I'm reminder of that other "Genshin-killer" that the shills were hyping up to the moon, before it promptly crashed and burned. How is Tower of Fantasy doing nowdays?
I installed it but never actually got around to playing it, and everyone I know who was playing it has abandoned it and either gone back to Genshin or moved to Star Rail. Based on that, I'd say not too great.

My brother checked tower of fantasy and while the game played better than genshin, the beginning is extremely boring and the lack of polish is absurd. The UI is some of the worst i ever seen. Game was near unplayable on release, then every attempt to hype up people with big patches (2.0, 3.0 etc) was even worse. They tried to rush global to keep up with CN and broke balance super hard. The playstation release was apparently fucked.

There was also been multiple controversis, including shit like actual plagiarism and stealing honkai impact 3 assets. Not helped by the game becoming infested with cheaters in it's already broken af pay to win pvp.

And now i decided to try out Wuthering before sleeping and the game crashed after the first conversation lol (it also runs bad with everything on low and disabled). These companies simply dont have the budget and experience to tackle AAA open world games but they try it anyway. They also forget that genshin is so "fantastic" because it's copying ZELDA who has godtier presentation, but they all copy genshin first and miss the point.

At least WuWa is day 1 so if they can fix it in a few days i'll give it a pass, but these types of games need a good first impression to have good worth of mouth.

Honestly good on WuWa if it turns out to be good - will it live up to being a “Genshin Killer”, fuck no that hype is a curse whenever it comes up, but if it’s fairly decent I’ll call it a win.

I’m 50/50 on if I’ll play it - I have 2 Gacha Games that I play, and I feel like that’s a nice limit. I’m hesitant to add a third to the rotation, or worse the list of dumb shit I spend money on - it’s telling how much more people accept Gacha with how shit most modern vidya has gotten…

So first thoughts on Wuthering Waves:
  • Character Design isn't as good as Genshin's - everyone kind of looks the same to me and most of them look like they work as strippers and moonlight as adventurers
  • Combat is not unlike Genshin's but with dodge and parry mechanics (think more like Nier;Automata), and you can dodge/dash a direction other than current direction of travel. If there are elemental reactions, they've massively toned down compared to Genshin.
  • Mobility and environment traversal is a lot faster and smoother; you see that cliff? You don't need to slowly climb up it, you're going to Neo that shit and run straight up it. Stamina regenerates quickly and a little overhang isn't going to stop you from climbing, plus the grapple equivalent can be used at any time to gain some elevation, particularly in combat.
  • You get your artifact equivalents by stabbing things in the face; substats only come into factor with higher tier ones but primary stat can vary.
  • My system tends to have an adversarial relationship with the Unreal Engine, but performance was either on par or better than Genshin's much to my surprise.
Overall, take Genshin, make it more scifi than fantasy, remove Paimon, run into Amber and soft spoken Lisa immediately and you've got Wuthering Waves.

The story is somehow worse than Genshin's, and the skip button only appears sometimes, to taunt you. I swear, the entire first two hours of the game are a wall of wuxia non-story that never stops rambling about fake sci-fi terms for shit that already has human terms. Standard "make it retarded and hard to understand so it seems deeper than it really is". Other than that, I'm very much vibing with the gameplay, even though movement is a bit jank. Performance has also been mostly fine for me.

Praying to Allah the skip button becomes available for everything.

Got Ayato for his Vergil-like skill, he's pretty cool. Then came Wriothesley, punching is fun. Now I got Arlecchino who powercrept entirety of the pyro roster, plays smoothly and can maintain pyro infusion pretty much permanently in the overworld
It's hard to pick favorites, I personally tend to get bored from playing the same character/team for too long. There's a lot of characters with fun kits/movesets, too many to pick a favorite
Mr. Worldwide, Childe. And JOHN LEE.
Could listen to "John Lee's" voice all day, no homo, naturally.

I didn't mention it, but Alhaitham would be one of my favorites if I had to choose. I was one of the few who recognized Kuki's potential as a reaction support before Dendro was even released, while pretty much everyone else was shitting on her. After I got Alhaitham, it was ez mode with hyperbloom for the majority of content.
Alhaitham/Kuki/Xingqiu/Nahida (formerly Dendro Traveler/Collei)
Never got into burgeon, because all the builds pretty much rely on Thoma, and I find him really unwieldy.

