Btw, TV Tropes gave a pretty weak defense for Odin's portrayal in this game.

Said work is American Gods by Neil Gaiman btw.

Some users also like how the deities are portrayed.

I was actually thinking of American Gods too, but it’s not a good idea to use as defense. It’s shown several times that the gods change their appearance throughout time ( to be what they need to people, manipulate, fight, etc.), so he’s only an old man in that time for that story. (Also the book describes him as tall and strong so not really).

He’s also actually strong as fuck and more like the Odin you think of when his mask comes off and his real plan is out there.

So, Neil Gaiman is actually better at this. Yikes.

If they even dare to because "racism".

Yes, I'm aware that ancient Egyptians are all dead but wokists don't know that.
I'd bet on them making the villains pale and white* and the good guys black. Not Egyptian brown, but full-on Nubian black with a couple of the gods being oddly jewish.

Unironically, I would’ve liked to have seen that be the next journey, even before 2018.

Then again, if they’re just gonna make the “gods” look like your average Portland neighbors, it doesn’t matter where they go next.
I only wonder because even though Santa Monica said they wanted to do something different, they wound up doing at least one of the things Jaffe originally wanted done.

*Though to be fair, Set was described as white and red haired in some texts.

oh geez, the God of War Ragnarok director wants to take a shot at Castlevania?

Dracula: What is a man?
entire writing team starts crying and shitting themselves at the transphobia

Oh fuck. They’re gonna make Netflix’s knockoff Alucard being a faggot canon.
Please Konami, if you could just not hand the keys over that’s all you have to do. You’re very lazy, and it’s very easy.

I finally figured out a way to play this game and actually enjoy doing so. I've stopped using all weapons and only rely on Kratos' fists and kicks and parrying everything, thus transforming the gameplay experience into something resembling a slightly anemic Sifu. I'd recommend others try this if you're feeling bored. As a bonus you can ignore the stupid upgrade trees and just punch punch punch your way through the realms.

If you're going that way just play evil west.

Simon Belmont walks in on the final boss's room. The place looks dark and sometimes lightning striking down lights up the room enough for you to notice there is someone sitting on the throne at the very end of the room. Music stops and you can only hear Simon's steps as you move him forward. As you get closer to the vampire himself, the room starts getting colder and you can see Dracula going from a relaxed pose to a more alert stance and getting closer to the end of the chair. Dracula starts grumbling and chuckling as the weak human getting closer to him. At the same time, the room gets colder and you can begin to see frost on the windows and walls. Finally you get close enough and the battle starts.

Then Simona, the NPC that was with you for the whole game, yells with a deep (womanly of course you fucking bigot) voice: "SIMON! YOU HAVE TO KILL DRACULA TO SAVE THE WORLD. TRY ATTACKING HIM!"

I just finished the Ironwoods section. That was absolutely horrid. Way too long and self indulgent. I also noticed that this game is suddenly full of adorable Miyazaki-esque fantasy creatures. GoW2018 wasn't like this, it had stuff like elks, ravens, wolves and the like but now it's a full on cartoon. People always see a divergence between the Norse games and the Greek games but I don't think Ragnarok is even tonally in line with 2018.
Also I can't be the only one who finds it funny that they made the black Angrboda a graffiti artist.

I'm like 2 hours in the second Atreus bit and I'm really struggling to keep playing. The first was bad but this one is infinitely worse, we have the magic bitchy mary bitch sheboon who, of course, Atreus is in love with because media nigresses are somehow not repulsive in every possible way. But even disregarding her, the gameplay is really boring (you have very little options on how to fight), Atreus is 2 hit killed by fucking everything in the toughest difficulty and it all doesn't count towards progression in the actual game.

And I know there will be at least a third part because everything in modern gaming needs to happen 3 times.
That’s a bit on the nose for me too. Thrudd is a much more relatable character, and doesn’t look horribly out of place in a game any reasonable person would assume should be hilariously Scandanavian.

The tone of this game is all over the place, the previous game was relatively light compared to the tragedy of the original series, but still had a somber tone with a foreboding ending. This game is just a farce.

