Socialism is ostensibly about standing up for the little guy and giving workers a fair share in the world. Hasan's dog is his little guy, his little worker, and he electrocutes it the moment it steps out of line, while depriving it of food and water, forcing it to inhabit an invisible cell for hours on end. This whole moment exposes what people like him do with a modicum of power over something - what every socialist has ever done when they get power.
I’d argue the reason the American Revolution turned out differently was that it wasn’t really a social revolution, just an independence war. The state legislatures and colonial elites themselves were leading it. The colonies were de facto independent before the Revolution, just with British-appointed executives (not legislatures).

I got you, I just don't agree that is the main reason Asmon makes him seethe so much. For Hasan it's always about himself. Asmon getting higher numbers than Hasan is important for Hasan, because it's a direct proof of popularity, and that is all he craves. Now, what you say might make it sting more for him, but I don't think it matters that much since Hasan see him as a ideological enemy.