There's no killing Genshin, the very notion is absurd. Even if playerbase keeps gradually dropping by a little, the critical mass of players who's in for the long haul is still huge, not even mentioning the ever-present whales.
I think it's pretty much certain that it will keep going strong until the story concludes. I'm one of the few people who really digs the story and lore. Can't recommend Ashikai's videos (YT) enough in that regard.
This is the only gacha game I play, as an exception. Because it's a damn good game despite its shortcomings (one of which is inherently the gacha).
I'm not really looking to get into another one. I tried Solo Leveling the other week since that came out, and it's an utter shitshow. WW is probably much better quality-wise, but I don't feel enticed.

Would miHoYo really be that generous? It's probably just so that people with lives don't lose as much resin if they log in late
not gonna happen, more likely you'll get more sources for fractals, which is the same outcome really.

The whole device repairing thing in windtrace and hunter defaulted to win when timer runs out is fucking gay and retarded.
nah, like @kokokrunch123 said it forces the rebels to actually "play". hunter defaulted to win rarely happens this time with some semi-competent players.

besides, windtrace has some fundamental issues. for example you have 1 hunter for 3 rebels, so most people when playing the hunter the first time are completely lost. one solution would to have a preference for matchmaking what you wanna do - it wouldn't increase queue times either.
the other is windtrace only happens 1-2 times per year, unless you nolife the event "learning" the map etc. doesn't really happen. otoh it keeps people from going full sweatlord since when you have a competent hunter that previously knew all the good spots it was already much easier to win.

tbh I'm mostly fine the way it is now, you get coins incredibly fast for the people who just want the rewards, the rest can enjoy it slightly tuned.

Most likely - there was some truth to them upping the level cap to 100, and this is to just let us farm more exp books/boss items per day to make up the difference. Please God don't let it be more Boss Items, just let Ascension 6 go to Level 100...
ascension 6 needs 20 boss drops, with 2-3 per bosskill for 40 resin that's between 210-400 resin (so roughly 1-2 days). since a higher world rank would also increase drops, the resin cost should be more or less the same actually - however more drops also means more possible "waste" once more drop than you need.

I installed it but never actually got around to playing it, and everyone I know who was playing it has abandoned it and either gone back to Genshin or moved to Star Rail. Based on that, I'd say not too great.
iirc the steam launch was even later when it was supposed to be "fixed" :story:

I played when global launched, and it was like a flashback to 15 years ago when everybody tried to make a "WoW-killer" without understanding why it was the behemoth it is.
for example the first thing you'll notice (and wuwa triggers me hard for the same reason) is unreal-engine jank, down to the fucking minimal-flatshit UI. genshin is polished af to the point it would make blizzard in it's prime jelly.
however most people can live with jank if the rest is good - and ToF failed in that regard. like wuwa it tries to be "deeper" than necessary, the pacing was all over the fucking place (which I think is a chink trope, first the exposition dump and then get it over with asap).
but even that can be ignored somewhat because the point is doing chores/whale to collect waifus, and that was where ToF fell flat on it's face compared to genshin. for example people complain about "15 minute of daily content" in genshin, but that works for the horde of casuals. in a gatcha you want to be as efficient as possible, if not to save real money - to be that in ToF you were spending 2-3 hours per day to max everything. the other was the greed by forcing you into the powercreep spiral; really, anyone who wants that shit in genshin needs to euthanize itself because combined with a fucking RNG GATCHA it's probably the dumbest thing you can ask for unless you're willing to spend fat stacks to keep up.
basically all the "free" chars in ToF were completely pointless number-wise. you like the char/gameplay? haha fuck you roll the banner. and better do that constantly because the character next patch will be better anyway (and here's the kicker, global was already nerfed. the original chinese version was even more blatant about it with outright OP chars). and that's before you get into the game systems low-key pushing you into spending, imagine domains with a damage-meter or pvp.

they tried to "fix" some of genshin's shortcomings (for example ToF sells itself as a MMO, meaning you have a populated overworld instead of just instanced co-op with friends), but everything else missed the point how and why genshin works by a mile.

this might sound like a defense of genshin, don't get me wrong there's plenty that pisses me off like the RNG artifact grind, but here's the thing: I can completely ignore it, even with some mid-artifacts that somewhat buff the character I can still do 99% of the content, nor am I forced to roll for characters since most are sidegrades (neuv/arleccino notwithstanding). with all the shit people complain about genshin, it still makes mindboggling amounts of money to the point even if you wanted to spend any, the only thing is resin-refresh (pretty pointless) or whaling for higher constellations/5* statsticks (also pointless).

anyway, gonna have to wait and see how wuwa plays out. just like the mmos back then imo playing at launch is the most fun with people figuring shit out and not everyone being jaded/anti about it yet.

