Using tragedy is an effective way to advance the cause you are advocating for because the idea is to appeal to people's emotion in the moment and use that to accomplish some kind of goal before people calm down. When people are upset and read something that is saying how bad a certain thing is and that it caused such and such event, truth becomes optional when people think irrationally.
