You guys seem to be waaaay above me and I'm also trying to play this game as much a sine-player rpg as I can, ignoring the gacha elements mostly. That said, whenisa kept on calling my male (ostensibly underage) character 'cutie', I was kind of skeeved out.

Haven't played it but it looks interesting.

Unpopular opinion: it looks like a not-boring Breath of the Wild.

It also reminds me of that Trials of Mana remake.

which one, venti? that's not underage, that's just a 800 year old trap. and was this before or after 6 weeks of dude banners with 3 more to go? I'm curious if they'll ever go full bara, but given all the previews so far it's more fujo-bait coming up.

as for the gatcha, just burn your resin every day, save the primogens and fates for shit you want, if you do your daily 30 minute routine of commissions + BP chores it should be enough for a full pity to get a 5 star (and a few 4 star as well) every 1-2 months, more in the beginning when you have all the zones to clear that shower you in stuff. f2p is just a matter of patience really and the only place you'd "need" more chars is abyss (which is meh anyway).
heck they even give you more stuff if you haven't played in a while with special events, so even if you don't play you'll get extra stuff to catch up (a bit at least).

which reminds me still need to put trials on my watchlist, missed the last sale a few months back and surprisingly it's not on a big sale this season.
haven't played BOTW (cba to buy a switch for 2-3 games, made that mistake with the wii already), but one difference is that it's a service game, meaning there's constantly new shit coming. 1.2 just dropped today and from the few hours I played so far it looks pretty good. more stuff to explore with new mechanics, all for free, can't really complain about that especially when the monetization can be ignored and you get constantly free stuff the whole time anyway.

definitely not the best game I ever played, but considering the shit western companies try to sell you these days it's a nice inoffensive timewaster.

I like thinking new games like BoTW, Genshin, and Trials of Mana show not all enjoy this insane "New Normal" cyberpunk dystopia.
Don't worry, sweetie. We'll make sure you eat the bugs in the normative range of your 5G social credit 'BeastMark' tracker.

I reached AC 35 and quit playing, at least until the devs insert some way of getting 5 stars characters rather than roll for all of them on a 1% chance on a huge pool that includes weapons for some bizarre reason.

I reached AC 35 and quit playing, at least until the devs insert some way of getting 5 stars characters rather than roll for all of them on a 1% chance on a huge pool that includes weapons for some bizarre reason.

that's only in the standard banner, the event banner doesn't have weapons in the 5 star pool (that's what the weapon banner is for, which conversely has no chars in the pool). event banner also has a guarantee to get the event char, the standard banner has not (since the pool has both chars and weapons and no pity for anything specific, just "one 4 star every 10th pull, one 5 star every 90th pull").

but why care about 5 stars at all? you certainly don't need them, but the game still gives you enough free shit to get one eventually, you just won't be able to pull the limited event char every banner without opening your wallet. they'll return most likely at some point tho, that's the point where you have to decide how much your patience is worth it (you can easily calculate how much that would cost, it's just obfuscated by the amount of free shit you get over time and other factors. besides that the system spells it out pretty clearly).
this also means as f2p it will take years to max that 5 star, if ever. another reason I mostly ignore 5 stars personally (unless they offer something that helps across the board, like the crafting passive from mona/albedo).

You need to basically save your gems to use them on the special limited time banner featuring a specific 5 star character. Doing anything else will just lead to madness.

ironically only 5 stars are guaranteed, 4 stars are not. you will get the 5 star with enough pulls, but there is no pity for a specific 4 star - just higher chance for some, and to make it worse with weapons in the pool too (from what I've seen I assume you have a 50/50 chance to pull a boosted char, after that it's another roll which of the boosted ones, or a roll from the whole pool)
if you really want a specific 4 star you gotta do enough pulls and save starglitter to get it from the shop. on the other hand, some 4 stars will be given out during events etc, like fischl last time for example.

either way, patience is a virtue.

Just his AR50, going quite strong. I'm pretty happy with the amount of free stuff Mihoyo has given out. Then again, I'm super lucky. I rerolled until I had Diluc and Keqing, then shortly after I got Qiqi before pity. Since then, I've gotten Childe and just yesterday I got Jean. To top it off, I literally just got another Qiqi so her healing is even better now. AR50 is quite a lot of time and summons, but I think I'm pretty well ahead of the curve considering I haven't even purchased the cheap passes or Welkynd.