I want to sperg out a bit about character development in the game:
Kratos: The idea is that he needs to let go of Atreus to do his own thing, but Atreus is fucking 16 and constantly shows bad decision making. So it boils down to him becoming a terrible helicopter parent who'll end up with his son committing 41%.

Atreus: Good writers would have Atreus' development complement Kratos by him learning to take responsibility for his actions. Appropriately to Current Year, Atreus learns that nothing bad is ever his fault, but someone else's.

Freya: Literally every Yass Slay Queen plot line you've ever seen, which is her defining herself by her hate for Odin while also defining herself as not being defined by her hate to Odin. She is also incredibly abusive to Kratos and Co. and highly manipulative and willing to sacrifice others, but it is empowering when a woman does it.

The idea of prophecy is basically "there is no assured future, just highly informed deductions". This is bullshit because:
1. The previous game had seeing the future, so it retcons that part.
2. This isn't some sci-fi setting where you have the mathematics to back up this idea. Especially as it's predicting actions of people who weren't even born yet, or didn't exist in their realm.
3. The predictions are comprised of so many convoluted parts it would have been impossible.

The reaction of characters to that idea of prophecy is basically "as long as you don't acknowledge you are being manipulated then you aren't manipulated". It really is that retarded.

In an earlier post I joked about Kratos' wife being a groomer, but thinking about it, she really does groom her unborn son into taking part in a terribly dangerous war for vengeance of her race. The game seem to realize it and say she tried to prevent them at the end, but she still sent them for a journey to bury her at the start of the previous game, that kickstarts the plot. It really is just the writers making sure no woman is a villain.

The game also tries to take a stance against toxic masculinity but it is really strange when Kratos does teach Atreus to not be a little bitch but that doesn't count despite how it is usually defined.

I unironcally would love that.

Have not finished it,but it really seems like you guys are too dam cynical about the writing. It's an adventure of a father and his son going around killing shit with friends. And it plays great too. The new parry system with the shield feels fantastic.

It was a little rough at first without the blades for crowd control, but once you get those back everything falls into place. Really enjoying how the blades of chaos are getting a lot more love and usage in this. You can use em more for traversal, cutting shit open and actual finishers which is nice. The gore complaints are not wrong, but at least there's plenty of sick decapitations. My biggest recomendation is to turn off the enemy health bars, that makes it a lot more invigorating to play.

My all time favorite moment so far was Kratos chewing out his son for cursing. That was fantastic.

So I've been playing a game called Evil West. People have been saying that the combat is the same as the new GOW and if that's true then LMAO what did they do to my boy.
You probably shouldn't believe anything these fucking dipshits espouse about a game they're simultaneously proud of not playing while insisting that they're an authority on it. Hope that helps, you also dipshit

allright so i dont know if anyone is going to read this but nu GOW writers pretty much raped and violated everything that actually made it special in the first place.
Good Combat and entertaining brutality? nope instead hit an enemy like your chopping wood
Good Lore and not changing the whole of mythology? NOPE, freya the goddess of love will and beat the chud kratos ass (gosh its like Aphrodite who kratos pumped in the previous game suddenly turns into a bad ass warrior bitch. AH ITS SO CRINGE)
Kratos as a character that you try to like? Nope he is now a weeping dead beat dad!
dialouges that makes god of war unique? Nope! ENJOY MCU GOW CHUDS!

holy shit guys i am not kidding, Rick Riordan a guy that writes books for pre teens and teens wrote a better story then MATURE GOW!!
even the MCU did a better job
just don't buy the game guys.......

Im cautiously optimistic, Im waiting for for the other shoe to drop as far as making the kid gay or some stupid shit. But if its about the same quality as 2018 ill enjoy it. The biggest problem that game had was a lack of bosses, otherwise the father son narrative was pretty brilliant.

I like the central idea of a guy like Krato's trying to be more in control of himself for his son, if not moral. There was this delightful awkwardness seeing him try to be more interactive with people as opposed to simply killing everything in his way.
the kid is a furry!
