LGBTQAI++++ (when the book opens on him killing faggots and contains plenty of anti-gay material too)
Pennywise is agender and ITs pronouns are IT/IT... correct pronoun usage is a basic right, not a reward for good behavior

I love Mick as a villain. He's basically if Crocodile Dundee lost his mind and decided to murder tourists. Like I said he's a very fun horror villain.

So actually aliens in this movie. Color me shock. Still the tone is way off form the first one.

I honselty love The Orphan. I wish current horror movies would deliver bat shit insane villains like that again.

Ouch dude. It's a good thing I cannot stand Jordan Peele's horror movies.

I find Ghost Ship to be criminally underrated. Orphan was also kino.

it was attached to Top Gun as well.

Peele is a hack

Edit : i also remember seeing it in front of copies of Dog, that Channing Tatum movie. Jfc Universal.

Peele sucks fat dick and his gimmick, like all Woke, is tired and played out and was never good to begin with.

NOPE will probably and hopefully bomb and put an end to his ability to make movies like that.

Peele managed to dress his Woke garbage up a little more effectively stylishly which is why he had a little more financial success than the norm for Woke, but it was still pushing the evil garbage that is Woke.

The hilarious thing is is I'm sure it absolutely tears the dude up inside that he wants to be the next Hitchcock/Rod Serling type, that his big heroes are white men and deep down I'm sure he knows coming at it from the perspective of "I'm doing that, BUT FROM THE BLACK PERSPECTIVE!" is stupid bullshit that ruins it because it's not like Hitchcock/Serling were thinking of it as "FROM A WHITE MAN'S PERSPECTIVE!" when telling their stories, but he feels like that's the gimmick that is the only reason for his success and it's about to poof, disappear in it's ability to make money and maybe his career with it.

Unless the dude pulls his head out of ass and drops the Woke bullshit and just makes a movie starring whoever, what a concept.

I actually do respect the guy for going for it to be that type of dude in the present day, but Woke ruins everything, he potentially has talent if he'd get a better attitude, will he? I guess time will tell.

But people are already sick as shit of the whole "muh black" thing, just tell a story like everyone else that anyone could relate to.

I honselty love The Orphan. I wish current horror movies would deliver bat shit insane villains like that again.
Yeah, honestly it's a great movie.

I'd probably enjoy it more if I gave it a re-watch, if nothing else that Italian lady sure was hot.

Nope is a metaphor for slavery, the aliens are the equivalent of yt who take black people and suck the life out of them in order to sustain their society because they wouldn't be able to otherwise survive and would perish if it wasn't for their endless consumption of other civilizations

TADA HOLLYWOOD give me $50m and I'll make you racist as shit movies and I'll even wear black face or produce a DNA test that makes me high enough in the intersectional stack i cant be cancelled

for real. I don't know why I haven't watched the TV show yet.

I hope they make a third movie.

I agree with your NOPE take.

Also I haven't gotten to watch the Wolf Creek series either. I should since it sounds good.

Honselty Wolf Creek goes along with what I said about The Orphan. As in the killer is fun to watch. I wish more horror movies would do that these days.

And I'll have to check out The Orphan then, not sure how it didn't pop on my radar
You won't regret it. It's definitely a good horror movie to watch. It's definitely one of the last few good mainstream horror movies at least in my opinion.

I need to check out the Laid it to Rest movies they sound good. Have you seen them?

I haven't heard of Laid to Rest either, as far as I remember. What the fuck was I doing in 2009? I mean, besides a fuck ton of drugs and fucking around and yeah that's probably what

When you say The Orphan, you do mean the one where some young looking chick gets adopted and turns out it's an old psycho? I thought for sure it was shit and that's why I never watched it. It did pop up on my radar. Or maybe The Orphan Killer from 2011? (Would still have been high and fucking around, and Laid to Rest 2 came out then, so post still works)

I watched the show in one sitting a while back and my professional review is: eh. I'm not surprised people don't really talk about it. There are some interesting ideas and a select few are executed really well, but in my opinion, the majority fall flat.

Jarratt gives a great performance (no surprise there) but he really shows his age in some action scenes, and it took me out of the moment. Not his fault, still enjoyed him overall but it's noticeable. Not sure how they're going to wring a third movie from the poor guy.

The female lead of season 1 is... alright. A lot of people complain about her being boring but I didn't mind it honestly. As with any show with a female lead, they obviously had to put a feminist slant on it but it's not as in-your-face as some of the hyper-woke shit that comes out nowadays. (The few obnoxious feminists I've seen talk about the movies think that the final girl trope is misogynistic, yet also think that WC 1 and 2 subverting that trope and only having lead male characters survive is just as bad, if not worse. There's no winning). I don't have an opinion on any of the season 2 characters, I barely remember them.

My biggest gripe is how they misuse Mick Taylor. Season 1 Mick is just... completely incompetent. Avoiding spoilers, season 1 dropped the ball and would've been much more effective as an anthology series that followed different people every episode. Season 2 is better about it, but it has its own... quirks.

Anyway, for the two other people on earth who have also seen the show and/or people who haven't but don't care, here are some minor spoiler opinions. I hate the supernatural elements they shoe-horned in, Mick doesn't have to be an unkillable zombie like Jason to be scary. The majority of characters are one-dimensional and I didn't care if they died. That one scene in the second season where they put sand in Mick's truck was great. The gore is pretty good except for that one atrocious crocodile kill in the first ten minutes of the show, the scene of the guy having to cut his own infected hand off stuck with me for a few days.

TL;DR- could've been great, mostly forgettable. If you're a die-hard Wolf Creek fan I think it's worth a watch, but only if you don't have anything better going on.

I ment the former. It's not bad especially compare to horror films now and days.