Feel like Diluc is my jam. Never played a gacha game before, it still feels weird added on to the rpg elements.

lovelies, don’t play this anime shit for faggots.

do you really want to do brain dead dailies every day? left click 10 times, press e, left click 10 times, press q. this gameplay is fire. ?
the game is not even hard. it also doesn’t reward you, you will never get a character you want. what’s the fucking point of spending time on the game you can’t experience fully. read a fucking book, “alchemist” by paulo coelho. good book, never read it, but i will, because i deleted this shitty chinese spyware after saving rolls for 3 months and not getting anyone i want. its fucking boring, this game is not made with you in mind, its made with your money in mind. no soul.

fuck you china

I stopped playing for a few weeks, came back for the Ganyu banner and pulled her and Qiqi back to back on two 10 wish pulls. If I didn't know any better the game is trying to trick me back into playing a bunch. Gonna be fighting that ice flower for a while.

I'm kind of torn on this game. I like the complexity of its underlying systems and the main narrative but I know that I'm playing something without an ending. Which is not normal for me.

The daily quests and daily need to do expeditions are indicative of a game designed to get you to play it consistently, presumably on the hope of getting money when you hit a progression speed bump.

I mean....thats kind of the point? The more you play the more money you'll be willing to drop, meaning you'll pkay more and so on. Hell the best bang for your buck is that pass that gives free gems if you log in every day.

I will say if you do a zen approach to this game and just stop when you've completed your personal goals/ new context and then just stop it works pretty well. You'll just have to accept the characters you got or fall into the bitterness of whaling.

I will say to any that just wants a fun dicking around / explore game don't do the advance world quest at AR35. You wont loose the AR exp by not advancing and it turns the game into a easy adventure mode single player game. There is a lot of fun content to explore and it means you'll never really be grinding.

>rolling on anyone besides the featured char

only 5* on the limited banners are guaranteed (after 180 rolls in the worst case), 4* are not. "rate up" doesn't mean guarantee, it means "higher chance". the only guarantee when it comes to 4* is you'll get one every 10th pull - but not one specific. it's pretty plainly spelled out because it's legally required.

however, the game showers you with enough gems that you can roll often enough to have enough glitter to buy the 4* when it inevitably shows up in the shop, the crafted weapons are good enough so you don't even need to roll on those (you'll get filler eventually anyway).
so, you can get the char you want - it only takes time, patience and knowing when to roll on what when (if you don't open your wallet, which you don't need in the first place).

I'm kind of torn on this game. I like the complexity of its underlying systems and the main narrative but I know that I'm playing something without an ending. Which is not normal for me.

The daily quests and daily need to do expeditions are indicative of a game designed to get you to play it consistently, presumably on the hope of getting money when you hit a progression speed bump.

the story will end at some point and a new one starts, depends if they shut it off before we ever get the 7th zone + possible non-archon wastes etc.
each zone has it's own story till you move on (like "you defeated the evil dragon, yay, now off to liyue"), and most chars "join" you after theirs (which are just background fluff really). if you're bored there's really no reason keep playing, you can always come back for the next big event. heck I didn't finish the liyue map for 2 months because I couldn't be assed to and mainly did my daily challenges + resin.

as for gatcha, there's a reason its prevalent on mobiles. the idea is not to nolife it in a week, then drop it and play something else, you're supposed to play it on your way to/from work, while taking a shit or whatever. same reason the "content" can be done in 15 minutes outside big patches (which then can spread out over weeks if you only play a bit each day).
this means you a) get more invested since you play for a longer timeframe and b) increase the chance you might spend money on it (no one buys shit for a game he doesn't play). all the free shit doesn't cost the company anything, while it keeps you playing (possibly paying) and keeps you talking about it ("free" advertising) asf.
basically, you catch more flied with honey than "$70 game with season pass + tip and planned obsolescence so you pay another $70 with season pass + tip the next year" which in turns funds the service model so they can produce content over years, to keep you in the game.
it's cleverly engineered to work this way, just like a snickers bar is so it's never gonna sate you. still doesn't mean you should eat 10 each day. so when you're smart about it it's easy to navigate the pitfalls (which for some is it's own reward).

>speed bumps
that's only if it's shitty designed, the game's lifespan is almost over (and the company wants to extract the last bit of money out of it) or the devs are retarded. in the end depends on the game, any business model can be abused. like, how competitive are you gonna be if you don't buy the last WoW expansion? you gonna drop the game and play something else or pay since you played that char for years and want to keep going? these days that form of cockblock exists almost everywhere, even full price games. ffs ubisoft wanted you to pay for a $30 patch to fix their shit endgame in division 2 and excused it with a level cap increase just last year.

meanwhile in genshin that only remotely matters when you care about abyss (but even that can be cleared with free chars now) or you really fucked up your progression by spreading it out too much, but even dropping dosh on the game doesn't makes you progress notably faster. you can only buy resin 6 times per day, with diminishing returns, and resin in turn only gives you exp/gold/artifacts. there isn't a timer that requires you to do it NOW (besides abyss for a handful of gems or timed events, but those are usually easy enough too), so you can take your time anyway. the bosses with their weekly lockout can be an issue, but 2 of those can be done in coop, stormterror is easy even with free chars (biggest diffculty is the shit execution and bugs).
like I said, if you're smart about it it's not a big deal, the systems itself aren't that complicated.

the artifact grind is pure cancer tho, wonder if they'll ever change it because that's blatantly designed after "hurr layers of RNG balanced to fuck you over means you'll keep playing forever till you get it" - no it doesn't you chink faggots.

