What the fuck is wrong with people who pick up a game and instantly whale? Are their dopamine receptors that fried?
That's literally it though. I have a friend who whales for Granblue that refused to even touch Genshin just because of the rates. Not because of the grind, not because of the resin, not becasue he didn't like the gameplay, just the rates alone turned him away. To understand it, you need to think of gacha addicts as customers to the most retarded casino on the planet. They want the rush of rolling and acquiring waifus that may or may not feed into another addiction, like scoring big damage numbers or OCD-fueled collect-a-thons. The game itself is just a conduit to pull the slot machine lever over and over again.

This varies from game to game and attracts different people depending on what's in the gacha and what the rates are. I would say that people who whale for Genshin are more in it for the cheese and power. The more you whale, the more broken units and weapons you acquire and you can clear content like it's nobody's business. The rates are terrible, but the pity system is very predictable so you can make fairly easy calculations to see how much money it'll cost you to get what you want. However, that's why gacha players who are in it for the gamble hate Genshin, because the odds of you pulling what you want out of nothing is practically non-existent. Since I started playing in December, I've rolled maybe one unit outside of pity range.

I'm more in the camp of I like the game, the character designs are pretty, I'll pay for a few extra resources but that's about it. Anything else feels like a massive waste of money.

I'll spend to get C2 Baal if I need to. I think it's just the idea that most entertainment is temporary and I'd get more out of her than most triple A games or dinners. I can also easily afford C6 but self-restraint.

I think the reason gambling addicts would hate the game is that you can't really roll artifacts constantly, where other games you can roll their equivalents for next to nothing and even a decent one is usable as there's more characters.

I'm still disappointed that Genshin's monetization system is essentially entirely based around rolls of the gacha instead of being more like Azur Lane's monetization where if you play smart you can get every character and piece of equipment for free but have to shell out money for cosmetic character skins. The next patch will determine whether I bother to renew my Welkin Moon, as it's the best deal on offer.

I'll pay for a character I really want and the only time I got a constellation for a 5 star was for childe since his original cooldown sucks.
I really want baal but is c0 baal really that bad?

Wait till community gets to play with her for a little and these guys do the math. You don't need to spend all the primogems day one.

Raiden's kit is good, the main concern I've heard is that Electro is a bad element right now because its reactions are weak, so she might be held back as a result. I'm still getting her because they can always buff Electro later and she's going to be good sub-DPS for Eula.

Fucking exactly that shit actually annoys me. What the fuck is wrong with people who pick up a game and instantly whale? Are their dopamine receptors that fried? Maybe they watch too much twitch where streamers normalize whaling to their viewers?
Genuine question, but does this particular game company have the ability to fix odds for certain players? I know that some gacha games do this so that viewers of a stream/YouTuber would think they have just as good odds as their favorite streamer and start becoming whales themselves.

Having the ability, yes. If it does happen it will be amazing if someone does the math and kickstarts a Dream 2.0 saga (not that it will make much of difference).

On the topic, today I saw a screen from a chinesse site, in which poster got four Yoimiyas and two Xinyans in one 10-pull. Shit like this happens. That's statistical improbability, but possible. There's a small compilation of chinesse shitposts about Yoimiya(https://youtu.be/OraR3eNgaC4) and there's a picture of somebody who pulled four of her in one 10-pull.

After seeing Enviosity pull 2 Kazuhas as well as Mona + Eula in one 10-pull I abso fucking lutely believe in that shit.

didn't gbf have such abysmal rates and general bullshittery it got the japanese government involved to regulate gatcha as gambiling?

apparently cygames seems also be pretty good for a while showering you in shit constantly (but the game's a few years old, so there's that too), but since I don't play it I have no idea what that actually equals in actually getting stuff. there apparently was some discontent about a recent lottery thingie.
but they also found stuff like other videogames (where's re:link you fucks!) and even anime just because, so hard to hate them outright.

not sure but it might be actually illegal, at least in japan. iirc streamers displaying bullshit as form of misrepresentation on stream was on of the reason for the whole gbf drama.

Probably already revealed in the leaks, but Genshin put out their usual pre patch “these are the new weapons” post - look, I have Facebook for exactly 3 groups, judge away - and aside from Aloy’s Predator Bow seeming to be fairly garbage, we got two standouts

Baal being heavily focused on Energy Recharge would have the lance make more sense, and the claymore - look, I love stupid meme weapons.

That would be monkey gate. 6065 dollaridoos blown and no chance to get an ape midget on a cloud. The spark system was installed after this, I believe.

this ?
A short version is Cygames did a giveaway recently, with 5 tiers of rewards. 4 and 5 are almost worthless. 3 permits a grand/seasonal/limited char of choosing. 2 gives like 330 pulls + 1k crystals (1k euro worth?) with 1 giving the same as 3 with inclusion of whale weapons and very exclusive limiteds(?)

Majority got 4 when they want 3 and responded with appropriate salt levels. Cygames apparently relented and gave everyone a tier 3 reward.

the claymore is absolutely dumb but it's dumb to the point i love it, imagine diluc or eula swinging that motherfucker around. we absolutely need more memey weapons like this

Even literal online casinos do that shit (believe it or not, watching other people stream slot machines is a hobby some people have). I refuse to believe any game that has a slot machine -like mechanic couldn't be manipulated by the devs who have access to the source code. It's just a matter of whether they do. And it's a Chinese-made game, so I would assume them to since they have no souls.

I swore there was a thing of Mihoyo sending in game mail with primos to streamers with a line in the mail saying to not disclose it.

Thats kind of defendable since their content creator partner program is a public thing anyone can learn about. But yeah the mail does specifically tell you to not publicly show it and it does come with a bunch of primos (every patch or every month idr which)

As far as I know, Granblue's rates are fairly standard, the controversy that resulted was more due to misleading advertising than shit rates. It's something like, there was a highly desired character named Andira that was put on a banner with two other new characters. Despite the claims that rates were up, the stats showed that the two new characters were showing up more often than Andira and that's when people got suspicious. The conclusion was that while the banner advertising was techinically correct in that all three characters had increased rates, Andira's increase was only slightly better than just pulling any other SSR, which was especially shitty because she was limited run while the other two weren't. (Granblue also didn't have a true pity system at the time). So, a lot of people went in expecting a relatively easy get and then gambler fallacy'd themselves into spending thousands.

It was a dick move on Cygames part and forced them to be more upfront about rates and they reworked their pity so that you could eventually get a character of your choice after a certain number of rolls. I'm not sure about the legal consequences, but at least from a developer-player relationship stand point, the bad press made them buckle under pressure and start handing out more free shit. (Which was probably inevitable given that there's so many fucking characters in that game, it'd be a nightmare to get what you want without it and people would just get discouraged and move on.)

Finally dipping my toes back into the game, I can't keep looking at Kaeya in my avatar without going back to him

It's always been the sort of game I binge hard on for a few weeks and then take a long break from, even if it's mostly just dailies. Once I hit world level 7 the grind felt pointless outside of getting primogems, getting more rolls is fun but I honestly have really solid teams atm even if I want more. I mainly got burned out hard when Mona cucked me out of the Kazuha I was saving for, but eh, that's just gacha being gacha. I've played a little bit of Inazuma on friend's worlds but I still have a few required quests I need to do to unlock the area for myself. I'm so bad at neglecting basic things in the game while powerlevelling characters so hard. Like not even unlocking the food equip gadget and not doing anything with the teapot house yet
