Personally I really don’t care about the show and how it’s pushing an agenda since as a shocker to people saying this will cause the anime industry to become feminist (ala BlackCriticGuy), Japan won’t give a fuck no matter what.

However, the thing I can truly be mad at this show for is that CrunchyRoll is using the money given to them by consumers to “save the anime industry” to fund this crap. I can’t wait for Anime Youtubers to shill for this with their whole “saving anime” mantra when anime never needed to be saved.

When did it need to be saved?

Since we're talking the actual animation and art style now I guess there are a couple of things that I feel like bringing up.

The whole "CalArts" thing is a bit of a misnomer. It was coined by John K to refer to an undesirable but completely unrelated style of animation.

A lot of shows nowadays look similar not because current Western animators graduated from CalArts but that's just kind of the current trend, much like 60s and 70s cartoons looking similar, even those not made by Hanna Barbera.

When did it need to be saved?

Because those evil Internet pirates are not watching the shows legally.

In all seriousness, it’s due to how anime is not getting good budgets and animators are not getting paid enough but Crunchyroll isn’t the solution to these problems like what the AniTubers want you to think.

Some of those pirates happen to come from third world countries like in Asia and Latin America. Some of the bad English subs came from Thailand, I can't find an image or a clip, but I remember a badly translated Fist of the North Star sub where the subtitles went like; someone was kidnapped and they told the hero "she was robbed!" or when a village is getting attacked the people or panicking and subtitles say "They are killing us! Wow!" like they were thrilled to be pillaged and murdered.

Well animation is expensive, and if you see interviews, the schedules are hectic and most of the times long series are kind of an advertisement for the manga, and if the manga doesn't sell, they stop making more episodes which explain certain abrupt ends for certain shows.

I keep telling myself that flood of cringy animated shows is because more animation (and any other media too tbh) is made in general. But it's cringy anyway.

Seeing Kate Leth in production staff is painful enough (why this woman is still getting hired, all her comics failed), but:
- "our staff is 50% female and 50% male, but writers are 100% female"!
- all of them look like typical tumblrinas, I think that is even worse presentation than Thundercats Roar's main guy hairstyle
- artsyle is a bit roundy in "calarts" style way, but actually pretty detailed and would be cute if not muh diversity character design. Backgrounds looks nice. It's a pity.
From what I'm seeing this just normal high school stuff (there are boys in this school too, but main characters are a group of girlfriends - whats not very different from all the doll lines like Monster High, Ever After High etc.), but in high fantasy setting.

Look, I'm really into girly stuff and I'm tired how now people are pushing all-girls groups in movies etc (Ghostbusters) despite it's staple of series created for young girls since 80s at least. But now they must be advertise as super feministic and those normal, older shows that just were made for young girls so because that they are about young girls, also analyzed through feministic lenses. SJW, stop ruin all the stuff I like. -.-
Also, the concept (four girls in high fantasy setting, every of them is from different fantasy class) sounds very similar to new Nelvana/Nickleodeon cartoon Mysticons nobody watches. It also advertise itself as "series for girls like never before", "super feministic", "diverse bodies" and failed miserably. I think marketing is what killed the show, because (if you dont mind Toon Boom animation) it's ok and not really SJW trash marketing made it be.
Don't have any hope for High Guardian Spice.

Has the California animation clique that came out to defend She-Ra and Thundercats shown their support for this? Or are the people behind this not their friends, so they don't care?

oh, a group of girls in a magical school… I wonder why that sounds familiar (coughcoughLittle Witch Academiacoughcough!)

I wonder who is the target audience of this thing .

Who's gonna pay a weeb site to watch some Steven Universe clone? Those are two different audiences, at least I think they are.

There will be some woke people doing it for social justice points, but I don't think they'll last more than one season. Which is probably when it ends.

Yeah that country Asia, man!
I forgot to put in after like. Then again Asia is bigger than China and Japan, just like how Latin America is bigger than Mexico and Cuba. How they are third world, uh.....go figure.

Y'know, with shit like this, Thundercats Roar, the new She-Ra cartoon, the senior writer on The Dragon Prince, and Comicsgate, animation and comics are about to go through one hell of a counterculture in the coming years.

There's something hilariously hypocritical about a website that constantly tries to guilt-trip anime fans for not paying them "to save the anime industry!!!", only to then dump any subscription revenue they might get into contracting a bunch of American lardass dangerhairs to make a Steven Universe ripoff instead of, you know, a Japanese animation studio to make actual anime.

Ceterum censeo Calarts esse delendam!

One of the writers, Kate Leth (pink sidecut dangerhair), has her tweets set up to automatically delete themselves after a certain amount of time, because she has a tendency to get drunk off her ass and tweet things she really, REALLY shouldn't. Like how she was the sub in a BDSM relationship with a married man dying of cancer.

(Why are these supposed strong feminists ALWAYS subs?)

I can understand maybe, maaayyyybee banging a married man, but a person has to be seriously mentally ill and/or retarded to broadcast that relationship publicly to their thousands of Twitter followers.

And, YES, she really did tweet about her dead married boyfriend just two minutes after tweeting a photo of herself touching tongues with another girl.

Kate Leth used to be in comics but she was blacklisted for shit-talking every company she ever worked for. I would bet money that in about 8 months she'll be shit-talking Crunchyroll for not living up to her SJW expectations, even though she herself is a terrible, terrible person.

So given that the trailer had no actual finished animation, what are the chances this will never actually get made and instead enter the same development hell hellhole Gen Zed did?

I also have no idea why they would hire Kate Leth for anything anime-esque. She doesn't watch ANY anime and maybe even hates it.

I wish that I had saved the tweets where her boyfriend tried to introduce her to anime by watching Fullmetal Alchemist with her and she never made an earnest effort to get into it. She just called anime weird and stupid and made fun of her boyfriend for liking it.

Same shit happens with video games. The Mass Effect Andromeda developers even bragged about hiring people who hated videogames to work on it and I have no idea why they do this.

Also there are tons of LGBT characters in anime already so the idea that anime isn't gay enough is insane.

Unlike you guys, no offense, BTW - I don't fucking care for 98% of anime (especially today) in general - but come right fucking on, now! THAT is the last thing you ever want to do if you want to succeed at anything... IRL. Hire people who love the craft, study and keep themselves up-to-date on it, no matter what it is. You're fucked all around if you can't do that, otherwise - just like this show is more than previously suggested by me, now that I've just heard that, too.

I welcome this counterculture with open arms - might get some great stuff out of it (maybe some that can have more of anime/manga's legit pull that's been lost in Western media as of late, too.), especially once you chase out all the bad elements (you know what they are by now.....).