I will say to any that just wants a fun dicking around / explore game don't do the advance world quest at AR35. You wont loose the AR exp by not advancing and it turns the game into a easy adventure mode single player game. There is a lot of fun content to explore and it means you'll never really be grinding.

you want higher world level for the drops, overworld itself is easy (besides some places where you can just come back later, like challenges). the grind isn't really a thing since you only have limited resin anyway, so just conserve that and save 50% of runs. you have a cap of 160, which means 4 domains/flowers/bosses per day. and with the new battlepass stuff the patches added (+ events) you don't even have to do everything anymore to max it like in 1.0.
so just burn resin every day while focusing on the efficient parts depending on your level range (for example not much point farming artifacts before 45, and weapon/talent parts when the next world level will unlock a higher tier).
the only time you'll ever hit a wall is when you don't burn resin, since it's the only way besides quests advancing AR and most stuff has a minimum level - and quests are limited.

i was rolling on Ganyu, and my pity 5 star was fucking Diluc. I don't want him... Then I didn't get enough wishes for 2nd pity.
and I got 5 Noelles, 3 of chinese water boy, and 2 of chinese fire girl... Sorry I don't remember their names, I'm not a racist. I didn't get a single not featured character.

You say "It's normal", but I think that the problem is that "It's normal".
I see people who get featured 5 star on the 9th pull, but I can't entrust my body and mind wholly to the chance and luck. i'm unlucky (:_(

sorry for TMI, i'm not sure if it is, just rate is very low. and there's no other option.

that would mean the next time pity triggers - which can be anywhere from the next 1-90 rolls, most people start hitting pity in 75-80 tho - you'll definitely get the featured 5* on the limited banner. can be this one, can be the next one when you roll on that, whatever. means you got these options:
- keep rolling with what you have and hope to get lucky, slowly working towards the pity, then stop when the banner ends.
- buy more primos goy gweilo
- save primos till the banner runs again at some point (can be in 6 months, can be in a year, who knows. that's where FOMO comes in; otoh you should have plenty of primos at that point)
- save the pity till a banner shows up you want to definitely get instead, reset the pity and hope you have another potential 180 rolls ready when the next 5* you want shows up.

if you don't spend any money the amount of primos you can get is limited and can be calculated pretty easy (till a new area or event starts which usually gives out primos). unless your budget is endless it's all about working around the RNG and knowing when to roll on what, then luck doesn't really become an issue (unless you want a specific 4*, then you either need the patience of a saint or the mercy of a god).

>5 Noelles, 3 of chinese water boy, and 2 of chinese fire girl.
good chars actually, lot of people were assuming since they buffed ganyu up to 5* because retards couldn't stop creaming themselves over her the rate ups would be shit. xianling (chinese fire girl) is a good support or dps if you don't have another pyro (well, now with diluc you can run both for the 25% atk buff), xingqiu is one of the best water supports (not that there's much choice between water chars with two being 5* and one being healer), noelle is great is too, her c6 can hit like a truck while almost impossible to kill and she's easy enough to build that you don't need to farm artifacts for weeks (you should have plenty of DEF trash since the RNG is skewed towards DEF/HP).

all in all you still got good rolls (and there were people spending several thousand bucks on getting diluc, so there's that).
wanna know my last 40 rolls on the standard banner? 5* greatsword from hitting pity that's crap, meaning it will collect dust in my inventory forever, another bennett (c2, so kinda pointless), another sucrose (meh when you got venti), another 4* greatsword that's also pretty meh so it can collect dust together with the 5*. I know standard doesn't mean anything since the pool includes everything, but still. game could've at least given me chongyun or xinyan to complement those weapons, but nope.

it's just what it is, that's why I don't really bother rolling on anything usually. would love to have ganyu because ice/design/va, but spent all my saved primos on another banner and doubt I'll get lucky before it disappears. means I can save again because none of the new chars interest me really. rosaria is prolly gonna become another 5* now that they've seen how hard people whale for waifus, xiao could be fun but hits too soon, who knows if and when the crane will ever become a char (and again danger of getting the 5* treatment), dendro loli looks interesting because dendro, but no release date either (probably inazuma, so 1.6 at best which is still months out).

TLDR: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