You don't need to slowly climb up it, you're going to Neo that shit and run straight up it.
that's hilarious for me, the game goes out of it's way to be a straight up genshin copy almost everywhere, but when it comes to climbing they went "nah dawg we gonna wuxia dat shit"

Itto is amazing and I love every event he's been in, fuck the haters the dude is hilarious and a ray of sunshine. Gameplay wise my favorite characters are all coincidentally in my "Fuck it deathball time" team: Ganyu, Raiden, Navia and Noelle because between those 4 nothing survives.

Yeah, this is probably the main reason why I'm still playing Genshin, I do fuck all artifact farming, just enough to get the correct main stat on the set the character wants and that character is perfectly playable in all overworld content. I don't bother with the Abyss or trying to get the super sweaty medals in events so I don't bother with the grind.

I maxed out the BP earlier this week so now I'm not even bothing to spend resin or do the daily comissions, I just roam around Fontane doing sidequests and hunting for treasure and it's so nice and chill.

Oh yeah, I'm fine with more drops per kill, I'm just hoping that Level 100 isn't locked behind yet another Ascension - just have Ascension 6 go from 80 to 100, from what I've seen people don't tend to actually level past 80 for some reason anyway...

Daily reminder that Sseth had probably one of the better descriptions of Chinese Wuxia, and a lot of Chinese Games likely follow a similar enough structure.
You basically do this for the entire Novel: you eat a pill, sit on your ass for several years and once you're done, you go from rank 8 ping-pong to rank 2 ching-chong, which is still like hundred ranks below the HEAVENLY GOLDEN DRAGON GOD EMPEROR STAR ANCESTOR, but it's okay since there are still about 3000 chapters to go and all big dick characters that could kill you with a fart are currently busy, so you can go and wipe-out the ding-dong clan, which obsessively wants you dead because you courted death by destroying the king-kong clan after its young master picked a fight with you over your jade-like beauty childhood friend.

The Kekqueen is on the list because even though her stats are poor and she's a crit focused Electro character that struggled at higher WLs (before dendro, still haven't gotten around to testing her again) her kit is quite fun to use. Ganyu is also great for the sheer "fuck you in particular" from great distance though Navia is my current favorite as the most Murican character yet.
The story is somehow worse than Genshin's, and the skip button only appears sometimes, to taunt you.
I'm entirely unsure if it's the localization being far more literal or if Genshin's writing team just decided "Hey, you know all of this Wuxia/Xianxia stuff that's almost impossible to tell apart? Let's not do that whenever possible" but the story and its delivery is indeed less engaging than Genshin's. It also doesn't help that the game sometimes just doesn't continue after part of the conversation and the only option is force quitting which has happened twice so far. I spent more time roaming around stabbing things than following the Plot and only advanced it far enough to unlock the activity to burn the resin equivalent, after which I went back to exploring the map, solving puzzles and stabbing things to death.

I honestly dont know but i guess Klee? she has been part of my team since her release (i also find her ways of jihad funny). And i guess i will also talk about my team comp before i got Veni my main team was Xianling,Fish(i call her that),Barb and Klee (during weekly bosses i would spawn barb for Noelle) after i got him i just swapped Xian and so far so good

I only do overworld stuff so terms like "on-field" "support" and other shit the autists over at KQM babble are wasted on a retard like me. The team functions like this:

1) I see an enemy in the distance sitting next to a chest. I snipe them with Ganyu and most of the time that's enough.
2) A tankier one survived and is coming straight for me. Switch to Raiden and her tiddy sword fucking annihilates it.
3) Second wave spawns, switch to Navia and proceed to shotgun everything, very satisfying.
4) Switch to Noelle, pop her shield and spin to win to recover health if there's any stragglers.

Collect chest/solve puzzle, look for the next interesting thing to explore, rinse and repeat.

Switch to Noelle, pop her shield and spin to win to recover health if there's any stragglers.
You could cut out three steps and realize that Noelle is truly all you need.
Along with the 3 rock niggas to throw random shit out to buff her before you pop ult.

I unironically played Noelle mono geo for like 300 hours, tried to play a different team, realized that whatever team I made would never be as cozy as Noelle being invincible, healing everyone, being completely immune to staggers and doing damage at the same time. So I'd end up pulling characters, upgrading them, then not playing them because it wasn't Noelle mono geo. That's actually half of the reason I gave up on the game, but being an apostle of the best girl is a road paved with not putting up with 300 more hours of Paimon's bullshit.
