>Implying Stella isn't a good mother
Listen, I want my Stella loving Octavia headcanons to be true as much as the next guy, but this is Viv we are talking about and we can't have nice things.

At least this photograph will always be canon. 212+Family+Portrait.png

Neither of Octavia's parents are the least bit good parents. It's genuinely unbelievable that Octavia has turned out the way she has. She should be a vindictive little bitch.

I did see a video talking how Octavia is actually a very egotistical character, because like her parents she wants things to go her way.

If that's the angle that video wants to go with I'll have to disagree with it. Wanting things to go your way doesn't make you an egoist, it's a categorical inability to compromise that serves as the indicator for egoism. Which Octavia does not have. Octavia is a weird character because she is such a normal seventeen year old girl and it just does not work with her upbringing. She should either exhibit the worst traits of both her parents and be an absolutely evil little monster, be a highly adept social manipulator due to constantly needing to navigate the battlefield that was her home life growing up, or she should be much more sheepish and weak willed due to being relentlessly dominated and controlled her entire life and so she's a doormat NEET who just goes along to get along and rarely thinks for herself. Or some combination of the three. My issue with Octavia is that she's way too normal for how fucked up her childhood was and unlike someone in their thirties or forties who's had time to mellow out, get some life experience, and move past their fucked up childhood, Octavia is still actively living hers.

Only conclusion is that she was actually just straight up neglected most of the time and raised by staff, not interacting with her crazy parents much at all outside of the occasional polite-ish interaction (pre-blitzo). I mean, she's the heir and yet barely knows shit about the grimoire, so stolas sure as hell wasnt giving her frequent studying sessions even before he started being a skank, and he didnt remember any of her interests past the ones she had when she was like 5. And Stella seems pretty self involved too. Too preoccupied to even control her, she would only be around staff who she'd be in a higher position than, and maybe she just had a good enough heart to not want to abuse that power.

So maybe she just never got close enough to them (in combination with childhood innocence) to really notice how much they sucked until now? And only now when shes become a prize to be won for either parent theyre suddenly messing with her, her feelings and her life.

Given how much wasted potential Hazbin has, it's always interesting to see others' take on the series. My personal favorite has to be alkiri_art_original's, especially her take on Charlie.

What I like about this design is that it clearly demonstrates that Charlie is very much not human, and there is a certain level of uncanniness to see such a being have a decent, if not yet truly deep grasp of human behavior. Personality wise this Charlie feels a lot more mature and intelligent while still maintaining her compassion and charm. She's still willing to give people a chance but won't hesitate to give belt to ass if you test her patience too much - and very often despite her appearance she's willing to use it to stand her ground and demonstrates why she is the princess of Hell.

Thoughts on this version? I think this is interesting and the comics she's made are also worth checking out.

Octavia is way to well adjusted for someone who had a mom as supposedly vile as Stella and a dad who's a neglectful fag.

I dont know what Vivs family life was like, but if her parents are still together this kind of shows that she never grew up with parents who constantly fought, cheated on each other etc.

Hell one of the first things we see Octavia deal with is her mother throwing shit at her dad. That shit will effect you growing up. It effects your perception of your family as a whole and it colors your opinion of one or both of your parents.

I don't understand why Viv went fullbore into the Stella is terrible narrative. She could have made Stella out to be the better parent between Stolas and her, with scenes of Octavia gravitating to Stella now that Stolas is getting fucked in the ass by an Imp. Which is something that happens in real family struggles, with kids picking sides when the family starts falling apart.

You could show how terrible Stella is if you want, but it doesn't make sense for Stella and Stolas to be as terrible as they are, with Octavia being as relatively well adjusted as she is with the lack of support structure she has.

She doesn't even seem to have friends, so how does she function as normally as she seems to?

Tbh, I really like the art style of HH. This here is interesting, but not to my personal liking.

This being said-I love everything else about it, especially the "don't you forget" moments of uncanny valley in hell
I would love for Charlie to mature in this direction (not holding out hope for it, of course because that would be good writing).

I would also like the sinners to be shown more like Lucifer sees them-awful, violent, out of their free will. I mean- Vox is a serial murderer. Val is Hazbin's Epstein. I think Velvette's sin might have been being a huge, narcissistic bitch and a beauty influencer (=cancer) causing body dysmorphia/anorexia/self-hatred on a massive scale. Why not elaborate on that? What would redemption look like for them, if possible? Heck, I'd get theologians on board (preferably Catholics or Orthobros, no batshit insane evangelicals) to add sound theology to great writing.

As you said, wasted potential.

Because if Stella wasn’t terrible, then people might think Stolas is (GASP!) in the wrong for cheating on her and neglecting his daughter to get fucked by some asshole! Won’t somebody please think of the sad gay bird man! Look at him taking antidepressants and crying as he eats ice cream and watches soap operas!
God, I remember when I thought Stolas was going to be more intimidating…

People are pondering Octavia, when the thing is, I think Octavia is less of a character, and more of a prop, and that because if she was included more than she is, the gay romance they want to tell falls apart fast. It’s like the antidepressants, except this prop is supposed to be a person we are supposed to emphasize with. She’s used to tell the audience how good Stolas is how wonderful of a father he is or how evil Stella is. Even in fan works I’ve read she’s just kinda there.

I recall someone saying the writers hate Octavia, and I can see why, she’s a huge issue to their narrative.

Because when yaz break it down, Octavia actually is a prop. Heck, we barely know anything about her as a character; most we know is she seems to like specific types of music and that's about it. We pretty much know jack'n'shit about her, so the entire drama of her parents being douche monkeys falls flat. Basically, we're supposed to feel sorry for a character we barely know anything about, all because sad music plays in the background.

What got me was when he was working at IMP after his court case and his first response wasn't "I miss my daughter"

It was "I'm poor now!"

Really shows where that faggots priorities lay
The owl fag already showed his priorities when he unsolicitedly prepared to let himself die for Blitzø like that was his only option.

Yeah, let's glorify that by having Millie applaud that he did it for all of them as if he would've done the same for any other member of IMP had they been in Blitzø's place instead.
