Wasn’t the whole point “Ares made sure his family would be in that village so Kratos would kill them in his rage and this have no earthly attachments, being a perfect tool for the god.”? I thought that was the big reveal twist as to why he wanted Ares dead so badly.
It's been a long time since I've played Ascension, so correct me if I'm wrong, but Kratos is already wanting revenge against Ares before the end of the game, doesn't he? So how does the reveal that who he wants revenge against was responsible for... why he wants revenge against him anyway make sense?

So my interpretation was that it implies some wider conspiracy beyond just Ares, though I could be wrong, but coupled with the mural of the Three Wise Men in II and Kratos seemingly working his way through all the old pantheons, you wonder what's really going on.

Arguably moving into the present day wouldn't be the right direction to go in, but it'd still be interesting to see the "Cronos skeleton" thing followed up in some way.

Anthony Burch's stench lingers over this entire game like a sinister fart. All the smarmy quips and fucks, everyone feels like a faggot Californian with very few moments of gravitas. The executions are also weak as fuck, no gore. Glad I didn't buy this turd.

Kratos finds out about the whole Ares thing about halfway through IIRC.

Ascension adds some new lore to the series by explaining that Ares wanted a perfect warrior because he was planning on overthrowing Olympus with the help of the Furies. By the end of the game Kratos kills them, becomes free of Ares' service and vows to get revenge on him someday. Dude's still tormented by what he did tho (Ascension is set only 6 months after he murdered his family), so he pledges his services to the other gods in the hopes that they'll help him out eventually.

That mural shows up in 3 as well. Thus far they haven't really done anything with it, but we'll see where they take things.

Ragnoraks story feels off putting. It's like it was written by aliens trying to blend into human society. Like the writers are moraless bugmen who know humans like FAMILY(tm), so they shoved as much of it as they can into the game. Also, can't stand the modern lense the game is coming from. Kratos, a glorified OC, running around yelling "We must be better!" is cringe. Thors daughter, the whore from forbidden dawn, bitching at him for drinking and fighting in Valhalla is cringe. Odin being a tiny Jewish man is cringe. Tyr being a generic enlightened hippy is cringe. Overall, not impressed.

Now exploring forest world with Freya, the woman is a walking woman moment:
* "You don't know what's it's like to lose a child" - "Yes I was manipulated to kill my child".
* "You don't know how it's like to want revenge " - "Yes I killed literally my entire country to get revenge, and this is where I am now".
* "We should follow the prophecy" - "Bad fucking idea since prophecies will fuck you over like I've personally experienced".

But the most woman moment is her talking how her brother was burnt fucking alive as a jest, but that doesn't justify him being mean to her at her wedding. Jesus Christ, it's like a parody of strong woman.

Also reduced the difficulty to the second highest since I'm sick of being two shot by fucking everything, the gameplay isn't anywhere near fluid enough or complex for that kind of thing. But the encounter difficulty is insanely variant with easy fights followed by hard ones nearly constantly.

I just want to add I fucking hate the Sony logo in their exclusives, it looks like it tries way too hard to do the Marvel opening but not even the old good one, but the cringy ass one afterwards.

Anyways after Atreus runs to Asgard the game gets better, the Asgard cast are several more times more likable than the mopey bunch Kratos get stuck with, it's funny that Thor's daughter (who looks relatively normal but has dreadful troll doll hair) is nicer to Atreus than Sheboon despite him leading to the death of two of her brothers. Gameplay wise Atreus bits get far more fun and Kratos gets a new weapon (which I'm split on using since I'm already too used to the other two). The game brings up interesting topics only to ignore them completely, like having two versions of events depending on the teller or the whole fate thing.

Speaking of which, I think the best example of how vanilla the game series is is with the Norns. Compare and contrast the way the Fates looked at the original trilogy:

While the Norns are Wiccan feminists with stupid masks.

You really see how lifeless the design became.

What confuses me about GOWR is whether it’s just the characters that don’t know what Kratos has gone through, or the writers have never played the original trilogy and are retarded. It genuinely amazes me how fucking stupid the dialogue is.

They know he’s a God killer and a great warrior but they don’t seem to know how many times he was stabbed in the back and how he lost everything.

The thing that I realised is that humans are ignored in the new series for some bizarre reason, despite being the audience. It's all the gay fantasy races being oppressed despite being the ones who actually know what the fuck is going on. Atreus' body count is in the 5 digits if you think of what his actions have caused. And in general he is basically an eco terrorist who'll happily murder hundreds of intelligent beings to save a fucking squid. But the game will treat Odin as the bad guy for wanting to avert the apocalypse.
The reveal that Ragnarok can be averted by destroying Asgard and killing Odin is also retarded, Ragnarok is basically an inevitable end times for everything, it's like saying that killing the president of the USA will avert the heatdeath of the universe.

