The biggest problem with Nuts & Bolts was that it had "Banjo-Kazooie" in the title to skew expectations. How dare you! Nuts & Bolts was fantastic.
Dual d-pads is where it's at.the power of a second analog stick is...powerful
The main problem with the Goldeneye rights issue was Eon Productions themselves, they didn't wanted a game featuring a previous Bond while the Craig movies were a thing, it's the reason why the Wii remake used him instead of Brosnan. To briefly explain the rights limbo:
Goldeneye 007 was developed by Rare, but published by Nintendo. The Rare acquisition did not include GE007 from Nintendo. Even so, Activision HAD exclusive publishing rights to 007's likenesses until 007 Legends. MGM and OEM, the movie rights holders, has say on those general rights.
I'm guessing now, Nintendo approved the GE007 rights for Rare since they are friendlier with MS now.
That's not the main reason. Nintendo shot down plans for a remaster in 2007.The main problem with the Goldeneye rights issue was Eon Productions themselves, they didn't wanted a game featuring a previous Bond while the Craig movies were a thing, it's the reason why the Wii remake used him instead of Brosnan.
We still could at least have gotten a more faithful remake on the Wii instead of a Call of Duty clone if it wasn't for Eon, weirdly enough Nintendo didn't cared about the remake getting ported to the 360 and PS3 later on.That's not the main reason. Nintendo shot down plans for a remaster in 2007.
Was that remake a bad game?We still could at least have gotten a more faithful remake on the Wii instead of a Call of Duty clone if it wasn't for Eon, weirdly enough Nintendo didn't cared about the remake getting ported to the 360 and PS3 later on.
No, it was just hardly a remake at all besides following the basic plot of Goldeneye but with a modern coat of paint. Was that remake a bad game?
It's like GTA 3:I think Goldeneye sucks. There was some innovative features such as having multiple missions per level and some of the spy gadgets but overall it didn't age well in every other area.
And yes, I played it back in the day and preferred Turok. I even played it more recently with an emulator running at 60 FPS with mouse-look and I still didn't terribly like it.
I played GTA 3 years after the hype and had fun with it. I played Goldeneye years after playing Doom and other better FPS and walked away from it thinking "Yeah, it was okay. The cheat codes were fun." I said to myself with a shrug of the shoulders. Then it became this acclaimed masterpiece by retrofags in later years. It's like GTA 3:
Super influential and important, but since it's one of the first of its kind it lacks the refinement later games brought and therefore plays like shit compared to what we've come to expect.
I think it's worth a playthrough. I prefer the Wii Version due to the leaning you can do, but the PS3/360 version is also fineWas that remake a bad game?
Nintendo and Rare had rights to the specific game and code that they made and published. I didn't play GE Wii but if it just based itself on the movie instead of the game then Nintendo and Rare would have no claim to it, since it was a movie tie-in instead of their own IP.We still could at least have gotten a more faithful remake on the Wii instead of a Call of Duty clone if it wasn't for Eon, weirdly enough Nintendo didn't cared about the remake getting ported to the 360 and PS3 later on.
It's kinda it's own thing, especially when they reworked the motivation of Alex to make it more about the 2008 recession than the cossacks in the movie(I think?)Nintendo and Rare had rights to the specific game and code that they made and published. I actually like GoldenEye still, but yeah I always wondered how it was "OMFG BEST FPS EVAR" when you had Duke 3D, PowerSlave (both vesions), Quake, Blood, Shadow Warrior, Quake II, Hexen II...I think Goldeneye sucks.
