Oh yeah I tried that mod recently. The only thing I can say is while I appreciate the idea of having Firefight mode in regular Halo 3 it feels like the mod maker completely misses the appeal of Firefight in the first place and over-complicates things.
I like the concept, but yeah the execution isn't quite right.
It feels like it drags on for too long I'd say is one of my major complaints. The appeal of Firefight is being able to just drop into a map and kill some covenant without hassle. Despite being called Firefight this feels like something totally different.
It needs polish, at least in the single player area. Far as I can tell from other let's plays, it seems decent enough *if* you have other guys to play with. The issue is the single player is utter dogshit in some areas, especially regarding your AI allies and lack of cover in the open where you spawn. If they were to boost your allies to match your enemies, and place them at strategic points, perhaps event as events to majorly assist in dealing with enemy bosses, infantry, and vehicles at key points on the map.
Currently in the middle of another mod, Halo 3 Resurrection Revamped, and I just got past the point where you deal with the first scarab on the Ark. That was *not* a fun mission, let me tell you. Legs had a terrible amount of health to deal with, allies didn't seem to target the correct spots consistently, and the scarab had *two* weakpoints I was not aware of until I finally got sick and tired of trying to blow out the rear point to no avail.
THAT would have been nice to know before wasting around twenty five minutes on the fucking thing. It did have a banshee, but it was the shit space superiority version that could hardly maneuver. Side movement was non existent except in dodge rolls, and the boss had an active turret that sometimes had a pattern, but then sometimes liked to surprise you by firing a few seconds before it should of.
Boss encounter at the end of the level was... Okay. Appropriately challenging, but it could do with more weapon spawns. Ended up having to camp in certain corners and treat it as a cover shooter, a disturbing trend I have noticed on these mods when playing legendary. That goes for regular Halo as well, but it seems much more apparent when playing on certain mods.
Allies were okay, especially the elite honor guards. But it would be nice if they and the humans were a little tougher.
Will keep you guys posted. Gonna try and finish that mod today.
Edit; Oh man, they *really* didn't playtest this mod on legendary, did they? Currently stuck at a point where traditionally you were able to bumrush through with the hog, legendary or not. But I am at one of several points in the game where the game really punishes the traditional playstyle of it all. You know that route to the first generator? Yeah, blocked by two fuel rod wielding banshees, two choppers, and a few brutes with grenade launchers that'll shred your hog if you even dare to attempt the run. Plus a few ghosts to throw off your steering too.
Spirit in the way filled with those damned anti vehicle brutes. Have to hang back and wait for my gunner to kill them one at a time, which takes quite a bit. Died a few times already, even equipping my second guy wtih a fuel rod. Maybe I should give him the spartan laser, if I had the juice for it.
Damn, so annoying. Would like a scorpian or two at least.
Edit 2: Yup, banshees take *two* spartan laser hits, and two scorpians too. Just lost my second gunner with the laser. Marines a bit too fragile to be useful. Pain. You're not even a glass cannon in this mod. Just glass period. Pain. Really regret not jacking that first anti air wraith, but it was too surrounded by fuel rod grunts, grenade launching elites, and
shielded jackals and grunts. What the actual fuck, man? Even the goddamn fodder is shielded. They can be killed quick if you have power weapons, but those are sparse at the best of times. The wraith too kills quick, and always locked on to you every time I tried to get near it.
Frustrating.
I can get thorugh this, but it's going to be a real pain with several deaths.
Edit 3; Decided to restart, and use the grenade turret to bombard them. Poor visibility, but managed to kill several. Took several minutes. Died to friendly hunter's beam cannon. Pain. Second attempt, allies attempt to rush through, killing themselves. Restarting again.
Edit 4: Oh fuck this. I've had enough dying to cheap deaths today. I'm dropping it down to heroic. Devs did little or no playtesting with this game on legendary. Allies are close to worthless, getting shredded, not enough power weapons to compensate. Not even the Halo 1 rocket flood were this bad.