Im pretty sure they retconned ragnarok to be the death of asgard and odin, not the entire nord pantheon

The fat one was just one big huge set piece. That was not a particularly engaging one on one fight. Her design was pretty much based around the excuse of needing to take up room in order to progress to the next area. Because if the place lacked a boss fight it would just be a few straight jumps to the next area by the door.

The other Fates were pretty much what the modern Valkyrie/Berserker fights are

Alright I bit the bullet and bought it. Everybody here bitching made me want to dig into it. It's good. Im not really having the same issues with the dialogue everybody else is having. and I like the slow burn focus. I dig how Odin is basically acting like a mob boss and thor's his enforcer.

Biggest issue is probably the UI, I had to turn off some stuff to get a nice clear screen. Also medium difficulty might as well be hard mode with the amount of times I got low health.

Krato's is still a grumpy old gun who barely knows how to express himself properly. So that's keeping me invested. Atresus's whole deal can be chalked up to a combination of frustration at not accomplishing much in the past 3 years of training and him becoming a teenager. So his progression has felt natural to me.

Never having humans to fight was a huge missed opportunity. When you got the chains back in '18, I was hoping you'd be fighting regular humans to demonstrate how monstrously powerful Kratos actually was; instead he just comes off as a pretty buff dude with a sharp weapon.

By comparison there's a point in Arkham Knight where Batman has lost all his inhibitions, and isn't pulling his punches. You can hear bones cracking with each attack, and the enemies are screaming in pain and begging for mercy in a way that no others do so across the entire series. It highlights just how easily Bruce could become unstoppable, and only took a couple of tweaks to combat.

Just beat it.
The number of times the NPCs spoiled a puzzle was a grand total of once so now I'm pretty convinced you're all just slow and retarded.

And clearly this dipshititude is the root of the rest of your endless fucking whining about every fucking game, jesus christ.

I hope you and your dad can work through your issues.

There are humans though. There are cannibals in 18 you kill with the boy getting traumatized and in the beginning of Ragnarok you kill a bunch of em and can rip them in half .

Finished it, the ending feels very rushed and anticlimactic with pretty pathetic final fights that make all the grinding feel pointless. But the most striking thing from the last act is that the game literally does this meme:
1668982102051.png

Mechanically the game feels worse than the previous one, fights are far less interesting or have ways to utilize finishers, or force you into using specific weapons or strategies. It's just endless gauntlets where the enemies are barely varied, and you'll eventually get sick of doing finishers because they take too long. One terrible trick the game constantly use is to give some enemies zero reaction time attacks that will still do full damage (which can be fatal on the higher difficulties), as well as making fights against multiple enemies atrocious as the camera is too zoomed in to see all the threats (and going into the disgustingly over saturated"accessibility settings" would have probably made it too hard to see individual enemies).

Visually the game looks pretty much the same as the previous one only with more skin folds but with horrid bloom and absolutely eye bleeding over designed environments, the character design also sucks balls.

The Asgard characters are barely used and everyone else is several times bitchy than previous game. The worse is Freya that has a moment where Kratos tells her a story and she interrupts him in the middle to ask him how they story is supposed to make her feel good. Fuck this character with a wooden stake and I wouldn't touch the post game since she's locked in as a companion.

The game is way too cinematic, too much "press forward for plot", I fucking miss old cutscenes where you can at least put down the controller. I can't see how you can replay it without going insane.

Now for the plot... It's just bad in a lot of ways, I don't even know what's the worse: The fact that the game builds up into making it's own gay avengers and ripping off the "we brought everyone" scene in the cringiest fashion possible, or the fact that the entire game is about abusive parents, excuse me abusive male parents - Women can't be bad mothers while men should only throw a stern word or two while letting the kid do virtually everything they want without supervision, now listen to your wife and let your child cut off her dick, otherwise you are a gaslighting bastard like Odin.

And Ragnarok and the talk on fate still makes no sense and are essentially plot holes (with Ragnarok being treated in a way you'd think it wasn't the end of the world that only leaves like 10 people along), along with the Mask from the Jim Carrey film which ends up being a mystery box with no payoff. There is no references to Kratos time in Greece, so fuck you if you thought you'd get more info. Really there are a ton of things the game builds up as important and then ignores.

The only redeeming qualities are that Christopher Judge is still awesome, and killing things and exploring is fun, but that's probably true for other better designed games.

You sure about that?

The week it came out, all Youtube seemed to recommend me was "Kratos tells Mimir about Olives" or "Kratos talks about Spartan training" or "Kratos talks about his favorite greek poem" and shit like that while they're riding around in a boat.
